Additional observations  St. Patrick’s is Portland’s oldest Catholic Church.  It was established in 1885 and dedicated in 1891, with work continuing on the structure in the following years.  It initially served Irish immigrants who worked in the timber industry and on the docks; it also served Eastern European immigrants.  It had a school, but attendance declined as the area became more industrialized.  The school closed in 1957.  It is a traditional Catholic church, located a stone’s throw from the 30 freeway and several blocks from the Willamette River.  Click here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnI77s6xyRc) for a quick introduction to the parish (although the pastor has changed since this video was made).
