Father Vincent Woo from St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park gave an eight-minute homily at Star of the Sea parish on Sunday, February 8, while the pastor, Father Joseph Illo, is out of town. Father Woo’s biographical sketch here.

On 86 days of the liturgical year, the Roman Missal mentions a stational church assigned to a specific liturgical day…. Traditionally the Pope and the faithful would process together to the stational church and celebrate Mass at that church. The stational church for today is St. Paul Outside the Walls. For this reason the Collect refers to St. Paul… and the Epistle is that of St. Paul.

St. Paul in this Epistle: “Gladly O Lord do I glory in my infirmities so the power of Christ may dwell in me.”

The devil will tempt us. through our weakness.

You might recall that when I was here two weeks ago I said we must ask for conversion when we go to Confession, not just mechanically reciting our sins.

God sometimes allows a weakness to stay with us even for decades, to keep us humble.

We must continue to go to Confession and fight against sin.
