The American taxpayer is on the hook to provide money to the nation’s largest abortion provider, so it’s important that we have the necessary information to evaluate its practices.
Planned Parenthood releases a report each year highlighting the abortion giant’s medical service data, revenue and expenses, and advocacy and educational activity. The annual reports are typically published in December or January. The most recent report available addresses 2014-2015 and was released in December 2015.
Based on the timing of past reports, the 2015-2016 annual report was expected to be available sometime in December 2016 or January 2017. As of today, the report is nowhere to be found.
Why has Planned Parenthood not released its highly anticipated annual report? When will the organization make available the data for 2015-2016? Requests from The Daily Signal to Planned Parenthood’s press team have gone unanswered.
Why the Report Matters
The Planned Parenthood annual report provides Americans—whether they are pro-life or pro-choice—with important information about abortion incidence and other services provided by the nonprofit organization, which receives over half a billion dollars from taxpayers each year.
The report data tell us, for example, that 94 percent of Planned Parenthood’s “pregnancy services” were abortions, and less than 1 percent were adoption referrals in 2014-2015. The report tells us that in the same year, Planned Parenthood performed 323,999 abortions—one every 98 seconds. It tells us that in the last three reported years (2012, 2013, and 2014), Planned Parenthood has aborted nearly 1 million baby boys and baby girls.
The report data also tell us that its contraceptive services have dropped. Total services have dropped. The number of unique patients served has dropped. Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood reports almost $59 million in excess revenue for fiscal year 2015 and more than $1.4 billion in net assets.
In other words, the Planned Parenthood annual report provides important data and context to policymakers as they debate whether or not the abortion provider should continue receiving taxpayer funding.
We’re two weeks into February and Planned Parenthood isn’t giving a reason for the most recent report’s delay—or saying if there will be a report at all. In the meantime, Americans do not have access to the most recent, updated information as the debate about tax dollars entangled with the abortion industry continues on Capitol Hill.
From The Daily Signal.
Where are Donald Trump’s tax returns for the past 10 years?
Donald Trump gets paid $1.00 a year of our tax money. Planned Parenthood gets paid over $500,000,000.00 (that’s over half a billion dollars) a year of our tax money. We have a right to know what is being done with our tax dollars.
There are no reports that the IRS has audited Trump and found that he has violated the tax laws. Planned Parenthood is being investigated for breaking the law by illegally selling of baby parts.
Donald Trump is making far more money by renting out Mar-a-Lago and floors worth of Trump Tower apartments for Secret Service and White House use. But that is besides the point: We have to know what the conflicts of interest the President has or is likely to have.
It doesn’t make a lick of difference whether PP has issued an annual report. Non-profits are not required to issue annual reports, and many do not. They are subject to reporting requirements for grants they receive, and I’m sure they comply with those reporting requirements.
Opening up tax returns to public or media scrutiny is not a requirement to run for office of US President or to hold that office. A non profit report on activities and use of govt. funds is required.
Non-profits are not required to issue a public annual report.
Why are we surprised by this action? PP would be very pleased if taxpayers just kept quiet, didn’t ask questions about their business and just sent our hard earned tax dollars.
Why the delay? The Senate Vote on H.R.7 – No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017 is said to be upcoming– perhaps in the next week.
The momentum to defund Planned Parenthood is on the fast track. American taxpayers through PP’s own annual reports along with media exposes are now informed about PP abuse of taxpayer money. We know PP has lied–that it is a lawbreaking–corrupt organization.
One educated guess: Planned Parenthood is afraid of releasing their annual report with the upcoming Senate Vote on H.R.7. since their own numbers will convict them of their abuses of taxpayer money and the Senate will be rightly convinced to vote to DEFUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD.
