Dear Pro-life friends,
We had another turn-around at the downtown Planned Parenthood this past week (the first week of 40 Days For Life spring campaign), which follows another one from the previous week.
The two sidewalk counselors were praying on the sidewalk in front of the downtown Planned Parenthood when a young couple approached from up the hill. She was clearly pregnant, with her boyfriend beside her. One of the counselors asked if she could talk to them for a few moments to share some information. They stopped and agreed. The other counselor continued to pray silently on the curb. During the course of their conversation, the woman shared she was 20 weeks along, and this was their second child. Their young baby boy was staying with her mom. They are living in a very small house a relative is loaning to them. They can’t afford to move, and it’s too crowded for a second child. They thought their only option was to abort their child; but but the counselor could see in their eyes they didn’t really want to.
The other counselor called the COLF’s Crisis Pregnancy hotline, and once he had someone on the line to help this couple, he handed the phone to the young girl. She spoke with them for quite a while, and it sounded like she was verbally filling out a questionnaire to set up an appointment. Meanwhile, the first counselor spoke with the boyfriend and went over a Birthline brochure explaining all of the help available for them through that pregnancy resource center.
She talked with him about his little baby boy, and the dad was very excited about the services offered by Birthline. The girl finished up her call with COLFS and said they had an appointment set up for them. Then she turned to go into PP. The counselor I asked her why she was going in there, and she said she just wanted to get the ultrasound to see how big the baby was. She told the woman to be careful, as they wouldn’t show her the ultrasound afterwards unless she specifically demands to see it. She said she’d come in when she was pregnant with her first baby, and she got them to show her the ultrasound. But since she was not interested in an abortion then, they just referred her to her primary care physician. They told her they would be praying for them, and they walked in.
Approximately 5 minutes later they came right out, got into their car and drove off. This was probably not enough time to have an ultrasound, so hopefully they decided to obtain the ultrasound at COLFS instead. Please pray for this young family to have the courage and strength to choose life for their unborn child.
