Father Joseph Illo, pastor of Star of the Sea parish in San Francisco, gave a ten-minute homily on Sunday, November 3.

The month of November is a month of hope. Hope that I can reach eternal life, crossing the waters of death. And that we’re not alone. There’s the communion of saints.

Continue to pray for them; keep ther photographs and use the photos for prayers.

Moses tells of the Jewish people who want a land of their own. Moses said, “If you fear the Lord, you will have a long life in the land that is your own.” Indeed. the desert bloomed. In the New Covenant, the land is Heaven.

If I’m saying the 7 o’clock Mass, I’m thinking of breakfast. If I’m doing the noon Mass, I’m thinking about lunch. The evening Mass, I’m thinking about dinner. Hard to get beyond the world of the flesh.

November is not the month of elections.

But November is the month that calls us beyond that.
