Names of priests Fr. John Bonavitacola, pastor.  Fr. Bonavitacola is from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, inspired to pursue the priesthood after Pope St. John Paul II’s visit to Philadelphia in 1979.  He is a long-time pastor in Tempe before coming to Our Lady of Lourdes.  He is orthodox and a good homilist.  He made the news in 2020 when he urged parishioners to vote against an Arizona initiative to legalize marijuana in the state for recreational use (it passed).  His interest in the issue was perhaps sparked by his being a substance abuse counselor who has given many related retreats.  He is the COURAGE chaplain for people with same-sex attractions.  He sells his own pasta sauce, with proceeds benefiting FullCircle, a charity that helps families struggling with a wide range of issues.

Special parish groups and activities Catholic Daughters of America, Miraculous Medal Novena, Knights of Columbus, Our Lady’s Guild, Divine Mercy Devotional, St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Music Choir, cantors & instrumentalists, organ.  The parish is known for its organ, which was installed in 2005, and hosts an annual concert series to showcase it.

Fellow parishioners Sun City West is a retirement community near Phoenix.
Parking There is a large lot by the church.

Additional observations  Our Lady of Lourdes is a parish of the Archdiocese of Phoenix.  It began with 30 families in 1977, and today is home to over 2,700 families.  The church was completed in 1988.  The parish includes a mission in Peoria which has a 1 p.m. Mass.
