The following comes from a Sept. 4 story on LifeSiteNews.
Cardinal Raymond Burke, head of the Vatican’s highest court – the Apostolic Signatura – has given a lengthy televised interview in which he decisively rectifies the false notions about Pope Francis’ “Who am I to judge” quote that has been used to suggest a change in Church teaching on the matter of homosexuality.
Host Thomas McKenna of Catholic Action Insight questioned Cardinal Burke about instances where people must make judgments in light of Pope Francis’ “Who am I to judge” phrase.
“We have to judge acts, we have to,” Cardinal Burke replied. “All day long we make judgments with regards to certain acts; this is what the natural law is: to choose good and to avoid evil.”
The Vatican cardinal added that while we can judge acts as gravely sinful we can’t say that a particular person is in grave sin, since “perhaps you are committing them without even knowing that they are gravely sinful, or perhaps you are committing them without fully consenting, who knows?”
“That kind of judgment is a part, but the acts themselves we have to judge, we couldn’t live a good and moral life otherwise,” he added.
McKenna followed up by noting that it would be wrong to interpret the pope’s phrase to indicate support for homosexual “marriage,” and Burke agreed.
The cardinal then addressed the hot button topic of tolerance and intolerance at the heart of the debate.
“I’m not intolerant of people of same-sex attraction,” he said. “I have great compassion for them and especially in our society today where many young people are led into the same-sex activity where they might not have been in the past because of complete relaxation of morals and a corruption.”
“I have great compassion for them but that compassion means that I want them to know the truth to avoid sinful acts for the sake of their own good for their own salvation and so you try to help the person,” he added. “Now that today isn’t well received by an aggressive homosexual agenda but that doesn’t mean that it’s not the right approach to take.”
Cardinal Burke warned that should we remain silent due to pressure from the aggressive homosexual agenda, we would be “presiding over the destruction of our society.”
For Cardinal Burke the approach is not only theoretical but also practical. He related that after a confirmation Mass a mother approached him angrily accusing him of calling her daughter evil. When he asked to what she was referring she spoke of columns he wrote in the diocesan paper about the traditional definition of marriage. Her daughter, she said, was “married” to another woman.
Cardinal Burke relates his response to the angry mother: “’No’, I said, ‘the acts which your daughter is committing are evil. Your daughter is not evil, but she needs to come to understand the truth about her situation.’”
The head of the Apostolic Signatura said there is much misunderstanding about the matter today “and sadly it leads to a lot of good people not doing what they should do, to help someone who is suffering in this condition.”

NEW YORK — Digital First Media, which operates this newspaper and website, announced Friday that it had retained an adviser to help it explore “strategic alternatives,” including a sale of some or all of the company…
Digital First Media, based in New York, was formed in December 2013 with the merger of MediaNews Group and the former Journal Register Company.
It is the nation’s second-largest newspaper company, based on circulation, operating in 15 states, with 800 multi-platform news and information products, including 76 daily and Sunday newspapers — among them the San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa Times and Oakland Tribune — and 160 weeklies. The company said it serves 75 million customers monthly.
The company is controlled by the hedge fund Alden Global Capital…
Media analysts said it would be hard to find a buyer for Digital First Media as a whole, and that a more likely course would be for regional buyers to acquire pieces of the company.
“They could decide to break up the business into different operating entities -Media analysts have speculated for months about the company’s future. In April, it shut down Thunderdome, an experimental digital newsroom, and it currently is selling 70 buildings, printing plants and other properties.

The Downside of Slanted News Reports
https://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/66020?utm_source=CFP+Mailout&utm_campaign=a68e408a09-Call_to_Champions
There was a time when most Americans believed news reports and many even respected members of the news media. Indeed, the news media was almost regarded as another branch of government, described as the “fourth estate.”
Neutral reporting of events helped citizens make informed choices about politicians, proposed legislation, and governmental endeavors. But that was long ago.
Members of today’s media feel that proselytizing takes precedence over reporting. Consequently, they report incidents selectively, deviously rationalizing their biased reporting by applying the philosophy “the end justifies the means.”
Ah, Cardinal Burke — said like a man of Faith. Yes, a masculine voice standing tall. And, you know, the same kind of thing goes on with this blog: detest the sin, but not the sinner. We all have a chance at salvation. You risk the chance when you refuse to acknowledge sinful acts — this is the problem with the homosexual “agenda,” so called. You have to give up the sin to be saved. Unfortunately, Pope Francis often forgets to say this last thing. Talk of mercy is great, but ” go and sin no more” is needed as well.
CCC: ” 1451 Among the penitent’s acts contrition occupies first place.
Contrition is SORROW of the soul
and DETESTATION of the sin committed,
together with the RESOLUTION NOT TO SIN again.”
Sins are not forgiven without these 3 conditions being met.
(Caps in quote are mine.)
Given the frequency of such forgetfulness, one could be forgiven for wondering if Pope Francis “forgets” the go-and-sin-no-more part on purpose.
JESUS said to “judge with right judgment” – Jn 7:24
JESUS also said that we must not be hypocrites so we should take the log out of our own eye so that we may SEE CLEARLY to take the splinter out of our brother’s eye, Mt 7:5; Lk 6:42.
Remember these verses since those who support mortal sin will tell you not to “judge”.

Part of the big problem here in regard to Same Sex Attraction and it’s attendant evils, including “gay” marriage, is that it would seem there are not many pastors or deacons in most parishes who WANT to preach against these evils. Too many want desperately to be “liked” by their parishioners. And they just don’t “GET” it. We live in age of many evils, almost at times overwhelmingly so, and no headway will be made back into virtuous lifestyles unless these pastors and others in positions of responsibility will exercise gutsiness and call a moral spade just that. I know at my parish, one rarely hears ANYTHING about the battles that rage on in virtually every state re the huge S.S.A. problem afflicting society, and the total evil of sodomitic “marriage” that follows in it’s wake. Too many of the clergy are just SPINELESS. And let’s just not get started with legalized abortion. Too many Priests and others fled that scene long ago. But thank God so many young people FINALLY came to and started to mobilize for human life to where it might be that we’ll see Roe V. Wade overturned within maybe two years. I know that’s what I pray for. Now if only more people could just wake up to the luciferian blandishments re S.S.A. and “gay” marriage, the actual logical absurdity of it all would literally overwhelm them; a good start is to read the new book, “Making Gay O.K.” by Robert Reilly, a truly magnificent book concerning the deviant GayHomo lifestyle. It’s dynamite! God bless all, Markrite
Pray for the Bishops and Priests who withhold teachings of Christ and His Church from those in the pews, and talk to your Priests about their sins of omission – which lead others to sin.
We each must encourage everyone to read a Catholic Bible and the CCC, to make up for lack of accurate teaching of Bishops/Priests/Nuns.
Hosea 4:6
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;
because you have rejected knowledge,
I reject you from being a Priest to me. “
I agree OSCAR. God bless you for speaking the truth and encouraging others of their duty as Catholics in full communion with Christ’s church. Let us not get mixed up with heretics and schismatics. For their way only leads to chaos and more unpleasantness.
God bless Cardinal Burke, He is in my prayers. I am grateful for His wisdom and knowledge that comes from our Lord. He is a blessing to us all in Christ our Lord, who reigns forever and ever. Amen

INTRINSIC EVILS can NEVER be approved or tolerated.
Intrinsic Evils include: Abortion, Euthanasia, Homosexual Marriage, Embryonic Stem Cell Research, Cloning, and Contraception.
SINS of OMISSION must be confessed.
Far too often people neglect sins of omission during an examination of conscience.

Yes, I understand the narrow and heroic difficulty of tolerance toward those who are burdened with same-sex attraction. We think and believe that such a burden is a choice, and it is, but how informed of the gravity of acting on that sin is the person burdened with that sin? My sister chose to leave the Church soon after her marriage to a lapsed Catholic, she had two children, a boy first then a girl. Her daughter had a troubled upbringing what with my sister not having any sacraments provided for the children and her daughter being shuffled around due to alcoholism of her mother who finally became sober when my niece was a teen. My niece lived with her father her last year in HS and received some counseling, but the counselor managed to convince my niece that she was a lesbian. My niece was no lesbian, but she was troubled by how men and women were supposed to relate to one another in spite of the best efforts of family. When I discovered all this my niece was in an abusive relationship with a butch lesbian who would beat her. Finally my niece decided to leave, but rather than allow her to leave, the oher lesbian shot my niece and killed her. She was never charged because the other lesbian tampered with evidence and critical testing on her hands was never done. She claimed it was a suicide but there was no powder residue on my neice’s hands. For lack of evidence the other lesbian was never charged and she has since disappeared from here, but I know in my heart that she killed my niece. I have worked very hard forgiving that lesbian, but my point to all this is that my niece was NOT FULLY INFORMED by either of her parents in how men and women are truly to relate to each other, she was victim to a counselor with her own agenda regarding sexuality, and in my own conversations with my neice, she was innocent in UNDERSTANDING the gravity of actng on same-sex attraction.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Praying for her soul.
Life Lady,
I am sorry for the terrible wound that this has caused your family. Thank you for sharing this story. Although it is painful, this true story allows us to learn from the many tragic events that happened to your niece. Just as Devout Traditional Catholic warned the poster jon about his accountability when jon influences readers, the counselor who influenced your niece will also be held accountable. May God show his tender mercy on the soul of your niece and in bringing something beautiful out of all of this terrible hurt. Jesus I Trust in You!
Encourage everyone (even non Catholics) to read the Bible and the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition”.
“….the CATECHISM has raised throughout the world, even among non-Christians, and confirms its purpose of being presented as a full, complete exposition of Catholic doctrine, enabling everyone to know what the Church professes, celebrates, lives, and prays in her daily life.” – Pope John Paul II (CCC pg xiv)
CCC: ” 1791 This ignorance can often be imputed to personal responsibility.
This is the case when a man takes little trouble to find out what is true and good,
or when conscience is by degrees almost blinded through the habit of committing sin.
In such cases, the person is culpable for the evil he commits.”
“Life Lady”: This is a terrible story. We should all pray for your niece, and trust to a loving and merciful Jesus. Utterly incomprehensible what mankind does in life to each other. Peace be with you.
Life Lady I am so sorry to hear about your niece. My heart goes out to you and your family.
I have always had tremendous respect for Cardinal Burke! Wish he could be Pope! Many ignorant people today, use corrupted versions of psychology, to defend immoral, hedonistic, immature, selfish “lifestyles.” As we grow up, we all must be taught right from wrong, and to seek Virtue, and avoid sin! We also must have a solid work ethic, and good moral conscience, to lead a good life, and to be a good follower of Christ, as well as a good citizen of our country! We all must be willing to think our way through complex life situations, with honesty– and be willing to do what is truly right, in each situation! And we must courageously stand up against dishonesty, corruption, and sin, with maturity! Yes– that will cause us much social discord at times– and yes, we will have to lose many so-called “friends!” But that is the price that mature people always pay, for Virtue! It has been so shocking, to see the post-Vatican II Church, shrivel up into a spineless, corrupt, dishonest, illiterate pawn, a frightened “yes-man,” in the hands of morally-ignorant, barbaric laymen!
Linda Marie,
You have a very abrupt and direct way of saying the truth, KEEP IT UP!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika and His Church!
Viva Cristo Rey!
Kenneth M. Fisher
Unfortunately, it is unlikely that Cardinal Burke will keep his post, given the many interior moves in the Vatican to shore up the “Francis-thinking” clergy there. Still, the good Cardinal will be a voice for the True Faith and for Christ, not like the “Happy-Bravo” cheerleader Cardinal Dolan, so beloved of the apostates, and the many, many bishops that are quietly destroying any bits of Tradition within their dioceses. And, whatever happened to the appeal by Fisher More College against the TLM prohibition of Bishop Olson? In the meantime, so many bad bishops give awful advice to their “flocks”; we need Cardinal Burke and many more like him.

Please pray for our beloved Cardinal Burke. The pope of our chastisement, indeed.
YES!! Cardinal Burke should be our Pope!
What is wrong with you people? Cardinal Burke has done awful things to Catholic children and their families. While in St. Louis, Burke was often reckless, deceptive and callous regarding predator priests, vulnerable kids and wounded victims. He expanded the troubling practice of importing sexually troubled priests from across the US, letting some of them work in local parishes and letting others stay in church facilities that are secretive and careless about public safety.
Unsubstantiated slander, Fran…like the sharks in a feeding frenzy about Sarah Palin’s alleged family brawl. I’m beyond tired of lies being used to smear the reputation of good men, while others practically wearing neon signs proclaiming their use of drugs, illicit sex, political skulduggery and a host of other sins, get a free pass.
Fran you better pray first before you decide to shun a holy Cardinal. Examine your conscience and bad will, then you will see that there is nothing wrong with “us” people. If you love homosexuals you will want to free them with Christ’s truths not enslave them.
Your in my prayers.
Fran, can you please give some facts about what you are relating in this post? Cardinal Burke was much loved and admired, when he served as Bishop of La Crosse, Wisconsin! Next, he served as Archbishop of St. Louis, for only a brief time. I don’t think there have been any reports, of Cardinal Burke ever doing the evil things that you are saying he did! If he did do these things– then, please provide some facts! Thanks!
It’s all true, and I’m not going to hell for speaking the truth, Abeca Christian,
Cardinal Burke’s ability to conceal the diocese’s dirty laundry was abetted by Wisconsin’s unique civil code, which makes it virtually impossible for someone to sue the church for the actions of an individual priest.
“He stands with his fellow bishops in Wisconsin as having had the ability to just rebuke and ignore our victims,” says Jeff Anderson, an attorney in St. Paul, Minnesota, who specializes in clergy abuse cases. “He has a long history of making pastoral statements that they care, that they want to heal, that they want to help. They are very long on words, but very short on actions.”
But some members of Raymond Burke’s former flock paint a far different portrait of the erstwhile bishop of La Crosse. If cases of clergy sex abuse were few and far between, they say, it was because Burke was a master at keeping a lid on them. Several victims who claim they were abused by priests in La Crosse tell Riverfront Times they were stonewalled by Burke, who declined to report their allegations to local authorities. And while some of his fellow church officials nationwide were reaching hefty settlements with victims, Raymond Burke was unyielding in his refusal to negotiate with victims’ rights groups. He declined to make public the names of priests who were known to have been abusive, and he denied requests to set up a victims’ fund. Most strikingly, Riverfront Times has learned, while bishop in La Crosse Burke allowed at least three priests to remain clerics in good standing long after allegations of their sexual misconduct had been proven — to the church, to the courts and, finally, to Burke himself.
Fran, absolute SLANDER (lies) spread by those who wish to destroy the Church.
You will go to Hell for lying.
Prove your statements with official Church or official Church documents – give the links.
And don’t use the officially condemned (heretical) National Catholic REPORTER. It is not Catholic or official.
Have any of you ever used google, or is it to hard? Able, this is not “Breaking News”. This horrible news about Cardinal Burke has been known for a lot of years. Where have you people been, locked in a closet somewhere? Well, it’s time to come out and smell the truth.
“that today isn’t well received by an aggressive homosexual agenda”
Spot on, Cardinal Burke! Sodomites and Muslims are the two riders of the Pale Horse of the Apocalypse: Death and Hades (Rev. 6:7-8). As Muslims are beheading Christians in the East, sodomites are moving to suppress and then crush Christianity in the West. Then, these two minions of Satan will turn against each other and conflagrate the earth, bringing the Apocalypse, whereupon the Son of Man will come and “cast them into a furnace of fire, where there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth” (Matt. 13:42).
Sounds interesting, but too long an drawn out. Probably better to skip over the minions part and get right to the wailing and gnashing. When is it coming out on Blu-Ray??
Good comments juergensen! You are awesome and always a breath of fresh air in your style to express the message that needs to be told, the message that leads to more beautiful truths to help those in grace sin get to heaven.
After all that should be our main and only concern….to get to heaven!
Praise BE Jesus Christ!
Correction I meant grave not grace sin…please add correction to word grace…it should read grave sin not grace sin. Thank you God bless
A breath of fresh air Abecca? You live in a smoke stack or what?
JERGY, Way over the top. Middle East = lopping off heads, SOS – different day for thousands of years.
Cardinal Burke was no doubt convinced when he left La Crosse that the Wisconsin law would never hold him accountable, nor any other diocesan officials, for abusive clergy. A controversial Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling in the mid 1990’s had barred all lawsuits against bishops and clergy molesters based on the first amendment of the US constitution, the only such ruling of its kind in the country. Emboldened by this decision, Burke cleared a greater percentage of priests reported to the bishop for sexually assaulting children than anywhere else in the United States, six times the national average, according to figures compiled for the U.S. Bishops by the John Jay College for Criminal Justice.
But in 2007, asCardial Burke was becoming one of the most powerful men in the Vatican, a new Wisconsin Supreme Court unanimously ruled that dioceses could be sued for fraud if found to have concealed and transferred known child molesting clerics. So now, perhaps, at long last, Burke and the three bishops of La Crosse involved in Father Bornbach’s cover up, including current Milwaukee archbishop Jerome Listecki, will have to answer for their conduct.
When Archbishop Jerome Listecki officiated the public funeral for Father Bornbach in 2006, he buried this unrepentant child molester in full clerical dress all the while gushing with praise for his priestly life and work.
Please – Say It Ain’t So! BTW – Breitbart apparently broke this first, and not others who should have:
“REPORT: POPE PLANS ON EXILING CONSERVATIVE CATHOLIC HERO CARDINAL RAYMOND BURKE
https://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2014/09/17/Pope-Plans-on-Exiling-Conservative-Catholic-Hero-Cardinal-Burke
Pope Francis reportedly plans on removing Cardinal Raymond Burke from head of the Apostolic Signatura (Vatican “Supreme Court”) and relegating him to the largely ceremonial role as head of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.
The new role would see Burke removed from the Roman Curia altogether. The Curia is the body of Vatican-based Cardinals who are close advisers to the Pope and who can be said to “run” the Church, or at least powerful organs of the Church.
Burke has been controversial for most of his priestly career, a hero to conservatives and a bane to the left…
Since the elevation of Francis to the Papacy, Burke has sought to clarify some of the confusing things Francis has tended to say. When Francis seemed to say that abortion was no longer an important issue, Cardinal Burke said nothing in the Church teaching had changed.
As some of his colleagues, including those in papal favor, have announced that Church teaching may change with regard to divorced and unsacramentally remarried Catholics, Burke has said that cannot happen.
In fact, he is the co-author with three other Cardinals of a new book making the case for why Church teaching on this subject cannot change. The book has been released ahead of the Synod of Bishops to take place next month in Rome that will deal with this question.
There is ample precedent of Curial Cardinals to be made head of the Order of Malta. However it is unprecedented, according to ace Vatican watcher Sandro Magister, for someone so young to be removed from the Curia altogether and only given this relatively minor role to play. Magister calls the move a “decapitation.”
Cardinal Burke was Stephen K. Bannon’s guest on Breitbart News Sunday on the SiriusXM Patriot Channel during the Canonization of John Paul the Great earlier this year.
The Patron of the Order of Malta is not the head of the organization. It has a lay executive officer. The Patron is more like the Chaplain. This is very different than the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher which has a Cardinal as its head. The Patron of the Order of Malta has no power or opportunity to influence anything. This move is very “roman” in that they tend to promote to positions of no influence.
Bob One, for once we agree. Cardinal Burke is apparently being considered to be sent to a “no power” position, because of his accurate positions regarding: Abortion – murder of the innocent; Divorce and remarriage; and Sacrilege (receiving Holy Communion while in the State of Mortal sin.) All of which are in full accord with Holy Scripture and the teachings of the Church.
Jesus: Jn 15:18-19 “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”
When I heard this news, I was so terribly sad! I have admired Cardinal Burke for many years! Wish he could be Pope! Now, he is gone, from all possible Church leadership– exiled, in a sort of unjust and insane “retirement!” Unthinkable!
Before you all panic, go read Fr. Z’s Blog on this issue.
Yes it is all true His Grace Cardinal Burke is being demoted and sent into exile to a nothing post as a Knight of Malta. His crime? Being a faithful servent of Christ and His Church and of course celebrating many many Pontifical High Masses according to the Traditional Rite. Bergoglio has systematically destroyed all that our Great Holy Father Pope Benedict the XVI had started when he gave us Summorum Pontificum, Dear Lord how we miss you.
I agree! I was so terribly sad, when I heard this news! I have always wished Cardinal Burke could be our Pope!
Fran and others who support slander can not give links to any proof – official Church documents. They almost always cannot do it, and just keep repeating their lies.
(They may be only able to use the condemned “National Catholic REPORTER”, to support their claims.)
Always ask posters to provide links to Official Church documents when they appear to slander others, or are dishonest about Church teaching.
Anne, This just one of many. Posted Jun 14, 2007….Abuse alleged at Cardinal Ritter College Prep…By Alvin A. Reid Of the St. Louis American….Charles Spearman anonymously sued four Catholic priests from the St. Louis area on the grounds that they sexually molested him while attending parochial schools as a child. Spearman alleged that Father James Theil, Father Michael O. Barry, Father Chester “Chet” Gaiter and Father Thaddeus Posey, all formerly of Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School, sexually abused him. In late April, Gaiter, Barry and Theil settled for $140,000. Parties to the settlement included the Jesuits of Missouri Province, the Redemptorists Denver Province and the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Spearman’s federal case against Posey is still pending/ “If it were not for me, no one would know this,” Spearman said. Citing the fact that every U.S. bishop had pledged to be “open and transparent” concerning clergy sexual abuse, he criticized Archbishop Raymond Burke and other Catholic officials for remaining silent about his molestation and the settlement with three priests. Also, Spearman said Burke remains silent regarding the whereabouts of a fifth accused priest who, according to Spearman, allegedly abused another boy at the school and was suspended in 2004
Thank God, for men like cardinal burke, pray the Holy Father will see clearly as Pope Benidict did when he placed burke in his position ,
Hello, Pr. Burke, I have one question, but I have to explain it first, to be analize. because GOD’s message to me… the holy name LORD, is already abuse by bad people. Example: they used it, as druglord, gumbling lord and landlord. GOD said: the word lord is not acceptable to HIM. the word lord is the evil god. Lucifer need to be like god, he use the word lord, as lord of evil. In behalf of God the Father in Heaven, please analize it carefully. the word lord must be remove and replace the, GOD word. In english books. I hope you understand what I’m talking about. Please be alert of my message, because the time is coming. Everything in this world are on the hands of the GOD the FATHER in Heaven. He is watching everything in this world. GOD knows the work of lucifer, but people are not. but if we analize the situation. We can be more understand will. Thank you very much.
Hello. Pr. Burke, pope francis must not tolerate the gay and the lesbian, if remember the sodomma and gomora. they are all gay and lesbian. but GOD
do not do it again. God make another kind of surprises for those who do not follow His command, who disobey Him. Thanks
