On January 19 pro-lifers will join together for the Walk for Life San Diego. The event will begin at 9:00 AM at the city’s Balboa Park, at the corner of 6th Avenue and Laurel Street. The master of ceremonies will be pro-life hero Walter Hoye, best known for being imprisoned for passing out leaflets in front of an Oakland, California abortion business. Hoye’s conviction was later overturned.
Rallies and speeches will take place both before and after the Walk. The invocation will be given by Father Nabil Mouannes, a Maronite Catholic priest. Father Mouannes serves as pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary Maronite Church in Carmichael, California. Until earlier this year he was serving as pastor of St. Ephrem in El Cajon. On September 8, 2008, San Diego’s then-auxiliary bishop, Salvatore Cordileone, joined Father Mouannes at St. Ephrems for a rosary procession and Mass for the protection of life. Father Mouannes is also active in the 40 Days for Life campaign.
Other clergy joining Father Mouannes on the podium will be Jim Garlow, lead pastor of the Skyline Church in La Mesa. Skyline Church is a member of the Wesleyan denomination and has an average weekly attendance of 2,500 persons. In addition to his support of the unborn, Garlow is known for his support of natural marriage, and is a leader in the Pulpit Initiative movement, which encourages pastors to speak out on moral issues.
The benediction will be given by Pastor Matthew Richardt, of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Escondido. Pastor Richardt has been active in the 40 Days for Life campaign, and Gloria Dei Lutheran helps support the Alternatives Women’s Center, a pro-life crisis pregnancy center in Escondido.
Lay speakers include Charmaine Yoest of Americans United for Life; sidewalk counselor Roger Lopez; Leslie Brunolli, the San Diego regional coordinator of the Silent No More campaign; and Dr. George Delgado, medical director of Culture of Life Family Services. Women who have faced crisis pregnancies will be represented.
Exhibitors at the rally will include John Paul the Great Catholic University, The Ruth Institute, the Issues4Life Foundation, a number of organization which help women in crisis pregnancies, and 40 Days for Life.

Compare this wonderful work of true saints-in-the-making, lead by Rev. Hoye, to poor Bishop Soto, leading an “interfaith service” (?what is that?) that honors evildoers like Speaker Perez. Why not just come out now, American Bishops, and say that you all love whatever Obama and his mortal sin enablers want to do. It is not Catholic priests and bishops that are coming up with public ideas to embarrass and confront evil. How about that “Pulpit Initiative” of Rev. Garlow. Imagine a Catholic priest or bishop actually speaking out against “moral issues” from the pulpit. First of all, if a priest did that, as did that terrific priest Robert Rodriguez (TX) who spoke out against homosexual couple issues and was silenced by his bishop, or the priest that refused communion to an outspoken lesbian at the funeral of her mother, with the priest being attacked by Cardinal Wuerl. Nope, Catholic priests in the “Church of Nice” (thanks to Michael Voris for that) are, in the main, all about being Protestants, without moral portfolio (and public embarrassment as in, “are you really against gay people” and “do you really believe that a woman does not own her own body” — stuff like that which appear to stymie priests when confronted with these type of questions). Perhaps Rev. Hoye could be made the head of the “Office of Bishops” — then it would be something.
I don’t want to compare anything like that, it only brings more grief to my aching heart.
But I do rejoice for the good that others are doing.
I pray that each and every person treats each day like it was their last day on earth….perhaps then we would learn to better listen to Christ speaking to us. Perhaps we would hear the heartbeat of an unborn child and not ever take it for granted..for life is precious.
There is a group here in RI called Silent No More Awareness.org composed of those that have had abortions and anyone affected by abortion.
Praise for all groups who speak and act in the fight against abortion-
the killing of innocent human babies.
This came to me while praying the Rosary this Saturday in front of Planned Barenhood, Anaheim, CA. It came to me after we were once again assaulted by foul mouthed drivers-by who use the f and u words.
You never hear of pro-life drivers by using foul language when they drive by killing centers!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
You certainly could not have picked a better emcee and uniter in the faith than the Reverend Walter Hoye for your San Diego Walk for Life. Here is a man who was persecuted and imprisoned for righteousness on behalf of his love of the unborn child and its mother. A voice for our turbulent times. I will pray for Walter Hoye that he may inspire many, many voices to speak up on behalf of the unborn child in this nation.
Yes I join you in prayer too….Praise Jesus Christ!
Father Mouannes was our pastor that was moved to Sacramento. We miss him and are glad of the great news that he will be there. Father Nabil Mouannes is from our Marionrite church.
This is great news. Praise God!
Hooray this is coming up…….please keep this in your prayers. God bless you!
