The following comes from an Apr. 3 release issued by Alumni for a Catholic USD.
The Vatican’s Congregation for Education has weighed in supporting local Catholics who believe that it is a scandal and damaging for a Catholic university to host a drag show.
The official letter stating the position came from the Pontifical congregation whose subject matter jurisdiction includes houses of formation and institutions including universities.
This came as a result of two concerned San Diegans who filed petitions last year with Church authorities asking them to review the situation and, if appropriate, intervene to stop and denounce the event which has become a yearly practice at the University of San Diego since 2012.
Attorney Charles LiMandri, who founded the website www.AlumniforaCatholicUSD.org,
collaborated with Thomas McKenna, founder and president of Catholic Action for Faith and Family. They both filed canonical petitions in the wake of the Drag Superstar 2 event held on the University of San Diego campus in April 2013.
The two got involved when students from the university, who objected to the show, reached out and asked for their support to stop it. Charles LiMandri, an alumni and past president of the USD Alumni Association, initially contacted the university asking them to stop the show. He pointed out that “it was not in line with Catholic principles nor the Catholic values and vision of the university’s founders.” When the administration defended the drag show and said it would go ahead, he turned to other alumni and publicly denounced it.
Following the drag show in 2012, the petitioners went to Rome and consulted with Vatican officials from various Congregations and were encouraged to pursue this action. After the Supreme Drag Show 2 in 2013, they made their case providing extensive and well documented exhibits. “The Vatican personnel viewed the case very seriously and had their experts review the material as well” McKenna stated.
In an official response from the university in 2013 to the petitioners’ request that the show be stopped, the university stated: “The event supports the Church’s teaching on the innate dignity of the human person, and by illustrating cross-dressing, it does not promote either behavior or lifestyle that is contrary to the teachings of the Church.”
After attending both drag shows together with students Thomas McKenna said: “I witnessed many examples of behavior and statements on moral issues which contradicted or ignored magisterial teachings.” Not only was the Catholic Church’s teaching ignored, but it was mocked.
In response to McKenna and LiMandri, the Congregation stated that: “ in view of the gravity of the case, it is worth mentioning that in light of the show and the scandal that it caused, this congregation intends to act through administrative channels to the competent ecclesiastical authority in San Diego.”
LiMandri and McKenna said they were making the Congregation’s determination known publicly, after consulting with Vatican officials this week, due to the fact that a third drag show is scheduled for April 10, 2014.

Petitions filed following event in April, 2013. Prior event occurred in April, 2012. A year drags on (unintended pun). Another event scheduled for April, 2014. In the interim, an utterly ineffective and impotent Vatican bureaucracy finally replies to the diligent work of McKenna, LiMandri, et al, saying they are “on the job” now (“the congregation intends to act through administrative channels to the competent ecclesiastical authority..”) Really? Where have they been the two years?
This is like [the movie and novel] Pascali’s Island: the agent of the Pasha (Ben Kinglsey) dutifully, daily, is sending in his reverent and obsequious reports to the Pasha, warning of the ominous incursions and manueverings he sees unfolding against the structures of the Ottoman Empire—and what? Does anything really happen? Is anyone even reading his reports, he wonders? Don’t they care what is happening?
Forgive one’s well-warranted pessimism, but nothing will happen— beyond, maybe, some cosmetic re-arrangements of personnel. Academic freedom, you know. Wink-wink.
Now, if they were the Franciscans of Mary Immaculate — watch what would happen!
The answer is entirely documented in Our Lady of Akita’s message to Sr. Agnes Katsuko Sasegawa in 1973.
If you want them to respond more spritely, perhaps you should pay more taxes.
I will acknowledge that it was a “polite” comment, however, since he first prefaced his comment with the word “perhaps”. :(
I see your point. The Vatican’s Congregation for Education sounds like typical modern bureaucracy. Still, it’s the first time I’ve seen a Catholic school being taken to task for a scandal by an agency from outside its walls. Reaction to the most vile exhibitions of hedonism usually consist of a few protest letters from upset readers, or parents, or alumni, to the president of the institution, which are easily brushed aside and forgotten. This action by these two men may help to serve notice on the more egregious institutions that if they fail to police themselves, they can expect interference from the official teaching authorities of the Church, who, hopefully will be effective. If we can get more Charles LiMandris and Thomas McKennas in other schools to take similar action, it may knock some sense into the heads of said institutions.
If you were a Vatican employee, what would you do ? Jump on a plane and ask for a meeting with University management ? And what else after that ?
Better ask yourself what did you do to prevent it, in first place?
I am very glad to read this. My son was looking at a different Catholic college and we found a video on Youtube of it’s drag show. It wasn’t just cross dressing. It was really raunchy.
And you know we’re in the tank when if a Catholic school sponsored an event that was “just” cross dressing, that would be O.K.
It is not OK!
I have an examination of conscience with an imprimatur from the Bishop of Minneapolis-St. Paul which says that transvestism or cross-dressing is a MORTAL SIN.
Recognize sarcasm when you see it, do you?
Whoever gives an imprimateur saying that cross dressing is a mortal sin is truly a looney bishop who might need some serious examination of his own conscience.
Here is a story about that bishop and the priest who wrote the examination of conscience. The booklet was published in 2002 by Leaflet Missal Company
https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?recnum=6846
And you continue to call yourself “Your Fellow Catholic?” My true fellow Catholics do not predictably stand up for anti-Catholic values. They may stray from Church teachings but are not anti-Catholics pretending to be my fellow Catholics.
God through Moses gave the commandment against cross dressing for illicit reasons. Certainly there are times when a man or woman might have to put on a piece of clothing of the opposite sex and customs about pants and robes do change, but a person with common sense knows the difference between one who cross dresses to deceive others into thinking they are what they are not for sexual purposes and one who must put on male like armor in battle, etc. Too many people now do not have ay “common sense”; many times because they do not want it.
YFC, sin is that which offends God. We know from Scripture that “A woman shall not wear an article proper to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s dress; for anyone who does such things is an abomination to the Lord, your God.” There are so many sins that we as humans can hardly avoid committing-sins of the tongue and anger and other bad thoughts. Some things are so easily avoided that one has to go out of one’s way to commit that sin. Why blow the easy stuff?
Maryanne Leonard, I can’t even figure out what the catholic value is that you are promoting, honestly I cannot! It appears to me rigidity for the sake of rigidity to cultural norms, not any value that I recognize anywhere in Scripture or Tradition! Enlighten me please!
Anne T.: What??? Do you really believe that a drag show is an attempt to deceive? Really? It’s called a drag show for a reason!!! It is telling you that those who identify as males will appear dressed as females and females as males. Thus from the get-go, they are not deceiving, they are telling you the truth!!
Please enlighten me as to where does “God through Moses” prohibits drag shows. Please, I want to see it for myself.
Anonymous: I actually had to look up that reference, as it is so obscure I had forgotten it a long time ago. So are you sure you want to impose the Dueteronimical code upon all of us? Where would you like for me to begin? Have you shaved your beard lately????
Why blow off the easy stuff? So you wear only woolen garments, or only cotton? or flax? And :your: god forbid that we blow off cotton/polyester blends.
cross-dressing is a MORTAL SIN for many good reasons, one of many good examples, it is because it goes against modesty, chastity.
2 Timothy 3:14-17
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it
15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
amen to that!!!
Since the bishops haven’t had the gumption and backbone to act, it looks like it’s up to the laity and the Vatican to act. Hooray! Perhaps we can get the CINO colleges and universities to clean up their acts this way – the bishops have been worthless.
What in God’s name could possibly delude the university into thinking that allowing such perverted garbage to infect the campus would bring dignity to the human person? Is it any wonder that so many have left the faith when even so-called Catholic schools have joined the lemmings going down that path that is wide and easy but leads to destruction, let alone spit in the faces of the students who have been faithful?
Is there any spitting going on? Where is that alledged?
YFC, perhaps you would be kind enough to divulge why you apparently chose to interpret, Bakersfield Crusader’s final comment literally, rather than as a metaphor. :(
WELL, for one, referring to people as garbage, as you do, dear Bakersfield “crusader”, probably does nothing to promote human dignity. Referring to people as garbage is actually the opposite of promoting their dignity.
Your fellow Catholic-I would not refer to anyone as “garbage” but do you agree that they are poor souls in need of redemption. As Catholics, our main goal is to become Saints and to help others become Saints.
Joanie, no I don’t think drag shows imperil anyone’s soul. These folks are no more and no less in need of redemption than you or me.
You are right in that we are all in need of redemption, YFC. But trying to put off a drag show as being harmlessly entertaining at a Catholic School in a culture where the specific hot button is the attempt to promote sodomy is disingenuous to say the least.
But go ahead and cling to the ‘but there’s nothing wrong with it….” argument. Like pushing Joe Camel cartoons to kids whose parents are increasingly dying of lung cancer. That’s really Christian!
AM really? The Gospel message says nothing about fashion, so far as I know, except when Jesus orders “And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing. 3And He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have two tunics apiece. ” Yet your obsession with anything remotely gay causes you to ignore his words and pretend that Jesus cares about things he obviously does not.
If one really wants to get upset about the sinfulness of what one wears, perhaps we need to have a discussion about the thousands of dollars some Catholics spend on a single suit or dress. Obsess a little less about silly things like drag shows, and a little more about the call to live a simple life in Christ.
You think cross dressing is “remotely” gay? That’s a good one. As for obsessions, you may wish to begin by examining your obvious fixation with being obtuse.
Our Lord didn’t say anything specifically about phone sex or sexting or computer porn either, but one could hardly posit that He has no thoughts on the issue. Sorry if that’s a distraction from real life issues for you.
You are spot on, however, about the ridiculous waste of overpriced clothing – I shop second hand usually. But CCD is addressing the very absurd contradiction of having a drag show on a Catholic School Campus. And in light of the rampant push for elevating sodomy to be nothing but a ‘thang,’ there is even more urgency for getting this kind of smarm away from our youth.
It is sad to me that you don’t get the concepts at play here. You say that “Our Lord didn’t say anything specifically about phone sex or sexting or computer porn either”. This is true, he did not. Had he said anything about them, do you think his disciples would have written it down, knowing as he would have that they had no idea what a computer was? It is ridiculous, isn’t it??? Jesus surely knew about texting and computer technologies, but he didn’t expect his disciples to understand technologies that would appear only 20 centuries later.
Was cross dressing a technology that only appeared 20 centuries later? Of course not!!!! Men could dress as women in his day and the apostles would have understood and recorded those references in what became the scriptures. Where does Jesus remark about the dress code of his disciples, except that they should be few and simple??
And a TUNIC….If I walked through USD in a Roman tunic, I’m pretty sure folks were thinking I was in drag.
Get off this notion that whether one wears men’s or women’s clothing is somehow gay or sinful. I’m gay and I never dress in drag, and the idea that cross dressing is even venially sinful is so ridiculous that you just make the Church appear obsessed with trivialities that have zero consequence for anyone’s life, wellbeing, or spiritual fate. If God is that trivial, I think most folks think, then God had better get a life. And so, we risk turning folks off to God when we make him a God concerned about trivialities. Indeed, a trivial God is not a god to be followed.
God bless the Vatican for taking a position against lying to youth about what is appropriate Catholic behavior and/or entertainment. We don’t want to risk turning folks off from the Truth which is God by continuing to speak out both sides of our mouths.
The Crusader referred to the performance as garbage. The people he referred to as lemmings. The spitting was likely a reference to rhetorical spit.
No let’s be clear: Crusader referred to people “infecting” a campus. Not a performance. He referred to people as garbage that infects. That CCD allows people to be referred to in this way is disgusting.
Why keep casing on CCD, YFC? CCD is reporting the reality of what’s going on out there. SOMEBODY has to. As for ‘infecting’ a campus. If you were adamant about your health and somebody kept coming to your front door to cough on you, most especially if you had your own children in the house who were particularly vulnerable when taken ill, you likely wouldn’t even answer your door.
Why? Because they do not seek to be healed, but rather to cough and go.
True, the people at the door are people. They deserve respect. But so, YFC, do you as your rights to protect yourself and your children. But whereas you do not seem to believe the promotion of the homosexual lifestyle is damaging, others who hold to Biblical and natural principles do. Respect them and kindly transmit the message of mutual respect to those who would push their agenda like fascist militants demanding acceptance while giving none.
Thanks for the support, Brian. I suspect YFC knew that but he/she just had to be a wise guy/gal. The bottom line is that USD needs to live up to its Catholic identity, and putting on a drag show does nothing to achieve that, nor are there any redeeming qualities or educational benefits from doing so. I say strip it of its Catholic identity until it starts acting like the Catholic institution it’s supposed to be.
The “bottom line”, Dear Bakersfield Crusader, is that you are obligated to stand up for human dignity and not treat human beings like garbage.
YFC humans who dress like this have given up their human dignity and for the sake of all common good, caring for human dignity is to stop this nonsense of cross dressing! It is actually dragging the dignity of a soul. Garbage is what it is. Since you brought up the treatment of garbage…well that is what they are doing treating their temple, the body and soul, as garbage by cross dressing. You should do a quick study on modesty and being chaste of body and mind and you will see how these very actions of cross dressing offend every aspect of human dignity! It brings scandal and ridicule to the human soul and being! Its offends God because He is pure.
Its definitely a disorder! An unhealthy mental state of mind to want to flaunt one self in such attire and attitude, bet the devil loves this distortion of the human body!
YFC, please re-read Bakersfield’s words before you lash out in your typical accusatory tone. He was suggesting that the “actions” of these individuals are “perverted garbage”.
But that is not what he said. An action is not something you can put into a garbage can, is it? Garbage is a noun, so any metaphors he used must also reference a noun. An action, is by definition, a verb, not a noun. So I leave it to you to figure out whether there were any other nouns that his metaphor may refer. The only noun that garbage can refer to are people, in his posting. And people, if one treats them with dignity, can never be described as garbage.
Their actions can be garbage.
From the dictionary: ” anything that is contemptibly worthless, inferior, or vile: There’s nothing but garbage on TV tonight.”
Actions are nouns or verbs.
Go back to school.
Its a good thing that many people see this for what it really is…Garbage role playing and indecent! There is hope, that not all mankind has gone bad, that good is still defending what is good, true and holy.
I just don’t get it nor will I ever understand why anyone would defend this type of behavior. Its more appalling that what is suppose to be a Catholic school, that should know better, is allowing it. One thing for sure is that sin is the reason this is happening. No wonder our Lord was beaten, whipped etc etc so severely because of our sins, our sins can blind us severely that it will take our Lord’s passion to undue all the harm we permit!
Bakersfield Crusader is more than likely talking about their actions as garbage and they are. At least that is what I thought he meant.
YFC, I have a question for you with regards to your April 3, 2014, 9:51 pm post concerning the “promotion of human dignity”. Do you hold the view that an individual is incapable of UNDERMINING his/her OWN “human dignity”?
no
Amen!
Through my fault my “Amen” post came out in the wrong place. It was meant in reply to Bakersfield Crusader’s post on April 3 at 6:26 pm, and I assume he meant by the word “garbage” the actions of the drag performers.
By the way, if the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence wouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a Catholic Church (except the heretical one in San Francisco), what makes the university think it’d be kosher to degrade the faith by putting on this kind of filth?
Since this is not a university operated by a religious order, I hope we won’t see the usual “But the bishop’s power is limited over this….” He’s on the Board and should be aware of what’s happening.
Any one who states the Diocese Bishop has no authority/responsibility within his own Diocese for Catholic Colleges and Universities is a liar.
Do not let ignorant Diocese Staff or other persons get away with falsehoods.
Code of Canon Law –
– – – “Can. 808 Even if it is in fact Catholic, no university is to bear the title or name of Catholic university without the consent of competent ecclesiastical authority.”
The Bishop has the authority to have the name ‘Catholic’ removed from University ir College advertising if appropriate.
– – – “Can. 810 §1. The authority competent according to the statutes has the duty to make provision so that teachers are appointed in Catholic universities who besides their scientific and pedagogical qualifications are outstanding in integrity of doctrine and probity of life and that they are removed from their function when they lack these requirements; the manner of proceeding defined in the statutes is to be observed.”
– – – “Can. 812 Those who teach theological disciplines in any institutes of higher studies whatsoever must have a mandate from the competent ecclesiastical authority.”
In addition please see: “APOSTOLIC CONSTITUTION OF THE SUPREME PONTIFF JOHN PAUL II ON CATHOLIC UNIVERSITIES”.

Both the past and present bishops (Brom and Flores) were and are well aware of the pro-homosexual rot at USD, which has been going on for approximately 20 years. I begged Bishop Brom countless times to strip USD of its false “Catholic” label, but he did nothing. Bishop Flores has been aware of USD’s heresy since he arrived in San Diego as coadjutor two years ago, but so far, he hasn’t made any concrete or discernible moves to clean up USD, nor do I expect him to. The local faithful laity are beyond fed up with USD masquerading as a “Catholic” school while it promotes everything antithetical to perennial Church doctrine–and we are nearly as fed up with our “shepherd” who allow the students there to be fed to the wolves.
Not good enough! The Vatican really needs to CARE enough, to do its daily job, of running the Church, and all Church endeavors– schools, colleges, charities, hospitals, etc.– properly, according to Church rules, as set forth in Canon Law! With no excuses! And no apologies or compromises, to the hideous, godless filthy people, who do evil! Otherwise, the Church will obviously fail! Period! Millions of people suffer, including poor Catholic school children and college students, as well as seminarians– because the church fails to do her job!
The Laity is doing its required job when they contact the appropriate Diocese Bishop and/or Vatican as needed.
This is not only a right, but an obligation.
UNDER – “Rights and Obligations of ALL the Christian Faithful” – Code of Canon Law
Can “212 §3. According to the knowledge, competence, and prestige which they possess, they have the right and even at times the duty to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church
and to make their opinion known to the rest of the Christian faithful,
without prejudice to the integrity of faith and morals, with reverence toward their pastors, and attentive to common advantage and the dignity of persons.”
Diocese Bishops have a required responsibility for everything “Catholic” within their own Diocese. This includes but is not limited to Schools, Colleges, Universities, Hospitals and every organization that advertises itself as “Catholic”.
Re: Catholic Education see Code of Canon Law: 793-821
https://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/_INDEX.HTM
Respectfully let the Bishop know that we expect him to uphold our Faith, and we will support him in this effort. Bishops are not mind-readers and don’t know everything that goes on within his Diocese, therefore provide appropriate documentation.
Where in the creed do we proclaim that drag shows are something that jesus ever cared about? Really you folks need to get a life if you think that a person in a dress is anything but a bit of gender bending fun.
The “fun” indeed is referred to in the parts of the Creed about believing in God and the holy Catholic Church. I don’t think either would have a sense of humor about God’s creation being mocked in such a perverted manner, one that brings Sodom and Gomorrah and their ensuing demise to mind.
When Milton Berle did it, it was for fun. Context matters.
Drag queens are doing it for fun too. The whole point is to be as over the top as possible. It’s not gender identity. It’s theater.
Comidia ‘del arte.
And Hugh, I would imagine performing an over-the-top drag show on a Catholic Campus that is supposed to teach Catholic Values but isn’t – squeal – adds a big, fat dollop of farcical fun on top. Oh, the delicioso hypocrisy of performing in front of those strapping young college co-eds who should be embracing purity. Fun? You bet!
Funny? No.
Milton Berle did it for money, honey. I would not presume that it did not offend the Lord.
Desensitizing YOUTH against morality or moral sexual behavior at a Catholic school, college, or university –
Mt 18:6-7 ” but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”
“Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the man by whom the temptation comes! ” – JESUS.
(This is not an off campus decadent cabaret. If you want decadence, do not go to a Catholic school.)
The Church teaches on Faith and Morals.
Boys should taught to be men. Women should be taught to be women.
Cross dressers are very demeaning to women, especially when they dress or act provocatively.
Everything must be taken in context.
Timing is everything in comedy, Anonymous. I doubt the movie Airplane would have gone over as a laugh riot on 9/11 much like a fat joke to a woman 9.5 months pregnant. So let’s cut the ‘gender bending fun’ lie.
Annoymous, a actor dressing in drag just to be funny or a person in danger of his/her life and is hiding from the murderers is one thing, and those who dress in drag to mock Church teaching, or be risqué or to fool other people into thinking they are the opposite sex for illicit purposes is quite another. Just the name of “The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” should clue you in on what they believe and the way they act. Risque shows of any kind, whether heterosexual or homosexual do not belong in a Catholic church, church hall or at a Catholic college.
And such things as fashion shows should not have women in them with shorts or skirts almost up to their buttocks or their bosoms showing. Ordinary street clothing for ordinary people of different ages should be what is shown. Evening gowns should not be too revealing. Quite frankly, I prefer all such activities be left off of church grounds and religious movies and plays be shown.
Possibly if by necessity, as in having nothing else to wear it may be permissible. There is no difference between you giving a pass to an actor dressing in drag just to be funny and the university allowing it for educational purposes. It does not need to be risqué to be wrong. You are making the same mistake. You are inventing your own moral code. You cannot make a bad action good by intention.
Mary Lyons is the head of this modern Gomorrah.
Not caring much about true Catholic Faith and morals, Lyons has created a theology department that is homosexual.
Any Catholic parent who sends a child to USD and pays the outrageous tuition because this place still advertizes as a Catholic school, must be devoid of reason.
Forget the Vatican! Where is the Bishop? Where is the Bishop hiding? He needs Rome to do his job?
Obviously not doing his required job per Code of Canon Law.
Or no one has taken the time to notify him.
We have this and far worse happening at the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University in Minnesota, two schools whose Catholic ethos is in full collapse.
In central Minnesota, we need our bishop to act, but has not thus far, nor did the previous. We also have St. John’s Abbey, which is what started the problem. These monks are famous for leftist theology, liturgical abuse, and sexual misconduct that has left over 200 victims in the wake. We need the Vatican to investigate and shut down this scene so the schools can heal, and become eventually more fully Catholic.
I know this is not a Catholic University, and not even one of the “great” universities, but … What if our Catholic Universities were this explicit in what their religious role should be.
Mission Statement
In partnership with the Church, the purpose of William Jessup University is to prepare Christians for leadership and service in church and society, through Christian higher education, spiritual formation, and directed experiences.
Vision Statement
The William Jessup University vision is that our graduates will be transformed and will help redeem world culture by providing notable servant leadership; by enriching family, church and community life; and by serving with distinction in their chosen career.
Their website lists their creed right up front. Most of our Catholic colleges and universities take the “oh by the way, we are a school in the catholic tradition.” What if they said they were a Catholic college or university that also had a good academic program?
Why don’t more Catholics support the other San Diego-based Catholic university, John Paul the Great Catholic University?! Here’s a Newman Guide school, which clearly strives to be a faithfully Catholic university. These guys have established themselves, are clearly here to stay, and are doing great work especially in communications media, business, and theology. It’s really a shame that so many people expend so much energy and time trying to bring incremental change at a school that lost its Catholic identity long ago. The drag show is just the tip of the iceberg–and even getting that cancelled is going to take a ridiculous amount of effort. Why fight so hard for one minor victory when John Paul the Great Catholic University has so much more to offer?! Now that Bl. John Paul II is about to be canonized it’s time to shift our attention to an institution that is trying so hard to honor his memory and implement his vision for Catholic education in Ex Corde Ecclesiae. Calling on all concerned Catholics… they need your help!
Amen to that! I have watched my Alma Mater go down the drain for years! It’s disgusting to me that so many alums must contribute and have no idea of what’s happening there. Yes indeed, where is the bishop?! What this school once was and is now is like night and day. The founders must be rolling over in their graves!
The question is more precisely, why don’t more Catholics support any of the Newman Guide schools, but they they don’t. That is the problem. We warned a neighbor about USD before they sent their daughter there years ago, and got nothing but a glare in return. The Catholic mainstream in this country are sitting ducks for university propaganda falsely claiming Catholic identity. These people don’t recognize the problem or the stakes and they don’t want to. In short, they operate on a very low Catholic voltage, so to speak. There is no passion for the faith, and they view anything problematic as ‘negative’ or ‘divisive.’ Many are blocked by their own sins against sexual morality. Additionally, as for the Newman Colleges, these people see no value whatsoever in a small and comparatively young institution for their children’s education, which in many cases, has a limited track record of placing kids into employment after graduation.
The bishops and priests need to preach from the pulpit with more conviction and encourage parents to follow the guidelines from the Newman guide. I know that many good parents who do care, actually do own a copy and encourage their children to use the guide!
The ratio of student populations at the mainstream Catholic colleges versus the Newman Guide colleges is probably more than 20 to 1. Children don’t “use” the Newman Guide. It’s up to parents to make the final call on where a kid will attend school. Therefore, it’s up to the parents to use it. But nobody is going to suddenly decide when their child is in the 12th grade to then pick a faithful college. For example, the Newman Guide colleges attract a much higher percentage of homeschoolers than the mainstream colleges, and in fact former homeschoolers may even constitute the majority of their students. This isn’t about preaching from the pulpit at parishes where homeschoolers are often shunned; this is about a total conversion and commitment to the Catholic faith and rejection of mainstream cultural values as a foundational family matter. These drag shows are going on at all sorts of schools, not just USD. Santa Clara is another mainstream California “Catholic” school which proudly holds a drag show every year. This problem doesn’t get fixed with a bandaid. IMO, these schools should all be stripped of their official Catholic designations, and the facade dispensed with. Then a few people might (and that’s a big if) start thinking a little more seriously about what’s really going on at these places.
I suppose but what I do hold as truth is that I am grateful for the existence of the Newman guide! For those of us who do not take for granted the pearls in our faith, we will be grateful for the few resources that are available, at least they are there for the person to choose. We need to promote it more.
Oh my, Jesus’ return cannot happen too soon. How can this world be so mixed up and confused? How can so many people get sucked up into this perverse world? The people who approve and defend this behavior need to be fired so an example is set for anyone else coming in behind them.
This is good! This is a very important step. The Vatican taking an action in this, regardless of successful outcome, is a public statement. The “filth” has been spewing out in so-called Catholic universities for way to long. MONEY and prayer will help boil the stench out of the fanciful degenerates that approve this b/s on campus.
Money? Hopefully Mommy and Daddy will read into the stance the Vatican has taken and help Jr. to choose a True Catholic University. Not one in “name” only. Less enrollment, less $ for the degenerates …opps..I mean board members. If we don’t demand better and are not willing to boycott false Catholic universities, then don’t complain when the degenerates one day decide that pedophilia is “normal expression of ones sexuality.”
Stand Up and fight for the TRUTH.
Sodomites and LBGT sympathizer’s are NOT helping their well being by supporting their disorder! Yes. A disorder. Please help them by encouraging them to find http://www.couragerc.net
I see you are sad. That I see. I’m sorry for that. u-see.
Please, read the short book “AA-1025” and you will understand what’s going on in the Church nowadays!
I second your recommendation for AA-1025, The parishioner. That little book reads like the detailed account of Our Lady’s warnings at Quito, La Salette, Fatima, and Akita all rolled into one. Some question the books origins, but I don’t think anyone can question the reality of the fruits proposed in the text and those seeking acceptance as supposedly Catholic today.
I read this book in the early 90’s given to me by a nun. Thought provoking and a must read.
AA-1025 is available for free on line. You can read it in it’s entirety at the following website: https://www.fatimamovement.org/i-AA-1025.php
It seems to be the journal of a single individual at best, not a huge movement.
Its about time. I hope this does not stop at that but something more will be done to stop this madness that is being permitted and anti-Catholic events committed on Catholic campuses. Let continue to pray and praise God that the lay faithful are taking action!
To attain peace in the world and to make reparation for the sins of the world start first Saturday devotion in your church parish. I am starting this in my parish today. If you are not familiar with this devotion please look it up.
Deuteronomy 22:5.
I can only imagine how THOROUGH, FORCEFUL and FINAL the Divine “medication” will be for this VERY, VERY SICK AGE. I shudder.
Bishop Cirilo Flores, Diocese of San Deigo , since 2013.
It would be helpful when the CCD publishes stories if you would include contact information for the appropriate Diocese Bishop.
(Bishops can not be expected to know everything that takes place within his Diocese, and it is our obligation to report all abuses to him.)
Thank you.
Code of Canon Law under Obligations and Rights of ALL the Christian Faithful – – – “212 §3. According to the knowledge, competence, and prestige which they possess, they have the right and even at times the duty to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church
and to make their opinion known to the rest of the Christian faithful,
without prejudice to the integrity of faith and morals, with reverence toward their pastors, and attentive to common advantage and the dignity of persons. “
This Bishop has been fully aware of this problem. His approach is consistent with many other dioceses throughout the country. Look the other way when the Progressives commit atrocities on church or Catholic school grounds but immediately come down hard on anyone who dares to celebrate a Latin Mass or conduct a Summa Theologica study group!
Bishop Flores has been coadjutor here since 2011, when the drag shows first started. He’s well aware of the situation at USD. He can be contacted at cflores@diocese-sdiego.org.
Yes please write to Bishop Flores and put some pressure on him!
Many years ago, Archbishop Fulton J Sheen advised parents NOT to send their children to Catholic universities as the children would loose their faith. Things have gotten much worse since these words were uttered in the 1960’s. There are a few good Catholic colleges and universities, but most are rotten. Pope John Paul II said that true faith must be taught in schools, but no on is listening. Over fifty years, if you were non-Catholic, but attended a Catholic institution of higher education, you were still required to take Catholic religion courses. Now, the religion classes have about as much moral content as Rome did under the insane emperor Caligula. How the mighty have fallen. The local bishop is supposed to control the Catholic schools in his diocese (look how Fort Worth clamped down on Fisher More because it is a traditional school) Most bishops are not interested in education; their main concern is illegal immigrants and the economy. As a result, we have baptized neo-pagan Catholics running around, who know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about their faith, and horrible shows like this macabre demonic production taking place. Kyrie Eleison!
Many of the current teachers and administrators attended local CINO universities/colleges and they automatically seem to have an “in” teaching in some archdioceses and dioceses. This is a major problem since most have no idea what the Faith is (they weren’t taught about Catholicism in these CINO schools).
You are right, but there should be no CINO schools in any US Diocese. Those that advertise themselves to be ‘Catholic’ but to do not teach and act according to the Faith are taking tuition money under false pretenses. – FRAUD.
Always contact the appropriate Diocese Bishops (or if necessary the Vatican) when you know of these issues.
“APOSTOLIC CONSTITUTION of the SUPREME PONTIFF
JOHN PAUL II on CATHOLIC UNIVERSITIES”
https://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/apost_constitutions/documents/hf_jp-ii_apc_15081990_ex-corde-ecclesiae_en.html
Look under “General Norms” for:
” Article 4 § 2. All teachers and all administrators, at the time of their appointment, are to be informed about the Catholic identity of the Institution and its implications, and about their responsibility to promote, or at least to respect, that identity.”
“Article 5 § 2. Each Bishop has a responsibility to promote the welfare of the Catholic Universities in his diocese and has the right and duty to watch over the preservation and strengthening of their Catholic character.
If problems should arise concerning this Catholic character, the local Bishop is to take the initiatives necessary to resolve the matter, working with the competent university authorities in accordance with established procedures(52) and, if necessary, with the help of the Holy See.”
The parents Fulton Sheen spoke to, advising them to Not send their children to Catholic universities, ignored him. Those people did send their children to Catholic universities in the 1960s through the 1980s. It’s the grandchildren who are being sent now, and we are now twice removed from yesterday. So, as you say, we now have baptized neo-pagan Catholics running around, from whom are selected the administrators and faculties at places like USD. So this problem is not primarily about the schools, its about the “Catholics.” The “Catholic” schools (as well as the hierachy) will always reflect the body Catholic, and in the present era, the body Catholic in this country is by and large a disgrace to the Faith.
Dump the campus to the highest offer. It is excellent real estate and the Church needs the proceeds to payoff the lawsuits. San Diego already has two major secular universities.
I would love to see the campus taken over by John Paul the Great University.
I agree with stan j. Unfortunately, I’ll probably have the resources to buy Trump Tower before JPTGU has the resources to buy the USD real estate.
Joan of El Cajon yes I agree…giving them the blessing to offer other options not just media or business. But it may be too big for them because from my understanding is that they wish to remain small. Who knows.
The campus is beautiful and we can not abandon it to the secular….we must fight for it and allow the priests from The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter, Milles Christi and or Congregation of the Fathers of Mercy to run it! Alongside with devout holy nuns! That would be a dream! : )
No, it’s a dream right now. People should consider that there’s a reason the orthodox schools are small – and it’s not just because there are few Catholics who want a faithful liberal arts education. The reason is no Catholic educational institution can become large and still maintain its fidelity in this day and age. A large institution simply cannot control the large numbers of employees necessary for staffing and maintain the faith. The Jesuit schools are the ultimate example of throwing in the towel on this point. People need to maybe consider that the faith will always be maintained by small core groups. There’s not going to be some powerhouse truly Catholic institution. The larger they get, the less fidelity overall.
Our local “Catholic” university, the University of San Diego, will defiantly hold its THIRD drag show this Thursday, April 10, in what has now become an annual event. See https://www.facebook.com/PrideAtUSD.
This action follows thousands of complaints and petitions to the school over the past two years since the drag shows began, begging school officials to put a stop to them. USD, however, has turned a deaf ear to these pleas and has made no effort to stop the drag shows or any of the other pro-homosexual activism that has infested campus for approximately 20 years.
As a result, concerned Catholics are issuing a call to fast and pray this Thursday in reparation for USD’s scandal. Please join us in storming Heaven for an end to USD’s promotion of homosexual mortal sin.
TFP Student Action is also providing a petition you can sign here: https://www.tfpstudentaction.org/get-involved/online-petitions/drag-show-at-usd-catholics-protest-vatican-calls-it-a-scandal.html. The goal is 10,000 signatures, but as of right now is about 8,400. Please share the petition with your contacts.
Finally, please contact the following USD and San Diego Diocese officials. Be polite and respectful, yet firm, about your desire to see this scandal ended. Thus far, San Diego Bishop Cirilo Flores has not responded publicly to the Vatican’s letter. Although the problems at USD began long before Bishop Flores came to San Diego, we would welcome his public acknowledgment and agreement with the Vatican’s findings. Send a copy of your letter (or cc:) to USDAlum@limandri.net.

Thank you SandraD God bless you for this valuable imformation. We should still continue writing letters to the Vatican as well. Also put pressure on the new Bishop!
Dr. Lyons, please be certain to keep the Vatican in the loop
especially if Bishop Flores refuses to do his job per Code of Canon Law, and “Apostolic Constitution Ex Corde Ecclesiae” (on Catholic Universities).
AMEN I agree, especially if Bishop Flores isn’t doing his job!
I remember ‘Admiral / doctor / syster’ Mary Lyons when she was appointed head of the California Maritime Academy.
She knew as much about Merchant Shipping and Academy Education as she does the Catholic Church – but sure has hyr PC Politics in order – if naught else.
