The following was submitted by a Cal Catholic reader last week.
Henry Waxman, 74, the undisputed political leader for the abortion industry in California and the U.S., has announced his retirement from Congress.
Recently, Waxman in one of his last actions, along with 93 members of Congress filed an amicus brief in Supreme Court to keep contraceptive coverage as a requirement within Obamacare, despite strong opposition from the Catholic and Christian community.
In November 2012, Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, praised Waxman:
“In Congress, Henry Waxman stood strong against Boehner and the Tea Party…. thanks to Congressman Waxman and President Obama, the Affordable Care Act requires that insurance companies cover birth control like any other preventive prescription.
“Time after time, Congressman Waxman has championed women’s health. Simply put, he trusts women to make our own health care decisions. And he knows that these issues are matters of basic health care and economic stability for women and their families.
“That’s why Planned Parenthood Action Fund supports Congressman Waxman 100 percent.”

Selfishness vs. loyalty to other Democrats
The following comes from a Feb. 1 story by Tony Quinn in the California Political Review. Originally posted on Fox and Hounds.
Rep. Henry Waxman is retiring from Congress, in part, he says, because of the “extremism of the Tea Party Republicans. I am embarrassed that the greatest legislative body in the world too often operates in a partisan intellectual vacuum.” Yet the fact is that few members have contributed more to the partisanship, extremism and dysfunction of Congress than Henry Waxman in his four decades of service.
Over those years his attitude toward his political opponents has been not only that they were wrong, but that they are deserving of no respect whatsoever. That was not how Congress worked when Waxman first arrived, but in no small part thanks to him, it is the norm for Congress today.
Waxman’s first contribution to dysfunctional politics won’t be mentioned in the fawning accounts of his career in the state and national media; his involvement in the arcane world of redistricting. Waxman was elected to the California Assembly in 1968 and became chair of the redistricting committee in 1971.
Redistricting could be partisan, but at least people were honorable. Waxman was not. His main objective in the 1971 redistricting was to create a seat for his fellow Democrat and an old pal, Howard Berman. That’s fine, but in Waxman’s case he just rolled over the Republican opposition since his scheme required collapsing Republican seats. This set off a two-year redistricting war the likes of which California had never seen and out of that grew the partisan hatreds that colored life in the California legislature for decades.
Waxman went to Congress in 1974 and was soon joined by Howard Berman. For years they schemed to make sure they had safe congressional districts for themselves even though that meant denying fair representation to the growing Latino population in the San Fernando Valley. Waxman’s bleeding heart liberalism never extended to making his own political life uncomfortable.
That attitude finally caught up with Waxman and Berman in 2011 when the Citizens Redistricting Commission added a Latino seat in the Valley and gave both Waxman and Berman very bad districts. Waxman is not retiring because he is tired of Congress; he is leaving because he no longer has a sweetheart district drawn for him by his friends.
Over his decades in Congress, Waxman was well known for showing utter contempt for his political and policy opponents, never willing to admit that they may have a legitimate argument once in a while. That attitude led him to reshape the investigating committees which he chaired in the 1990s into star chambers, most notably when he harangued tobacco executives at a famous 1994 hearing.
Anti-tobacco liberals and Democrats loved that, of course. But now Rep. Darrell Issa (R-San Diego), the current chairman of the main investigating committee, does exactly the same thing to his political enemies Waxman once did, and left-wingers and Democrats decry his behavior. Well, maybe they should look at who started using Congress like a tool for personal inquisitions, Henry Waxman.
Waxman never deviated from firm support for whatever progressive fad was in vogue at the time, and eventually this was his undoing, and that of his party. After Barack Obama’s election in 2008, Waxman thought his day had arrived. He organized a coup against Democratic Rep. John Dingell of Michigan, the chairman of the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee and succeeded in ousting him. Waxman then took over and immediately pushed through the House a cap-and-trade emissions bill that was too extreme for the nation and was a poorly disguised attack on Waxman’s favorite great satans, including the coal industry.
In the 2010 election, that bill led to massive Democratic loses in industrial and border state districts, leading to the loss of Democratic control of the House, and the rise of the Tea Party which Waxman so much despises. Waxman also helped shape the 2009 Obamacare legislation which, if the polls are to be believed, may cost Democrats control of the United States Senate this year.
In the process of pushing through the House bills that lacked broad national support, he helped dismantle his own Democratic Party in state after state. Thanks in part to Waxman, his own party is now too extreme in places like Oklahoma, Arkansas, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky – states that were the bedrock of the Democratic majority in the House when he was first elected.
In his 88th year and 59th year of service in the House, John Dingell will seek a 30th term in Michigan this year and will be re-elected. Although now in the minority meaning he won’t ever chair a committee again, Dingell won’t be a bit sorry to see Waxman go.

Waxman is not retiring because of the GOP or Tea Party.
In the history of the USA there has always been opposition Parties.
Basically what Waxman is saying is that he is quitting when he can not be a dictator and have his own way.
If the TEA PARTY is truly responsible for any of the evil politicians like Waxman resigning – – we should all join the TEA PARTY. :)
Waxman’s legacy is one of intense partisanship, and the creation of a legacy of death for millions of the unborn (and not a few women who suffered due to their abortions). But, Henry W. did create millions and millions of dollars for Planned Parenthood; boy do they love him. It is hoped that the people of his district will elect, at least, a representative that knows how to debate, and that has a belief in the goodness of the American spirit. Waxman, like many Democrats, does not adhere to any principled decision-making, but rather a jack-booted “all hands up for the leader” approach to politics more suited to Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia. What an anomaly: no choice to use tobacco (and under crazy science, to boot), but all the choice in the world to kill the unborn, and to wreak violence on the unsuspecting lives of women, as they proceed to destroy their own children. Congratulations, Congressman Waxman!
St. Christopher,
If you only knew how accurate your above statements are about comrade Henry! I DO!

BEWARE – SANDRA FLUKE has filed to run for Waxman’s office.
Fluke wants all of us to pay for her abortions and contraception.
And if we do not want to pay for this immoral activity – we are warring against women – that is her mantra.

FLUKE is a product of Jesuit Georgetown University – which has been allowed to continue to call itself “Catholic” by Diocese Bishop, Cardinal Donald Wuerl.
Maybe he’s satisfied with the tens of millions of butchered babies whose deaths he and his party have enabled. Unlike Pelosi, who obviously needs to oversee the butchering of a few million more babies before she retires to her diocese to receive the Holy Eucharist.
Juergensen,
Are you the Curt Juergensen who is running against a known sodomite Republicrat for Congress in Sad Diego?
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika!
Viva Cristo Rey!

Kenneth M. Fisher
Kenneth, no, sorry!
In 2006, Waxman was giving a speech at USC and disclosed his priorities: Waxman said,
“Human rights, social justice and equal opportunities,” values he holds as a Jew and as an American, “are in my opinion closer to a democratic position.”
Waxman lamented the Republican leadership and the Tea Party as both unethical, i.e., un-American, in Waxman ideology..
According to his own congressional website, Waxman’s priorities are healthcare (abortion and nationalized health insurance like Obamacare), environmental issues and a defense of Israel. His website states,
“Rep. Waxman has earned the reputation as an expert on Middle East policy and an effective proponent of American aid to guarantee Israel’s security and survival. He serves as a Congressional appointee to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council and helped found the Congressional Democratic Israel Working Group and the Congressional Task Force Against Anti-Semitism.”
How bizarre that Waxman prioritized the killing of unborn babies and protection —not of the USA—but of another country, Israel.
Jack,
As a Young Democrat Officer, I knew him as being more favorable to the arming of Israel than our own American Troops!
God Bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
In the interest of journalistic honesty, Waxman can more accurately be said to have convinced himself he has been a champion for women’s health while consciously choosing to ignore the fact he has enabled and encouraged the murders of countless human beings who would otherwise be free, living American citizens were it not for people like himself who approve of and enable their murders, thus defying God and simple human decency.
I wonder how he can live with himself. I feel confident the souls of the innocent babies murdered by the group actions of such as Henry Waxman are safe unto eternity in the arms of God.
I cannot dare or suffer to wonder on the eternal fate of anyone complicit in the murders of a single innocent unborn babe, let alone of any person conspiring in the killing of children by the unfathomable millions.
I can tell you what might happen when a strong pro life woman who worked night and day for decades to safeguard women and their unborn is called to her eternal reward. Years ago a woman named Olive Meehan died after suffering with cancer for years. She offered up all her sufferings for the unborn and the end of abortion. The church was packed and the celebrant, Msgr Brennan, never known to canonize anyone at a funeral, remarked that when Olive died, millions of babies she had tried to save, greeted her, shouting her name, “Olive, Olive, Olive, ” welcoming home their hero. Not a dry eye in the church!
Hello Anniem
Thank you for the beautiful memory of our mother! She was an amazing woman! You brought a lovely memory flooding back along with a lot of emotion! My brother found this by chance!
Waxman has always relied heavily on really big political donations from prominent ultra-Left Jews like Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Speilberg.
However, in 2011 Waxman made the ultimate stereotypical insult to the Jewish community by saying that some Jews are selecting not to vote for Democrats because “they want to protect their wealth, which is why a lot of well-off (Jewish) voters vote for Republicans.”
Waxman forgot that most of these wealthy donors made their money as capitalists, and they will prioritize the financial health of the country and their ventures over issues sacred to Waxman (population control, abortion, environment and Israel.
Waxman must be very upset he didnt obtain the Margaret Sanger award, which this year is being awarded by Planned Parenthood to “our fellow Catholic”, Nancy Pelosi.
At Lifenews.com 1/31/14 the following article:
“On behalf of Planned Parenthood and the millions of patients we serve each year, it gives me great pleasure to announce that House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi will receive [Mar. 27th at gala event in Wash DC] the Planned Parenthood Federation of America Margaret Sanger Award, our highest recognition of leadership, excellence, and outstanding contributions to the reproductive health and rights movement,” said Cecile Richards, President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
May God have mercy on this baby butcher.
Any politician who supports the murder of the innocents for the convenience of others is evil.
Any politician who supports sodomy marriage is evil.
Waxman does both based upon his votes in Congress and his public statements.
It seems to me that if a person wants to have a major impact on the policies of their nation, they need to be in a position to have the impact. They run for the school board, city council, state assembly or senate, House of Representatives or Senate. Once they are in office, they do what they can to implement those policies on as broad a spectrum as possible. After a while, they come to the conclusion that they have done what they set out to do, and after 40 years it is time to retire. If a Republican is elected, they try to implement Republican policy. If they are Democrats, they try to implement Democratic policies. I think that it is important to remember that they country is very divided on which policy is best for the nation. On this site, most people who comment represent the extreme right wing of country, and that is great. There are other sites that represent the extreme left wing of the country. The truth, however, is that the middle rules. Our nation today is at logger heads because there is no middle ground or willingness to compromise. If we are not willing to compromise, even sometimes our principals for another day, this country will go the way of the Balkans. We need, don’t you agree, to learn to disagree without hating. Accusing someone of having an immoral soul, or being destined for the fires of hell doesn’t accomplish much. We need to accept the vote of the people and work for the betterment of the country within the system. The extreme right wing of the country doesn’t represent the majority. Would it not be better to discuss principals and truths rather than constantly calling those with whom we disagree nasty names and assuming their judgement before God?
Mr. Waxman deserves a relaxing retirement, having dutifully served Satan for so many years.
Bob One,
One what?
“I would rather you be hot or cold than luke (moderate)warm, the l luke warm I vomit out of my mouth”! I think you know Who said that.
The country is divided because of moderates like you that won’t let us get back to our original Constitution and away from the one bastardized by the so called Supreme Court.
Compromise with evil is still evil!
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika!
Viva Cristo Rey!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
