The following comes from a January 21 email from Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust:
Hello, I have some sad and shocking news and an urgent request!
One Life LA (the Los Angeles California version of the March for Life) has slammed the door on the parental notification petition.
One Life LA has said no – not just once but three times:
- No! You may not set up a table to have people sign petitions for the
biggest life-saving opportunity on the California horizon. - No! We will not encourage people to help from the rally speaker’s podium.
- No! We will not even allow you to be in the permitted
square with clip boards to gather signatures.
When asked “why,” Kevin, second in command, stated: “We’re about saving lives.” The irony of that statement is mind boggling!
So what are those who love life and are working – not just marching – for Life to do? Stay home? Ignore the single greatest opportunity to meet with like-minded people and encourage them to do a simple but effective life-saving act?
Oh we could just ignore the life-killing edict and rush on in to the permitted area and face arrest! Believe me, there were several suggestions to do just that!
But once again I say no.
This isn’t about One Life LA and their Hollywood Star line-up. It is about an opportunity to save lives. This is about getting Parental Notification onto the ballot and saving tens of thousands of babies’ lives.
So here is the plan:
We will be meeting on the sidewalk outside the plaza. We will be distributing petition packs to everyone we can as they approach the plaza. This is within 1st amendment guidelines.
Right now it is about the babies and saving their lives by getting this petition on the ballot.
Will you help us distribute these petitions? Do you mind not being a part of the party and just working to save lives on the sidelines of One Life LA?
The Survivors will be meeting at: 526 N. Main St. at crosswalk at Paseo De La Plaza (look for the Survivors banner)
Come join us as we stand in the gap vacated by One Life LA. The babies need you this Saturday!
Whatever your plans were — I hope you will adjust them just as I have mine and counter the One Life LA’s decision to turn their backs on the preborn in this critical hour.
We can do it. Please join us this Saturday!
If you wish to donate to help make these efforts possible – we thank you. Just click here.
See you at One Life LA – hopefully in person. Pray for the Survivors as we respectfully refuse to stop advocating for the preborn and circulating this petition.

What a sad news story! For myself, over the years, I have been frustrated and upset, participating in pro-life activities, because the cause of abortion is often forbidden by group leaders, to discuss– PROMISCUITY and LACK OF PROPER CHRISTIN MORAL TRAINING!! If all the churches once again preached, lived, and expected CHASTITY of all who are not married, and GOT RID OF THE SEXUAL REVOLUTION AMONG CHURH-GOERS AND CLERGY — then, some progress would be made! Everyone should be taught, sex outside marriage is a MORTAL SIN —and all sexual sins are MORTAL!! Furthermore, birth control and abortion– are MORTAL SINS, and ABORTION is MURDER!
Linda Maria think capital letters are the answer to everything, but if this story is true, and I have no reason to dispelieve it, then there are some very dysfunctional elements within the pro-life movement.
Anonymous, do you ever write with capital letters, when the space is brief for expressing yourself, on a very intense, emotional subject?? In this case– I think I would say that pro-lifers are not really “dysfunctional,” I think they are TOO YOUNG!! Bless them! Many are not even OLD ENOUGH TO VOTE!! Our true leaders, should be the CLERGY!! And all of our BEST laymen elders, all across the country! After Vatican II, the Council Fathers forbade clergy leadership (considered “domineering”) , in favor of the laymen, as much as possible! Plus– how many of our clergy, are true followers of Christ??
Maybe having a group with baby skeletons as their logo may offend some? And the Gospel says to go where you are welcomed…maybe this group could find another place? …or, not use its time to attack another pro life group (in this case I think they are attacking the Catholic Church, which sponsors the event)?
Mr. Six Pack,
While I understand your comment, the great Catholic writer Flannery O’Connor noted that “for the almost blind we need to draw large and startling images.” As you know anything whatever offends someone or other. The question is whether there are good grounds to be offended. Lastly, one does not attack the Catholic Church if one calls into question the public relations strategy of a particular agency at a particular event.
That is so, so sad! Why listen to speakers, but not act concretely to protect the most vulnerable?! Let us pray that the Archdiocese, the Knights of Columbus, the St. Vincent de Paul Society and other sponsors work to ensure that such never happens again. How could someone simply signing their name for parental notification (not even consent!) be so objectionable?! Lord, have mercy on us all! And, God bless the Survivors and the good work they do.
Boy, what a debut for “One Life LA”! I fear it’ll be a long time before legal protection is restored to the unborn if it’s left up to them. At least this spurning of the “Parental Notification” drive should expose the utter nuttiness that pervades the thinking of the movement. It is the old seamless garment, washed and pressed and back in use again. It is an attempt to manipulate the pro life movement from without, by dissipating its resources in a host of different directions. Why should the pro life movement – a movement dedicated to dealing with abortion and its satellite problem (like infanticide, assisted suicide euthanasia etc) be expected to champion any causes other than what its founders intended it to champion? They will…
say that the Catholic Church should be involved in fighting every evil. She should and she is to varying degrees. But Catholics in the pro life movement who want to join the fight against poverty, for example, can join organizations devoted to that purpose. They should not try to co-opt the pro life movement. Our people must not fall for that ruse.
This distresses me beyond words. The Church of Nice strikes again. When OneLife LA first began as a counter-event to the West Coast Walk for Life I had my doubts. Now those doubts are confirmed. You won’t see me there.
And I wouldn’t bother to go to this seamless garment festival either! Throwing all “social justice” issues into one bag does not make them all equal because they are not. Too bad Archbishop Gomez does not see it that way.
This makes no sense – unless there is more to the story ( or the relationships) than is being presented. Was there simply a place to sign petitions, or was there a clash of Styles and Images used to encourage agreement – either by insiders or outsiders watching the display?
Regardless:

The Walks for Life are useless—and the organizers know it, but they continue because there is money and profit. Major media never covers it and the average voter and the average Catholic know nothing baout it because the so-called leadership is unwilling to make a real significant challenge to the Democrat Party, the official Party of Death.
I agree. It is Obama’s fault that nobody knows about the Walk for Life. He is personally is to blame.
The Walks for Life are not useless, they are really one of the few places, where people can receive some moral and religious EDUCATION– that a baby’s life is PRECIOUS, and it is EVIL, a TERRIBLE CRIME— to kill a miracle of God, an unborn baby, in its mother’s womb! The clergy, since Vatican II– are NOT doing their daily work, of Catholic moral and religious education, as they used to! And the Godless, hedonistic, money-hungry, “me, me, me-Generation”–oriented media, — DELIBERATELY refuse to cover the pro-life news stories, as much as possible! There is NO financial nor personal gain, either, for pro-life work! At times, you may RISK YOUR LIFE, for this loving work!
Now I have heard it all!!!
We don’t know what the city allowed, yes the city of LA can reject such a openly positive event, in order to be hosted. It may have called for no political or petitions to be held. Or, the Archdiocese may not want to engage, or appear to engage in any type of politics that targets a law, or group, etc. At any rate, I attended the OneLIfe Event, and while standing in the plaza, an man walked about and threw Pro death books toward us, at our feet. We picked them up, and threw them in the trash. Then there were “Bernie for Prez” people shouting to vote for him and passing out leaflets..I did accept the petition pack. But please don’t use this site to express your dismay. I was very encouraged by the Bishops and those around me, and the…
It was a wonderful event. Thousands attended. I think the issue with the petition probably had to do with permits (others wanted to share their pro-life ballot measures and get petitions signed and they were not allowed). The last thing you want is for a city to shut down an event.
