Erika Kirk just publicly forgave her husband’s killer. She said her husband wanted to save the lost boys of Western Civilization like him.
She ended this way: “Let that miracle that was Charlie’s life be your turning point as well: Choose prayer. Choose courage. Choose beauty. Choose adventure. Choose family. Choose a life of faith. And most importantly choose Christ.”
Amen.
May Our Lady comfort her. May the Lord bless her. May Charlie Kirk rest in the Peace of the Lord.
And on the Cardinal Cupich scndal

I stand in solidarity with Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield, Illinois, in urging Cardinal Cupich to reconsider giving Senator Durbin a Lifetime Achievement Award through the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity given his long record of supporting legal abortion.
Bishop Paprocki, who is Senator Dick Durbin’s bishop, has expressed shock that the Archdiocese plans to honor Senator Durbin who, although a self-professed Catholic, supports access to abortion so radically that he has even opposed legislation to protect babies born after an attempted abortion. Bishop Paprocki is correct that both clarity and unity are at risk. I hope this will be a clarion call to all members of the Body of Christ to speak out to make clear the grave evil that is the taking of innocent human life.

+Paprocki: “Honoring a public figure who has actively worked to expand and entrench the right to end innocent human life in the womb undermines the very concept of human dignity and solidarity that the award purports to uphold.”

Monterey’s bishop phased out the TLM entirely like he’s supposed to. When will Cordileone do the same?
Those who wish to ignorantly “cancel” 2,025+ years of holy Catholic and Christian history and sacred traditions — and 4,000+ years of Biblical, Salvation history– for a bunch of secularized, modernist, mid- 20th century, meaningless 1960s “junk,” need a good, solid, true Catholic education– from Archbishop Cordileone.
If you really want “the latest trend” in the Catholic Church—- go join a California Catholic church that offers the Mayan Mass– and be sure to buy yourself a Roman Missal with the Mayan Mass in it– so you can follow it. Better get yourself a Pachamama idol doll, just like Pope Francis’ Pachamama idols. Way to go! Latest, most “modern” Mass!
I recommend reading this article about the early origins of the Mass of Paul VI:
https://www.patheos.com/blogs/davearmstrong/2025/09/new-mass-ten-proofs-of-its-early-origins.html
The TLM had lots of historical accretions that had to be pruned away to get to a more pure, simpler, more noble Mass.
No. Get a good, authentic Catholic education. You will learn of your cheap deception.
None of that stuff is “new” and “modern.” The 16th century Protestants believed the same thing– strip the Catholic Church of all “Catholic” elements and centuries of excellent and holy religious development, led by many great Saints, who established Christendom. And no “mystical,” “fake” “Catholic Mass” nor “Catholic Sacraments,” either– a “fake” “Pagan Roman Church” built on centuries of a misunderstanding of the Last Supper and the Bible. And theologians like St. Thomas Aquinas hoodwinked and misled. Dump it all. Ecumenism and secularism and nothing to fight over. Cheap, watered-down, materialistic advancement-oriented Social Gospel– with or without Christ, doesn’t matter– will unite the whole world.
My post of Sept. 23 at 4:58pm should have been titled, “Reply to Read and learn.” My post was edited. I also noted that the New Mass does not emphasize the “Sacrifice” part of he Holy Mass– it emphasizes laymen’s community involvement in the Mass, with the priest facing the people– not God. The priest offers the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass to God for the people.
I don’t know why every story on this website seems to be directed to the TLM (pro and con). That said…
Although I am a Greek Catholic, I often attend Mass. I hear of “sacrifice” in the Ordinary Form of the Mass.
In the Roman Catholic Mass, the priest’s invitation, “Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father” signifies the joining of the priest’s sacramental offering with the personal sacrifices of the congregation, uniting all in the singular sacrifice of Christ on the Cross. The priest, in persona Christi, offers Christ’s perfect sacrifice on behalf of the people, while I’ve heard that “your sacrifice” represents the faithful’s offering of their own lives, sufferings, joys, and intentions to God in union with Christ.
Eucharistic Prayer III: “May this Sacrifice of our reconciliation, we pray, O Lord, advance the peace and salvation of all the world.”
From Eucharistic Prayer I, the Roman Canon: “For them, we offer you this sacrifice of praise or they offer it for themselves and all who are dear to them: for the redemption of their souls, in hope of …”
Also, “oblation” is an offering to God. Isn’t that connected to sacrifice?
Please correct me, if I’m wrong, but sacrifice seems to be clearly part of the Roman Missal (and Mass).
Upon a closer look, you will note that the Novus Ordo Mass of 1969 is more “horizontal,” with more of a focus on the Christian community, with the priest facing the people, and the Mass is presented as closer to a “community meal” than Christ’s Sacrifice on the Cross to redeem mankind. These concepts originated with the Protestants of 500+ years ago. The original text of the 1500+ years-old Tridentine Latin Mass was greatly simplified, and stripped of many original Catholic elements, the Mass as “Sacrifice” was watered-down — presenting it more as a “community celebration,” than as a “sacrifice.” The Offertiry of the 1969 Novus Ordo Missae was completely new– but with the same intention. But both forms of the Mass –ordinary and extraordinary forms– are valid.
To the person who replied to me,
I’m almost certain the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM), issued in 1969, recommended that the main altar be built away from a wall so the priest could celebrate facing the people. It was an option not a requirement. I’ve attended numerous ad orientem (Ordinary Form) Masses with Archbishop Cordileone. Other priests and bishops preside that way as well, as do our Eastern Catholic Churches.
The Church Fathers saw Mass as both sacrifice and a spiritual meal. As with many things Catholic, it’s not either/or, it’s both/and.
As we Eastern Christians pray before Holy Communion: “Accept me today as a partaker of your mystical supper, O Son of God,
For I will not reveal your mystery to your enemies, Nor will I give you a kiss as did Judas, But like the thief I profess to you:
Remember me, O Lord, when you come in your kingdom.
Remember me, O Master, when you come in your kingdom.
Remember me, O Holy One, when you come in your kingdom. …”
So, both sacrifice and meal are realities from Christ and the Apostles to today, regardless of rite or form (or use).
Admittedly, pews were a Protestant innovation that made its way into the Catholic Church, as was the Advent wreath/candles. Yet, most Roman Catholics seem to accept both of those things.
Is there a way to reduce the heat around discussions of the Sacred Liturgy?
Erica Kirk is to be admired and praised for forgiving her husband’s suspected murderer. Thanks to Archbishop Cordileone for recognizing that fact. The Catholic World Report has an article about the Cardinal Cupich scandal wanting to honor Senator Dick Durbin. https://www.catholicworldreport.com/2025/09/20/the-scandal-case-of-cardinal-cupich-and-senator-durbin/
May God bless Archbishop Cordileone, Bishop Paprocki and the Kirks. May more follow their examples of courageously speaking the truth, with love and humility. It is truth that sets people free (John 8:32) and allows humans to flourish.
I agree with Archbishop Cordileone and Bishop Paprocki. Giving this award to a pro-abort Catholic politiciana also breaks Church rules. The Vatican really needs to stand firm on this matter. Too bad Cardinal Cupich is still serving in this position, as when he turned age 75 last year, on his birthday, March 20, 2024– he submitted his required resignation letter to Pope Francis. But the late Pope never accepted it, so he had to stay on awhile, until the Pope changed his mind, and found a successor.
Pro-abort Sen. Dick Durbin’s Pastor banned him in 2004 from reception of Holy Communion, due to his unrepentant pro abortion stance– and Bishop Paprocki has always upheld that stance, banning Sen Durbin from reception of Holy Communion in the entire Diocese of Springfield, Illinois. Actually, there is no Canon Law prohibiting the scandalous award– but to do such a terrible thing, has always been known to be totally morally wrong, and scandalous. Pope St. John Paul II and Pope Francis both reaffirmed that such actions are evil, hypocritical and scandalous.
Erika Kirk deserves a lot of praise for her powerful and wonderful talk at the Charlie Kirk memorial saying, she forgives her husband’s suspected killer. God bless Bishop Paprocki for doing the right thing and being a true shepherd of the flock for speaking out against this scandalous award being given to Senator Dick Durban. Cardinal Cupich should be ashamed of himself for honoring a man who supports access to abortion and same sex marriage. “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul.” Hopefully Cupich is asked to retire very soon.
This article highlights a crucial debate within the Catholic Church about conscience and pro-life stances. I deeply admire the courage of Bishops Paprocki and Cordileone in standing firm against honoring Sen. Durbin, and hope their voices inspire more clarity in the Church.
Kudos to Cardinal Cupich! He proves that abortion-promoting extremists like Gavin Newsom, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden and others really are the best Catholics. Admit it, you hateful right-wingers. Only a few outliers like Cordileone, Paprocki, Dolan, Cozzens, Burbidge, Barron and Daly haven’t surrendered yet. Most of the bishops don’t really oppose abortion or they’d say something too. Unless they’re motivated more by fear than faith. Don’t end up on the wrong side of history, like Charlie Kirk.
Let’s take our California values nationwide in a couple years.
And, now Bishop James Conley of Lincoln, Nebraska is criticizing the great Cardinal Cupich for awarding Durbin. Where is Nebraska anyway?
Is there a church worth driving to there?
Maybe Bishop Cantu will stand strong against the prolifers and keep the abortion-promoter as president of the only diocesan high school in San Jose. Some bishops have forgotten that the USCCB is supposed to be a prayerful looking DNC.
Here, here! Besides what you say, Cathloics must support the freedom to marry anyone you love. Anything the Democrats want is Catholic doctrine now. Let’s Californize the whole country and the church. Bishops, onward…
The bad thing about being a bishop is that you don’t get to choose where you live. I would hate to have to live in San Francisco and to know that for the rest of my life I have to live in that awful city, surrounded by liberals and dissenting Catholics and Catholics who have left the church and no longer go to Mass and fake Catholic schools with teachers teaching dissent from Catholic faith. Much better to be a bishop in a strong, rural diocese in the heartland of America than San Francisco. The restaurants aren’t even good anymore in San Francisco, and many have closed because the liberal economy has made the city unlivable.
We’d be happy to have the archbishop here in Texas with our thriving parishes. Y’all are welcome, provided you don’t try to California our Texas.
I hear you. But I just can’t hit “like”, lest someone think I approve your words and not your intention. Well done.
Take a good look at a dedicated, devout, authentically-Catholic bishop in the USA Heartland of East Texas– forced out of his job… with no explanation! Cheap, “Californiacated;” dishonest, modern “Aggiornamento-dominated” Catholic Church! Honesty, integrity, and Christ– are now, presumably, “outdated,” and “out-of-fashion!”
Poor Bishop Strickland– the former Bishop of the Diocese of Tyler, Texas. He also rattled the Vatican and USCCB when he truthfully stated that there should be a serious investigation into the wrongdoings of former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.
I have wondered, if Pope Francis might have done better, without the swarms of secular journalists constantly reporting on every little thing, catching him off-guard at times, saying “goofball” things. He was not meant to be a shrewd politician, ready with a twisted tongue for the voters, skilled at political debates. Perhaps if he had had a life of deeper holiness, prayer, quiet and reflection– further away from all those worldly journalists– things might have gone more smoothly. What will Pope Leo’s first plane ride full of journalists reveal, on his first trip?
And, now, two more bishops have joined the Archbishop and Bishop Conley in supporting Bishop’s Paprocki’s call to not award abortion-extremist Richard Durbin. Bishop James Wall (Gallup, NM) and Bishop David Ricken (Green Bay, WI) yesterday joined a small, but growing, number of bishops speaking out. Pray for Cardinal Cupich. May he have a change of heart.
Two more bishops are now on record publicly opposing Cardinal Blase Cupich’s decision to honor Sen. Dick Durbin with a lifetime achievement award: Bishop Carl Kemme of Wichita, Kansas, and Bishop Michael Olson of Fort Worth, Texas, added their objections yesterday.
Pray that Cardinal Cupich and Senator Durbin will have their hearts changed.
I hope Bishop Reed joins in as I like saying the Rosary with him online at times.
My very last post about Bishop Reed was meant to be in reply to Deacon Anderson.
It seems scandalous that an abortion-promoter could be banned from receiving Holy Communion in his original home diocese (Springfield), yet receive a Lifetime Achievement Award in another (Chicago, where he has a second home). The teachings of Christ and His Church do not vary by ZIP code. Cardinal Cupich is now claiming jurisdiction over Senator Durbin. The senator also has a third home in Washington DC. Cardinal McElroy has not stated his opinion on the controversy. Some dissenting Catholics go “priest shopping.” I guess prominent ones go “bishop shopping.”
“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, ‘I follow Paul’; another, ‘I follow Apollos’; another, ‘I follow Cephas/Peter’; still another, ‘I follow Christ.’ Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?”
Saint Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians 1:10-13
Your post keeps me going in my faith. You are much needed.
