Early in the morning, a young woman with a dark complexion, clearly pregnant, got out of a car that had just parked near the entrance to Planned Parenthood. The man remained in the driver’s seat, intending to wait for her. The sidewalk counselor approached her, asking if she was going into Planned Parenthood, and if she could share some information with her. She replied, “Spanish? Spanish.”

The counselor reached for a Spanish brochure and tried to talk to her with limited Spanish, and showed her the pregnancy resource centers on the brochure. The woman shared that she had two other babies. It was implied she felt she couldn’t support another baby, that’s why she was going to Planned Parenthood. However, with the the language barrier, it was difficult to know for sure.

Another counselor who was there tried to help guide her to where Culture of life Family Services uses the CAPS facility on 5th Ave., alerting her they didn’t open up until 9 am. Then the young man got out of the car she’d been in and came over. He knew a little more English, and we gathered she was his wife, and they were probably poor.

He was very receptive to the idea of going to COLFS/CAPS, and when the counselor gave them a Birthline brochure, the other counselor was able to use a little more Spanish to explain the services at Birthline, stressing how they would help families just like them. The man responded, “They help poor people like us!”. They agreed to go to COLFS at 9 am, and after that, to drive up to Birthline (which opens at 10 am).

Please pray for this family that they found their way to COLFS/CAPS and received loving guidance and help, and at Birthline, for the help and counseling they need.
