Names of priests Fr. Nicholas Wichert, pastor. Father is a “re-vert” to the Catholic faith, and ordained to the priesthood in 2010. This summer, St. Brendan’s welcomed the young priest, who’s already been making positive changes to the community. One of his first decisions, for example, was to end the “theater-in-the-round” style of the church and place the altar back into the sanctuary. As he explained in a letter to the parish, “With this configuration, the priest, who celebrates the Mass in Persona Christi, in the person of Christ, will be at the head of the Liturgical Celebration of the Mass.” He further noted, “As we place the altar back in the sanctuary at the head of the community again, it also takes away from us being turned in on ourselves (a big problem in our society at large today) and reorients us toward the Lord.” (See the parish website for the full explanation.)
