California officials are giving Planned Parenthood $140 million to keep 109 clinics open and offset the financial strain from cuts imposed by Republicans in Washington, Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom announced.
Newsom said the move affirms the state’s continued commitment to abortion access for women in the Golden State amid efforts by President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans to shut down Planned Parenthood.
“California is a reproductive freedom state, and this latest investment continues to show our belief in protecting access to essential health care in times of distress,” Newsom said in a statement on Thursday. “Trump’s efforts to defund Planned Parenthood put all our communities at risk as people seek basic health care from these community providers.”
State lawmakers will also address the issue when the legislature reconvenes in January.
Planned Parenthood had announced it would eliminate primary care at clinics in Orange and San Bernardino counties starting in December. Five other clinics in the Bay Area, Santa Cruz, and Central Valley also shuttered in recent months over federal efforts to defund the organization….
Planned Parenthood needs about $27 million a month to operate all its local facilities, Jodi Hicks, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, told CalMatters.
“The Planned Parenthood affiliates in California are grateful to Governor Newsom and our allies in the Legislature for taking this necessary step to keep Planned Parenthood health centers open and able to provide critical services as they weather the impacts of the federal defund,” Hicks said in a statement.
California is the fourth state to allocate public funds to support Planned Parenthood, joining Washington, Colorado and New Mexico. Lawmakers in Oregon and New York are also considering giving public money to the organization….
Planned Parenthood Mar Monte — which operates 30 health centers along the California coast, Central Valley and Nevada — shuttered five health centers in July after Trump blocked Planned Parenthood’s funding….

Nothing on this earth is “free.” Sexuality belongs only in lifelong Marriage between one man and one woman. Your conjugal life starts on your Wedding Night. Wedding Vows include caring for the children that God may bless a married couple with. Every child made by God, is a big responsibility– an adorable little one to love and care for, and protect from all harm. Californians need a full return to marriage and children, and responsibility.
CDC statistics in the United States state that 87% of girls and women who get abortions are unmarried. California– and oir country– needs a full return to responsibility and Marriage and Family. Marriage and God’s precious Children need to be cherished above all else. And women and girls must be respected– and loved and cherished, above all else— by the young men who date and marry them.

Many beta bishops are on their bullhorns complaining about wanting tax-payer funds for climate change studies, and at the same time demanding funding for illegal immigrants (and being simpatico to LGBTQ-ists). I’d like to see the same bishops grow some pelotas and show some moral leadership re bad Catholics, like the alpha male clerics of yore.

Give him a break. Look at the utopia Gav the Great has turned California into. Let’s impose Cali values on the rest of the nation. People in flyover country aren’t smart enough to do that themselves.

It’s an absolute scandal how the Catholic Bishops of California never speak out and never have called out Gavin Newsom for his pro-abortion policies. He claims to be a Catholic and yet he acts against the Catholic faith on a daily basis
The bishops embrace him when it comes to illegal immigration but you even have to question the bishop’s commitment to life in the womb. It seems they’re more concerned about the federal dollars and the state dollars flowing through Catholic Charities than they are protecting life in the womb
This is so tragic. One thing I thought of, though, is that liberals are also exterminating their own “liberal species.” They commit sins and crimes, shack-up, do not want marriage and children (or, they are seeking “feminist goals of success, money, and prestige” first, before narriage and children)– and they have abortions. Some end up maybe having just one child. And there are tons of illegitimate children! Meanwhile– lots of conservative, devout pro life Catholics (and other Christians) are successfully marrying, and raising great, big, traditional families! Maybe someday– there will be very few liberals– and no abortions. No more “Newsom-style California. “
