Additional observations Our Lady of Joy is a parish of the Diocese of Phoenix. It began as a mission church in the Diocese of Tucson, and was established as a parish in 1972 (Phoenix became its own diocese in 1969.) The original church was built in 1987, and expanded and renovated, most recently in 2017. There is an Our Lady of Joy Books & Gifts store, open daily (although staffed by volunteers, so it is not always open), and a parish library of religious books and movies.

“Our Lady of Joy”! Such a beautiful title!
I needed to find out the story behind Our Lady of Joy. The name comes from a miraculous occurrence in 1134. Muslims in Egypt held prisoner three Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem. A statue of Our Lady, which they named Our Lady of Joy, or Notre Dame de Liesse, appeared in their cell. Our Lady of Joy pray for us.
Thanks for relating that wonderful story. Yesterday, July 18, Abp. Cordileone offered a lovely Tridentine Latin Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Indianapolis. Over 1500 Catholics attended this holy Mass, overflowing the church. Wonderful.
Diocese of Phoenix, huh? Today I watched a scandalous livestream on YouTube of a funeral Mass celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Scottsdale. The male decedent’s “husband” was allowed to give a eulogy in which he talked about their gay marriage, their gay romantic life, and their hope to have babies and a gay family. Most surprising of all? Retired Bishop Olmsted was present for the whole funeral. I’m not making it up. It was celebrated today, Friday, July 19.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help pray for us.
“Retired Bishop Olmsted was present for the whole funeral.” In learning it is often said that more is caught than taught. Anyone aware of Bishop Olmsted’s presence knows how seriously the Church takes its teaching on marriage.
Has anyone concerned asked Bishop Olmsted about his presence there?
Having read some of his writings, I’m pretty sure he doesn’t condone sex outside of marriage.
Would you expect him to get up and leave in the middle of Mass?
Curious: What I’d like to know is why would the Church post this Funeral Mass online? I’m curious about that.
If they had any sense, they would not have allowed that funeral regardless of the decision to livestream. Livestreaming it was just the icing on the cake of foolishness.
Are you sure that was Bp. Olmsted? Oh, how discouraging. I found the YouTube funeral Mass of this morning, at OLPH Catholic church in Scottsdale AZ, that I think you mentioned– very gay, very shocking. Even photos of the young man, Michael, kissing his “husband,” Nic, in a church, at their “wedding.” I did not like those photos– taken in a church. Were the two boys “married” at this church? The young fellow who was the deceased’s so-called “husband” was acknowkedged as such at this funeral Mass, along with wedding photos, etc. in a Catholic church (?) It looked like the two boys were somehow “married” at this church, from all the photos — and there were tons of them, all about the young man’s life, a very gay life, with lots of friends and family. Evidently his whole family accepted their gay “marriage.” Looks like the young man was from a wealthy family. He attended a prep school in Phoenix and became a successful actor in Hollywood, etc. He died suddenly of a heart attack, or heart problem, or something, in California. I was not in the mood to watch the probable sacrilegious funeral Mass and burial in the Catholic cemetery in Phoenix. What I wanted to know, is— has the Catholic Church started to allow some clerics to disobey canon law and teachings on morality and marriage– or allow clerics to bend the rules just for the rich? Just what on earth are they doing? Bp. Olmsted seemed like the best bishop a Catholic Diocese could have, when he was there– very orthodox and faithful, a good teacher of the Faith and Morals to the Catholic faithful, a really good shepherd. I know the new bishop, Bp. John Dolan, from San Diego– was reported to be “gay friendly.” But he cannot really break Church laws, or the Apostolic Nuncio, Cdl. Pierre, will run after him, right? Oh, Bishop Olmsted– what’s going on with you? Hope to find out. How discouraging.
In my comment of July 19 at 9:50pm, I capitalized “Canon Law.” Canon Law should always be capitalized. It is very important. Better for the editors to just correct spelling errors.
Well, I don’t think there is any sure way to find out anything regarding Bishop Olmsted– unless someone asks him about what he thinks about Catholic teaching on gay ‘marriage,” etc. The deceased young gay man in the YouTube Catholic funeral attended a wealthy Jesuit prep school for boys, Brophy Prep, in Phoenix. Maybe the Jesuits have a bad influence on Catholic boys from well-to-do families, at their prep school, in the Phoenix metro area. What can I say– but pray that Bp. Olmsted is in his right mind, bless him.
I too found the video. Here’s a link to the super scandalous gay funeral. And Bishop Olmsted was indeed there.

That link starts at the beginning of the first eulogy, by the dead man’s “husband”.
The slide show that was shown to guests in the church before the funeral was appallingly gay, celebrating the man’s gay marriage and life.
The Church has fallen.
I wouldn’t set foot in a church that did what happened there. Would you go to a restaurant that had served spoiled or contaminated food? Why go for spoiled or contaminated sacraments? They should have a giant letter D sign from the sacramental health department posted on the front window of the church.
Once Pope Francis issues a ban on Latin Masses, heads will roll if a Bishop is present at a Latin Mass. All the other stuff will be allowed to take place in the Church.
Fr. Mike Schmitz gave an excellent speech at the National Eucharistic Congress. For one thing, he said that in order to have a true Eucharistic Revival, you need repentance of sin, and to not be indifferent to the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. A very good speech.
A Satanic, 18 ft. tall, grotesque, golden statue of an ugly, evil, diabolic, levitating woman, titled “Witness,” created in celebration of the sin and crime of Abortion, located on the Univ. of Houston campus, was recently beheaded, amidst the frenzy of students scrambling to deal with Hurricane Beryl. No one knows who beheaded the statue, but many people are relieved about this incident– this ugly, evil, grotesque, Satanic statue was detested. Hope university officials remove this evil statue, which was created in New York. And hope the State of Texas will pass laws to ban such evil artworks in their state, celebrating Evil. I have enjoyed seeing photos sent, online, of this ugly, Satanic, now-beheaded golden statue.
Here is a link to a photo and news story about the evil, decapitated Abortion statue:

Evil abortion statue decapitated: I saw a photo of this statue and it’s horrible. Coincidentally it’s 18 feet tall, that’s three 6’s.
