A young lady (early 30s), walked around from the back parking area looking very distraught and holding back tears. The sidewalk counselors offered handouts so she stopped to listen, and that started a long conversation with her about her dire situation.
The woman said she had three kids, and was pregnant because she was raped by a relative and couldn’t go on. She was stressed to the max, and was so very exhausted. She started to cry so the counselors did their best to console and sympathize with her, but explained this wasn’t going to solve any problems but only make things worse. There was help out there even for situations like this. The counselor asked if she was a Christian and she said yes, so he told her “Jesus wouldn’t want you here, ….we can get you the help you need, just give us a little time to make calls and wait with us.”
They tried to get her to not go into PP as they knew what they would want her to do if they got into her head. However, she said she had to go to the restroom so they asked her (not knowing if she’d come out again), “Please call these numbers on the pamphlet and talk with them before you do anything in there.” She went in and expecting it wouldn’t be good, the counselors were saying some prayers as they continued to interact with others coming and going.
Surprisingly, within 30 minutes she came back out, still upset and teary. She told the counselors she had an appointment with Birthline for Monday morning. They started to chat with her once more, wanting her to go to one of the pregnancy resource centers ASAP (before Monday) due to her unstable emotional condition. One of the counselors suggested they walk up to the restaurant at the top of the hill as she hadn’t had any breakfast. They both departed up the hill as the other counselor scrambled to contact Camille at True Choice Medical Clinic out on Miramar Rd. A short time later he got in touch with Camille and briefed her on the situation….He also passed Camille’s number to the other counselor, who passed it to the woman.
They both came back about an hour after they left, and the counselor who took her to breakfast had to leave, so he prayed with the woman and left.
The counselor who remained chatted a bit more with the woman before she walked to the back parking lot to leave for True Choice. The counselor waited out front for what turned out to be another hour or so just to confirm if she was on her way, but with other people coming and going did not notice when she left. However, a prayer request from True Choice Medical Clinic later that day confirms that the woman indeed made it there, and made a second appointment to return the following week.
A short time later, a young girl in her late teens or early 20’s came out the front door and was headed to the back parking area. The counselor had seen her with two others go in earlier (which turned out to be a mom and her daughter) but because the counselor was chatting with someone else at the time, didn’t have a chance to offer any materials. As the young lady walked passed the counselor he offered materials, but apparently she either didn’t hear or was ignoring him and kept going.
However, as she started to pull out on the street she had her window down (the counselor could see a rosary hanging from the mirror), so he asked her if she’d like to take these handouts with her. She said “What’s that?”. He explained and she said “Well that’s just what I need to share with my friend in there.” She told the counselor her friend was “on the fence” so to speak, and both she and the girl’s mom didn’t want her friend to go through with an abortion.
So she parked the car right there in the front driveway and went in to talk to both her friend her friend’s mom with all the handouts. The counselor could see them all talking back and forth with each other through the front door glass. After a good 15 minutes or so, the woman came back out and thanked the counselor for the materials, and said she had to leave for work, but that her friend and friend’s mom were staying a while. Before she left, she said her friend was leaning on the side of not going through with the abortion.
After she drove off, the mom and daughter stepped outside talking, and just the daughter remained outside talking on her phone. The mom came down and the counselor had a chance to talk to her for more than a few minutes. Although the mom didn’t want her daughter to have an abortion, she was letting her “make her own decision.” The counselor advised her that wasn’t a good plan. Afterall, that was her grandson/granddaughter she was dealing with here. The counselor did his best to encourage her to leave this place and go to any pregnancy resource center and showed her the True Choice contact number as he knew they were open. He asked the mom to call that number ASAP, and made sure the mom had all the handouts before she walked back up to the daughter out front. They chatted for a moment then went in again. Unfortunately they didn’t come out in time for the counselor to know the outcome.
Please keep both of these women and their unborn babies in your prayers.
