Some of the early discussions on podcasts by Thomas Aquinas College tutors included Dostoyevsky, Jane Austen, Copernicus, Marx, Plato, Ptolemy, Shakespeare.
But a recent look at the college’s website show newer podcasts on Just War theory, Lincoln-Douglas debates, T.S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land,” Hobbes’ Leviathan, AI and leisure, the Devil according to Dante and Milton.
Here is an excerpt from a newer podcast called Beyond Opinions:
“The questions, is there a God, is there a soul, is the soul immortal – the students after working their way through these texts, especially the philosophical ones, have some very well-grounded views as to what is the truth on those questions.
“There’s a temptation to think that the arguments that happen in philosophy never settle anything. Even if the arguments are thought of as superficially rigorous, they really are rigorous, they do get you places. Philosophy isn’t just sort of a game, which it sort of tends to be treated as, especially by non-philosophers.”
