Additional observations Founded in 1886, St. Francis de Sales is a historic parish and the oldest in Riverside. It is part of the Diocese of San Bernardino. Highlights include faithful priests and 24-hour Perpetual Adoration in its St. Bernard Chapel.
It is always dissappointing to see another Parish that does not have at least one Mass of St. Pius V!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
oh, KENNETH, give it a rest already with the latin mass!
it will take a LONG TIME for our priests to learn the proper celebration of the TLM which is no easy thing.
each time a parish is featured on this site, somoene complains that they don’t have mass in latin. for heaven’s sake.
Gee, Ken is so unreasonable! I give him a lot of credit for not addressing the issue of foot-dragging by some dioceses in regard to providing the Latin Mass to the faithful as directed some time ago by our Holy Father. Oh, yes, the Vatican is well aware of this sin of obstinacy that is quite evident throughout the American continent at this time and we will all soon hear of it. I was there when the green light was given to replace altars with agape tables and the Blessed Sacrament shunted aside somewhere between the baptismal font and the broom closet. The response then would make one’s head spin! Some parishes even had a head start on that endeavor, in fact. Hootenany, guitar “masses” sprung forth in a jiffy… with no excuses!
May our Dearest Lord have mercy on our collective souls!
Baron, trying to stay on point here but you don’t know those things are going on at this church. max does have a good point that many priests don’t know how to say the TLM. Going from the TLM to guitar mass is easy because anyone can do it. Going from the guitar mass to the TLM is more difficult because you need someone who knows what they’re doing. Keep praying Baron and things will continue to move in the right direction. (And yes, I believe they are if for no other reason than Our Lord promised the gates of hell will not prevail against His Church.)
max,
In case you don’t know it (I seriously doubt it), we do so because that is EXACTLY what was called for in the “Moto Propio”!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
see, KEN, the pope is trying!
CTHOLIC WORLD NEWS AUG. 31:
Pope Benedict XVI will soon set up a new pontifical academy to promote the study of the Latin language, according to the leading Vatican journalist Andrea Tornielli of La Stampa.
The “Pontificia Academia Latinitatis,” to be formally established by a motu proprio that will be released in the near future, would be a move to re-assert the role of Latin as the official language of the universal Church. The new body would replace the work of the Latinitas foundation, a little-known department of the Secretariat of State.
Max, we know your hatred for the Mass of All Times, why are you afraid of something so sublime and soul saving?? You can have your guitars, drums, altar girls, dancing girls, hand holding, kiss of peace, giant puppets, and all the rest, we prefer the Traditional Latin Mass, wtih Gregorian chant, kneeling, silence, organ, incense, genuflecting, loyalty to the Holy Father and Rome!!!
And as for Mr. Fisher, please don’t ever “give it a rest” for asking for the return of The Mass of All Times. Deo Gratias
I think that seeing a beautiful church presented here and complaining about the same thing over and over again comes across as a little ungrateful.
I once went to a talk by a military chaplin who was flown onto a ship that had been out to sea for so long that the Catholics had been breaking off pieces of the last host they had to make it last longer. I have rolled my eyes at some of the things I’ve seen in mass but I am always grateful that there was a priest and I can freely go.
The TLM is very beautiful and reverent and I wish there was more of it. But Our Lord gave us the bare bones of the mass at the last supper and the essence of the mass does not change with the missal. What you really want is to teach people to appreciate the mass and most importantly – be receptive to it’s graces.
Not only the this church look lovely from the outside (I would love to see the inside too and since I live close I’ll try to go check it out) but I must say that any parish that has perpetual adoration has got to be a great place.
I nominate the St. Bernard chapel for the Churches worth driving to column!
I am a parishioner of St. Francis and I love my church. I’ve experienced many miracles since I’ve been at St. Francis de Sales and was told by my mother in law before I attended of many wondrous things that happen at St. Francis de Sales. I love the spirit of community there and have recently joined the enthusiastic group of perpetual adorers. I belonged to other Catholic churches in my lifetime, even those with a Latin mass, but never have I felt the community, the open arms, the warm welcome, the love, and acceptance of a community like I have felt since I’ve been at St. Francis de Sales these past 13 years. It is a place of miracles, devotion, love of our fellow, and most important a true Christian spirit of love for thy neighbor.
In love and devotion, God Bless us all.
