The following is a Sept. 18 submission by Camille Giglio of Walnut Creek.
If the death and dying crowd has its way, in the future, on your child’s 18th birthday he or she will celebrate the event with a trip to a doctor’s office to have The Conversation on how and when to end one’s life, and California MediCal may pay the doctor for having the conversation.
This little paragraph was removed from the Affordable Care Act when Sarah Palin labeled it Death Panels, but now it is appearing in state legislation.
In California this plan is formulated in legislation and on Governor Brown’s desk awaiting his signature. It is AB 2139 by death and dying advocate Assemblywoman Susan Eggman, entitled Patient Notification.
The bill calls for using MediCal to pay a doctor for discussing end-of-life treatment when a patient receive a diagnosis of a chronic or terminal illness. It further requires the doctor or health care person, to hand the patient a POLST Palliative Care only form along with instructions in how to fill it out.
My local newspaper carried an article today entitled “Earlier, better care urged for end of life.” The article is a report on an Institute of Medicine paper which includes the suggestion that one should begin having discussions with family and doctor beginning at age 18 on the subject of how to best plan for your end of life.
The reporter writing the story, Lisa Krieger, is an activist in the death and dying lobby and is once again touting her agenda. Two years ago the San Jose Mercury News allowed publication of a 10-part series written by Krieger, on the cost of dying. This was followed by several appearances in the area touting the Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment, or, the POLST form.
The article quotes a Dr. Philip Pizzo, former dean of Stanford University’s School of Medicine and co-chair of the report, as saying: “It is our hope that this report will lead to improvements in end-of-life care and the experience of dying for all.”
The report continues by recommending that federal and state governments and private insurers create financial incentives for patients and clinicians (note: it’s clinicians, not doctors) to discuss end-of-life matters, document patient preferences, and provide appropriate services and care.”
They further recommend not only having this conversation once, but several different times at milestones of life, i.e., getting a driver’s license, turning 18, leaving home or marrying.
A Dr. Miller of San Francisco’s Zen Hospice declares that “there is unnecessary and gratuitous suffering.” He’s actually talking about “futile care.” This is an accepted term in certain medical circles meaning that there are some patients for whom it is a waste of time and money to think about curative care for someone’s illness. They are too old, too ill, too low-income, too unessential to society, etc.
Following the 1973 Roe v Wade decision and debates on who was going to pay for these approved abortions, then first-time Governor Jerry Brown, declared that California would pay for all its abortions which our state has continued to do. Now, Second-time-around Brown, is saying that, according to AB 2139, California taxpayers will pay the doctors to have the end-of-life conversation.
Contact Governor Brown to urge a veto of AB 2139.
Euthanasia (under dying with dignity) is included in the 2014 DEMOCRATIC CA State Party Platform (goals).
Where are each of the CA Bishops? The CCCB (California Conference of CA Bishops)?
Their silence against most of the Intrinsic Evils is deafening.
Intrinsic Evils are: Abortion, Euthanasia, Same Sex Marriage, Contraception, Embyonic Stem Cell Research, Cloning.
Intrinsic Evils can never be approved.
One wonders what excuses the most recent California Bishop to enter Eternity tried to give Our Lord!

By even a lax interpretation of Church teaching it should be a sin to belong to or support the Democratic party. Yet that party is held in high esteem by our bishops. One can only say the bishops are not pastoral leaders. They side with the rich and powerful and neglect their flock.
When Bishops do not teach, correct, and when necessary discipline (like good Fathers) to stop Scandal and Save the Souls of baptized Catholic politicians and those scandalized, society goes down the toilet.
By their sins of omission, Bishops teach.
Can. “915 Those who have been excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty
and others obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.”
” I know from a lifetime in and around politics that federal judges and Members of Congress read newspapers. They are influenced by the actions of moral leaders. They gauge what they can “get away with” by what Catholic prelates tolerate.” –
Del Bill Marshall VA.
Oscar,
Why do you think Pope Francis had to get rid of one of the most if not the most astute Canon Lawyer, Cardinal Burke, by removing him as Head of the Sacred Signatura? Hold on to your Faith and your hats folks, you ain’t seen nothing yet!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika and His Church!

Every Catholic home MUST have a copy of the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition”.
Euthanasia is a Mortal Sin. Committing a Mortal Sin at the end of life will send your Soul to Hell for eternity.
“Thou shall not kill” – God’s Commandment.
Put your end of life decisions in writing and have it witnessed.
Keep the original in your file, but provide copies to your Doctor for your file and to a few close family members.
Before you put anything in writing, be certain that it is in full compliance with accurate Church teaching.
See CCC paragraphs 2276 – 2279 (which also encourages palliative care).
CCC: ” 2277 Whatever its motives and means, direct euthanasia consists in putting an end to the lives of handicapped, sick, or dying persons. It is morally unacceptable.
Thus an act or omission which, of itself or by intention, causes death in order to eliminate suffering constitutes a murder gravely contrary to the dignity of the human person and to the respect due to the living God, his Creator.
The error of judgment into which one can fall in good faith does not change the nature of this murderous act, which must always be forbidden and excluded. “
Satan HATES life. He also has much patience (the only virtue he possesses), so he will try over and over again to get his wishes accomplished. Unfortunately, most people today do not believe in the devil (except on Halloween), so they are not afraid of him. As a result, he has much power and influence over what is going on in the world. His stooges are running governments, and are in all parts of society. The only thing a faithful Catholic can do is pray, and make sacrifices. By staying close to Our Lady, she will keep us close to her Son.
I have found that you can never change a liberal’s mind by using reason or common sense. The advantage to writing the governor would be simply the numbers of letters he receives that might be convincing, but Proposition 8 shows even the numbers are pretty irrevelant. Would Himmler have given a rat’s tail if he had received ardent letters asking that he change his ways? He would have done what NSA is doing and put the writers’ names in computer files that are being kept on prolife ‘terrorists’…naturally. Pro life people simply must come to grips with who they are really dealing with here…this is not rational individual that responds in predictable ways. I think back to the time when my sister was studying to be a nurse and worked in a large mental hospital for several months and her encounters in the psychopath ward were so chilling, and the stories she shared with me remind me of many of the people who now hold high political offices or are CEO’s of large corporations. It’s no accident that it feels like everything has become unreal and on very shaking foundations. They closed the mental hospitals and the patients have become the masters…that’s why homosexuality and other disorders are not considered abnormalities anymore. Go ahead and write to Gov.Brown if you have nothing better to do but prayer and fasting would be much more to the purpose. Our Lady of Wallsingham, pray for us.
Excellent post Dana! Your point about Himmler also ties into the issue of abortion today.
Taken from Wikipedia
“On Hitler’s behalf, Himmler formed the Einsatzgruppen and built extermination camps. As facilitator and overseer of the concentration camps, Himmler directed the killing of some six million Jews, between 200,000 and 500,000 Romani people, and other victims; the total number of civilians killed by the regime is estimated at eleven to fourteen million people. Most of them were Polish and Soviet citizens.”
Mother Teresa said the downfall of America would come through the sin of abortion. When she said this the 30 ft. American flagpole crashed down on the stage at Veteran’s Stadium in Long Beach.
Our nation has turned their backs on the extermination camps that daily murder the unborn. The Himmler’s of today are the political facilitators and overseers of the slaughtering camps who work to keep these extermination camps running. Mother Teresa’s prophetic warning is taking place. You would think that people would not want to repeat history but sadly history is repeating itself.
Thank you Catherine~ and thanks for you insights. Have you seen the video showing the jar of beads representing all the people killed in all American wars, with one little bead representing 3000 people…it was about 3/4 full, and then it shows the jars with beads representing babies aborted…it took I think 9 1/2 jars.
In these very depressing times, I want to tell you all that I met Abbie Johnson at the Shield of Roses Dinner last Friday.
They did not have time for questions and answers, something I always try to insist on whenever I am invited to speak, so I wrote a note to her and asked her what got her and her family to enter the Church, especially in these days of Dolan, Wuerl, etc. etc. ad nauseam. If and when she answers me, I will with her permission post it here. Abbey was a Planned Parenhood Director at one time!
Take heart, God and His Mother are still doing a GREAT job of recruiting!

The only “unnecessary and gratuitous suffering” we bear is that Dr. Miller and the hard hearted folks like him are in any way in charge of the people of California’s health care. However did he get placed in charge of decisions related to life and death?
I say, let’s end his unnecessary and gratuitous suffering by replacing him with someone competent and knowledgeable about life, death, and true healthcare.

Much thanks to the author of this important piece.
Before Hitler initiated his extermination of Jews, there was the methodical mass murder of the feeble minded—all with state approval and physician oversight..
Germans were too intimidated or too timid to speak out—and Jews were next.
Never forget !!!!!
Just do t get so involved with lamenting the past that you forget to cry out against the present.
People need to read the Bible and CCC. Stay close to Jesus.
Faithful Clergy are starting to go underground to survive the persecutions within the Church.
Those of us who are not Clergy – do need to cry out against the against the present.
Wait! I just happened to think (I do that every so often) . Send in Pink post cards (for the ahem, euphamistically symbolic pink slips we all receive from the grim reaper at some point in our lives) with large bold letters VETO AB 2139!
Keep it simple as using words with over two syllables may cause confusion. Dems love catchy one syllable words. War on Women!! Pro-choice! War is peace!! These busy heads are constantly scheming of ways to intrude into our lives but this takes the cake. My priest and family are the only ones who need to know what my choices are. To the government and college lackies who think they know best…MYOB!! You arrogant, interfering nincompoops!
Great idea! I will put the postcard into an envelope, though, in case someone sees the writing on the postcard and “accidentally loses it…”
BTW – What Brown (and the Gaystapo) Wanted – POTUS ‘Down Low’ Soetoro Delivered:
SEE
Since “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” was repealed, male-on-male rape has become epidemic in the U.S. Military.
9/19/14 Mass Resistance
Back in 2010, Congress used a lame-duck session after the elections to overturn “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”, the de facto ban on open homosexual behavior in the US military. Even prominent Republicans caved in.
At the time, US Senator Scott Brown not only voted for it but bragged about voting for it in his television commercials when he ran for re-election.
Later, while running for president, Mitt Romney told reporters that the change was working fine and he would not attempt to reverse it.
MassResistance and others, however, predicted that it would lead to terrible consequences.
This week Bryan Fischer has written a devastating article revealing what the politicians in both parties are afraid to talk about.
https://www.massresistance.org/docs/gen2/14c/rape-in-us-military.html
Good catch Mr. McDermott. I have been seeing plenty of recruiting commercials for all branches of the military lately. I figured that they were running those commercials because they were having trouble meeting recruiting goals and that lifting don’t ask don’t tell had something to do with it. The report that you cited only confirms my suspicions. What is happening in the military is horrible. Like Pope Francis was saying about the abuse of Altar boys, this abuse is like a Satanic black mass. If these guys are getting HIV, they are not only being raped, they are being murdered. The Democratic party is presiding over the murder of those who volunteered to protect this country. I would not fault anyone for engaging in self defense to protect their lives against such aggression.
At one time, when I was in the politically incorrect but militarily prepared military, we had our M1’s with fully loaded clips at the ends of our bunks. We did not have soft cushy beds, we had bunks.
I can only surmise that that was one of the great reasons there weren’t many barrack incidents.

It is obvious that many people have strong beliefs about end of life issues. Yet, this article resurrects all of the old “death panel” conspiracy theories. When you go to the hospital, they ask you for your directives on end of life. When you put your will together, it generally includes your end of life wishes. When you put your trusts together, you generally include your end of life wishes. When you sit down and talk to your kids about end of life, you tell them your wishes. That is all this bill/law is designed to do. It encourages the doctor and the patient to discuss end of life wishes. The U.S. is the only nation in the world where death is considered an option. Look at the money we spend on end of life: It’s not surprising that individuals in their last year of life consume a disproportionate share of medical resources. One percent of the population accounts for 30 percent of the nation’s health care expenditures. Nearly half of those people are elderly.
Medicare, the health insurance program for the elderly, spends nearly 30 percent of its budget on beneficiaries in their final year of life. Slightly more than half of Medicare dollars are spent on patients who die within two months. Good citizens should tell the appropriate people if they want the tubes pulled or not, and when. They should have directives that say they don’t want extra-ordinary efforts taken to keep them alive if it is pretty much a sure thing that they will die. It is irresponsible of a person to not have these discussions with their medical providers and their family. This is not about religion, government conspiracy or anything of the kind. It is about being responsible human beings.
End of life issues are the critical religious and moral responsibility of the individual.
Doctors, insurance companies, and government are not qualified to speak on this topic unless they speak of Heaven, Hell, and – “Thou Shall NOT kill” – God’s Commandment.
Their counsel which may be in serious error based upon their personal beliefs or cost to the government – will cost us all tax dollars. They will charge for their services including moral errors.
Bob One hates the CCC based upon many of his own posts.
Check out paragraphs: ” 2277 Whatever its motives and means, direct euthanasia consists in putting an end to the lives of handicapped, sick, or dying persons. It is morally unacceptable.
Thus an act or omission which, of itself or by intention, causes death in order to eliminate suffering constitutes a murder gravely contrary to the dignity of the human person and to the respect due to the living God, his Creator.
The error of judgment into which one can fall in good faith does not change the nature of this murderous act, which must always be forbidden and excluded.”
Also see paragraphs – #2276- 2279 for further Church teaching including support for palliative care and how it applies.
Make out your own end of life directive in accord with teachings of the Church, not doctors and politicians.
Based upon their own CA State DEMOCRATIC Platform, euthanasia is one of the intrinsic evil goals they support. (Of course, they call it ‘death with dignity’.)
Where are the CA Bishops?
Regarding ABORTION and EUTHANASIA – “Worthiness to Receive Holy Communion – General Principles” – Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict)
https://www.priestsforlife.org/magisterium/bishops/04-07ratzingerommunion.htm
Bob One your support for euthanasia, proves that you are not Catholic, or are a Catholic heretic.
Human life means nothing to you, only cost effectiveness.
I do not support euthanasia, Dottie. What I have in my directives is a statement that I do not want extraordinary steps taken to keep me in a vegetative state. Don’t keep me on life support when I am going to die anyway. That is what responsible people ask for.
Bob, why don’t you leave a living will with Medicare saying do with me as you will? They could start a whole new government program labeled Government Life and Death (G.L.A.D.) for those who want complete cooperative supervision of bureaucrats and death specialists to ease your way into that great pie in the sky via gov.dove.com?
Dana,
Another gem! : )
Dana, do you really believe that a person should have a directive that states that they want everything done to keep them going even after brain death, or when they can only breath on a machine, or that they should want extraordinary steps taken to keep them a vegetable? Really?
Bob One, do not be disingenuous.
Catholics directives should be in accord with the CCC # 2276 – 2279.
Not one Church teaching ever stated that one must be kept going on machines after death.
You are purposely deceitful.
Stop defending the Democrats who wish to take away the rights of the individual and replace it with government dictatorship and killing based upon cost.
These are the same Democrats who want only government insurance (Obamacare) to exist, and then based upon cost take away the right to life.
CCC: “2278 Discontinuing medical procedures that are burdensome, dangerous, extraordinary, or disproportionate to the expected outcome can be legitimate; it is the refusal of “over-zealous” treatment.
Here one does not will to cause death; one’s inability to impede it is merely accepted.
The DECISIONS should be made by the PATIENT if he is competent and able or, if not, by those legally entitled to act for the patient,
whose reasonable will and legitimate interests must always be respected.”
EVERYONE – read paragraphs 2277 – 2279 in the CCC, and make your own official directive accordingly.
Have your directive witnessed.
Give a copy to your Doctor for your medical files, to the hospital if you are going in for illness or surgery, and to any family members whom you designate to make decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so.
In your Directive, be certain to state that you are a Catholic, and want to see a Catholic Priest for the “Annointing of the Sick” (CCC 1499 – 1532).
(This may help Save your Soul.)
The lack of teaching on this by Bishops is a sin of omission.
Bob, I sometimes wonder if we’re even on the same planet, let alone share the same religion! Where do you possibly see in any of my responses that I support a “directive that states that they want everything done to keep them going even after brain death” etc.? Who are you, really? Frankly, I think it’s pointless to try to reason with you as you’re incapable of understanding rudimentary logic or an opposing point of view.
Dana, don’t be disengenuous. Bob One never said that people should give their rights to self determination up to the government. He seems to be advocating advanced directives and POLST forms which are, as OSCAR correctly points out, consistent with the teachings of the Church as witnessed in the CCC.
Jerry Brown is doing more for the Culture of Death than apparently Death Panels Obama himself.
Father karl, His stooges aren’t only running the government, they are running the modern church. They may have the titles and the positions, but they are not true bishops. This is clearly evident when you comprehend “You will know them by their fruits”.
Bishops who DO NOT TEACH (in full accord with the Bible and CCC),
and correct,
and discipline when necessary – are in part responsible for the sins of heretical Catholics, and for the current state of our society.
These Bishops’ sins (omission and commission) include not only advancing (aiding and abetting) mortal sin in society,
but Sacrilege against the Eucharist,
and Scandal for all those they have not properly catechized, and Relativism within the Church.
CCC: 1868 Sin is a personal act. Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them:
– by participating directly and voluntarily in them;
– by ordering, advising, praising, or approving them;
– by not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so;
– by protecting evil-doers.:
CCC: ” 2285 Scandal takes on a particular gravity by reason of the authority of those who cause it or the weakness of those who are scandalized.
It prompted our Lord to utter this curse: “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”
Scandal is grave when given by those who by nature or office are obliged to teach and educate others.
Jesus reproaches the scribes and Pharisees on this account: he likens them to wolves in sheep’s clothing.”
CCC: ” 2286 Scandal can be provoked by laws or institutions, by fashion or opinion.
Therefore, they are guilty of scandal who establish laws or social structures leading to the decline of morals and the corruption of religious practice,
or to “social conditions that, intentionally or not, make Christian conduct and obedience to the Commandments difficult and practically impossible.”
This is also true of business leaders who make rules encouraging fraud, teachers who provoke their children to anger,
or manipulators of public opinion who turn it away from moral values.”
