As of March of 2006, in his presentation “Alienated Catholics,” given at San Francisco’s St. Agnes parish, Father Vincent Pizzuto of the University of San Francisco was still using the term “we” to describe same-sex attracted Catholics.
While the “we” indicates Pizzuto considered himself a Catholic at that time, it is questionable how deeply that identification was felt: four months later, in July of 2006, Pizzuto was ordained a priest in the Celtic Christian Church, a church not in communion with the Rome. At the time the “Alienated Catholics” presentation was given, the pastor of St. Agnes parish was Father Cameron Ayers, SJ. Ayers, like Pizzuto, has since left the Church, and is now an assisting priest at San Francisco’s Holy Innocents Episcopal Church.
At the time of his ordination, Father Pizzuto was serving as an assistant professor in the department of theology and religious studies at the (Jesuit) University of San Francisco, a nominally Catholic university. Sometime between February 2011 and October 2012 (according to the department webpage), despite his public alienation from the Catholic Church, Pizzuto has been promoted and he now serves as the chair of the theology department.
Pizzuto’s faculty webpage at USF links directly to the webpage of the New Skellig Community Church, where he is the presider. New Skellig is a member community of the Celtic Christian Church, the body into which Pizzuto was ordained. The Church Statements listed on the Celtic Christian Church’s webpage are only three: Homosexuality and Same-Sex Relationship; Supporting Document on the Question of Homosexuality and Same-Sex Relationships; and Church Statement Concerning Abortion. From the Homosexuality and Same-Sex Relationships page: “If a homosexual couple wishes to make a public commitment to each other, the Church blesses such a desire and celebrates it by means of a marriage ceremony presided over by one of its clergypersons.”
Pizzuto himself writes on the New Skellig Community Weddings page: “Because the Celtic Christian Church is a canonically independent catholic church whose governing principles prioritize the ‘Law of Love’ above rules and regulations, we are especially sensitive to couples who have been alienated from their church of origin, or who find that their marriage is unjustly prohibited in some Christian institutions. This is often the case, for example, among couples who are: Previously divorced; Same-gendered; Inter-religious… In all cases, Father Vincent works personally with each couple to guide them in creating a dignified ceremony that genuinely expresses the couple’s relationship, commitment and spirituality.”
Well, at least he is honest about not believing in the teachings of the Church.
Anne T yes so lets do something about it….
Yes, Abeca Christian, keep him out of our churches and away from our children and grandchildren, unless he truly repents and shows evidence of it. “Cheap grace” is exactly that — “cheap”.
Makes sense, a non Catholic named the theology chairman at a non Catholic university.
For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. 2 TIMOTHY 4:3
Oh, for goodness’ sake!!!
Don’t we have enough good, faithful, qualfiied, sensibile ROMAN CATHOLIC people who need jobs at our Catholic universities???
Why hire some heretic from a newly-invented cult that talks about the “law of love” as if he had just emerged from some marijuana fest in the sixties?
He is just another outgrowth of the smoke of satan that entered the church…Pope Paul the VI…in a sermon from 72…sadly, many Catholic universities teach a whole lot of “mumbo-jumbo”, that might even make George Tyrell blush…just sayin’
I agree with everything you said, Mackz.
The Jesuits have thrown down the guantlet yet again. They provoke, and provoke, and provoke some more. The goal in their minds seems to be to get the Church to acknowledge its sinful teaching on sexual matters. Will that order follow Pizutto into the Celtic Christian Church, or the Episcopal Church? Seems like a marriage made in heaven for the Jesuits, or at least these Jesuits.
How does this man have a mandatum? It is amazing that a heretic ex-Catholic serves as chairman of theology at USF, but it illustrates how thoroughly corrupt the CalChurch hierarchy is.
It also gives a sense that the California Jesuits are the enemy within, the Viet Cong of CalChurch.
I’m sure he doesn’t have a mandatum. Theology professors outside the Catholic Church are not required to obtain one.
He might have received the mandatum if he was Catholic when he began teaching, and only left the Church later.
Is it time for the Archbishop to state that USF is no longer Catholic?
The Lion is biding his time. Hopefully he will come out and say so, or at least this time, take back the school from the Jesuits in the name of the Church.
That is what Lions do.
A better thought …. The AB bans the USF president from the SF diocese and keeps it up until USF is cleaned up.
It’s getting to the point that who cares what archbishops say. Seems to me that few if any of them say anything important, and those that do say only the bare minimum. The bishops today may historically be the bottom of the barrel in terms of their collective efforts to achieve holiness. Read of the holy bishop of Church history … there are none today that even come close.
First, it seems this guy isn’t really a priest, so he shouldn’t be called “Father.” Second, it’s a Jesuit school, so what do you want (doesn’t that say it all and it’s in San Francisco no less)? What bishop is in charge of San Francisco now?
The Lion of Saint Francis hopefully will have something to say soon.
The religious community with the strongest history of doing battle with heretics and traitors to Catholicism is the Society of Jesus. The emphasis in that sentence is the word “history”. That is all in the past. Now THEY are the heretics and traitors. St. Ignatius of Loyola is not happy about this!
And shockingly, they have produced some of the the most infamous…like Chardin and George Tyrell…seems rather paradoxical…but that is our Church..a basket of wheat and chaff…this is the chaff
Okay, so now parents looking for authentically Catholic educations for their children know what school in San Francisco to AVOID at all costs!
“Law of Love”? This is completely and hysterically funny, except for the damnation that likely awaits for those who believe in, and follow, such a “Law”. We miss Benedict, although he was truly old and beaten down by dealing with what a recent article called the deep and abiding homosexual presence in the Church, including the curia and throughout the bishops in the world. No wonder so little can be accomplished with satanic beliefs countering what the Pope commands. Religious orders, too, such as the Jesuits, often significantly enable homosexual practices, including among the clergy. It is good that Pizzuto and Ayers are gone as Roman Catholic clergy, although there are many many like them, or that are greatly sympathetic to them. The new pope must make the removal of such “filth” in the Church (to use Benedict’s phrase) his top priority; much else will follow more easily as this is accomplished.
“The law of love”, as I recall, is a term used by St Paul, and refers to Jesus Christ. The heresy of these corrupt fakirs such as Pizzuto is their spin on Jesus. They create idols and label them with good terms. “They shall call evil good”.
Hey… Matt Fox left the Catholic faith and became an anglican priest… he used to run around the Bay Area with new-agers, wiccans, warlocks and spell-casters… if he wants to leave, better that he doesn’t spread error in the Church and lead souls astray…
WHERE IS THE BISHOP???????
Did you send the San Francisco Abp the article?
Matt Fox is a heretic…his Anglican orders are invalid…as Pope Leo the XIII declared in 1896 (?)…the Church of England had no valid orders…in fact, they did for about 25-30 years after the English revolt, that was started by good King Henry…they have been devoid of valid orders for 450 years and more…I have heard that some Anglican seminarians have sought ordination from eastern orthodox bishops…in order to claim valid orders and apostolic succession..
This reminds me that no one has yet manned up to my challenge to provide Magisterial documentation on the point of becoming evil a priest must reach before his authority to consecrate no longer exists.
Skai,
Wrong! I answered you when you first posed that question. Did you read my reply?
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Why do you waste your time and ours w/such useless information re all that is wrong w/Catholicism. We all know about USF’s heretical stance. Why not publish more spirit filled and joyous stories re Catholics who ARE doing the good Lord’s will.
Because we are at war, sam.
It’s called spiritual warfare, according to St Paul, sam. Twothousand years ago the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles and the Church was born. The Apostles who were hiding after the Crucifixion and Resurrection opened the doors and stepped into history. The Church is commissioned to go into every corner of the world and preach the Gospel and disciple the nations, according to the Gospel of St Mark.
Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic College in Santa Paula California…the classics are taught here…Aristotle, Pliny,…and all the Doctors of the Church…the Chapel is awe-inspiring and truly edifying…you would marvel at the humility, and modesty of the students that attend this College…they are a joy…and are wonderful models of what young catholic laity “should” reflect. This is an outstanding, traditional Catholic liberal arts College…
Yes I agree
I agree with you again and again, Gator, and here once again. I have not seen its likes in all my travels. My husband and I plan to leave a gift to the college. Thomas Aquinas College offers an excellent educational experience for students. Students from Thomas Aquinas, virtually without exception from among those I have known, have gone on to live good lives and help make the world a better place, each in his or her own way. This wonderful, truly Catholic college is just plain remarkable.
He was not Ordained. He engaged in prendend ordination. There is no ordination outside the Church of the East and West.
He looks so content…smiling placidly…words of love and tolerance…I met two “gay men” from Palm Springs recently, at my friends house, a party if you will…neither were Catholic, but both were seeking endorsement from the Church, tolerating their “sinful ways”…I calmly said that sodomy is condemned by Holy Mother Church…and then articulated that sodomy was so gravely sinful, that it cried to Heaven for vengeance…As the two of them loosened up, the wine they were drinking began to take hold and they both began stroking and fondling each other before my very eyes!…Shameful…
Gator, why did your friend even have such people in his/her house? I would have excused myself, told my friend why and left.
This is extremely interesting and newsworthy. A priest in an independent catholic community (which claims valid orders and apostolic succession — although I do not think the Catholic Church would agree) is the head of theology at a Catholic (Jesuit) College. That’s huge!
Indeed. A huge disgrace.
Any priest who leaves the Catholic Faith, is automatically excommunicated.
His can not licitly perform the Sacraments.
The Jesuits must clean their own house or leave the Catholic Faith. The new Archbishop of San Francisco Cordilieone has a huge job on his hands. And he does have the ability to insist that the Jesuits and SFU no longer call themselves ‘Catholic”. He has the responsibility for everything within his Diocese.
Pray for the Abp.
It is the duty and responsibility of every Faithful Catholic to report abuses to Bishops – per the Code of Canon Law 212 #3.
I hope that this article has been sent directly to Abp Cordinlione – especially by those living in CA.
I hope Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone Does not turn out to be just another do nothing Bishop and makes some bold moves, irrespective of who the new Pope is. He needs to lead for Christ. His Madate to bring the Apostolic faith back to the City of St. Francis, a City so named by St. Francis sons comes from Christ himself.
In the name of Christ, Son of the most High, take back this City for him. That is why you are the Lion.
BTW I was preparing an email to the Archdiocese to register my displeasure and didn’t find reference at the USF website to his promotion to chairman of the department. What is the source for the CCD assertion?
The editor replies: The USF faculty profile identifies Pizzuto as chair of the department: “Vincent Pizzuto, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of New Testament and Chair of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Francisco.” (Here is a link to that page: https://www.usfca.edu/facultydetails.aspx?id=4294969673)
While the exact date of his appointment is not clear, CalCatholic came up with a date range — between February 2011 and October 2012 — by comparing previous biographical entries to the current one. In previous biographies, he was not identified as chair of the department.
Dear Editor:
Thank you for the link.
The LORD has told me that all of the hateful commenters on this page who are using HIS WORD to justify their sinfulness shall be BOILED in vats of their owl filth for eternity
