The following comes from a Sept. 12 posting on the website of the Cardinal Newman Society.

An alumnus of the University of San Diego, who had been active in the university’s homosexual group PRIDE, recently became the interim mayor of the city of San Diego following the infamous fall from grace of former Mayor Bob Filner for sexual improprieties.

Not only has Todd Gloria, the interim mayor, been invited back to campus as a speaker, but he is praised on USD’s website in an article titled, “USD alumnus serves the community as Councilmember of San Diego’s Third District.” USD’s PRIDE group honored Gloria, an advocate for same-sex marriage, for his work for the LGBTQ community just last year:

“Join USD’s LGBTQ and Ally Community of faculty and alumni as we celebrate University of San Diego Pride’s 21st birthday. This historic event is presented by the newly formed Pride Alumni Affinity Group for the benefit of undergraduate Pride and Pride Law.

“Honorary guest San Diego City Councilmember and USD alumnus Todd Gloria ’00 will be honored for his contributions to USD and the San Diego LGBTQ Community.”

In January, USD posted an advertisement for interns for Gloria on its website, although they made it clear that postings “do not constitute an endorsement by the University of the opinions or activities of the internship provider.”

USD also ran a piece on its website in which Gloria credited USD for his success.
