The Holy Innocents. God gave them the grace to be the first martyrs, losing their lives to cover for the infant Jesus.[/caption]
Father Joseph Illo, pastor of Star of the Sea church in San Francisco, gave a 12-minute homily on Sunday, January 5.
The Epiphany or Theophany is manifested by the Magi, the Baptism of Our Lord, and the wedding feast of Cana.
Who were the Magi? Certainly they were not Jews. They were overjoyed at seeing the star. But not Herod. Herod was one of the smallest minds in Scripture. 5 and 1/2 miles away from Herod a baby was born who contained the entire world order. The Wise Men by contrast were willing to receive wisdom from above.
Herod the petty tyrant looks down and inside himself.
On December 28 we celebrate the Holy Innocents.
The Holy Innocents, those children who died under Herod’s command in a vain effort desperate to control history by wiping out all children in Bethlehem two years old and younger.
God gave them the grace to be the first martyrs, losing their lives to cover for the infant Jesus.
The Wise Men worshipped, They knew they did not invent themselves. Wise me worship God. Not a god in ourselves

Good sermon. Here is a link, from St. Patrick’s Seminary, to the news story regarding the recent death of a very great Bay Area Catholic musician, Dr. William Mahrt. Hope you will print this. We have lost a very great Catholic musician, educator, and a fine, devout Catholic man. https://stpsu.edu/in-memoriam-william-p-mahrt/
