Additional observations  Sacred Heart Church is a historic parish; it was founded as St. Mary’s in 1866.  It is located north of Sacramento.  The parish moved to its present location along the Sacramento River in 1905, and was dedicated and renamed Sacred Heart in 1906.  It has a traditional main altar and two wooden side altars, painted so they look like marble.  Other features include a choir balcony, as well as beautiful statues, paintings and stained glass windows.  There is a painted fresco ceiling featuring the Apostles and above the sanctuary is a dove symbolizing the Holy Spirit, with the Latin phrase “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me.”
