Latino support for President Donald Trump has risen to 30% nationwide, a survey published by Claremont McKenna College in California finds.
These numbers seem to suggest that Trump’s support among Latinos could be growing and support for the Democrat nominee seems to be shrinking compared to exit polls from 2016.
According to the new survey, Joe Biden’s Latino support is at 62%, slightly underperforming 2016 Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton’s 66% support in that election’s exit polls. In 2016, Trump won 28% of the Latino vote.
“Trump is gaining ground despite Covid-19 and building the border wall,” said Gaston Espinosa, the professor in charge of the study. “Latinos will be among the largest groups of voters in key swing states in 2020, making this population key for Biden, especially in Florida.”
The survey polled 1,292 Latinos from Sept. 8-18, making it the largest Latino religion and politics survey this election season. While the findings suggest that Trump may be gaining some ground with Latino voters, Trump’s real support among Latinos in the new study could be nearly 3% more or less, as the margin of error of the survey is +/- 2.73%.
The college reports that while Biden has a commanding lead in support among Latinos in swing states, the study shows that Trump is performing better than expected in five states: Florida (41%), Nevada (38%), Texas (35%), Georgia (35%), and North Carolina (28%).
Nearly 20% of Latinos are evangelical Christians, the survey said. These evangelicals are also most likely to vote for Trump (48% to 46%).
Espinosa, the Arthur V. Stoughton Professor of Religious Studies, said that Trump could get the highest Latino support since John McCain’s 31% in 2008.
“Based on Trump’s favorability rating, the fact that conservatives underreport, and that a high percentage of independent and undecided voters nationwide are born-again Christians, Trump may end up taking 31-34% of the U.S. Latino vote — though probably around 32-33%,” Espinosa said in a statement.
The above comes from an Oct. 10 story in the Christian Post.
Ole! More proof that the Latino vote is about issues other than immigration. Since Trump has the proven ability to built the economy, he is the natural and logical choice for those who want to work and thrive.
Since his overall support is plummeting, this means that most Latino Catholics see Mr. Biden as the best candidate. Not surprising considering the hateful rhetoric of the current administration.
According to you then, anyone who supports Trump supports hate, that’s you showing no pacem. As for Trump’s Latino support, look at the 30,000 car rally in FL this weekend flying American and Trump flags. Haters all? Get a grip, Trump Derangement Syndrome is really ugly, hateful in fact.
Kristin, I dont think Dona said that at all.
Dona did say exactly that because to support “hateful rhetoric” means one must be hateful by extension. For those who claim to reject hate, liberals like Dona are promulgating it. Not surprising considering their continuing denial of the 2016 election results.
Dona no pacem, can you provide some examples of the “hateful rhetoric” of the current administration?
According to who, is Trump’s overall support plummeting? The “fake news” I guess. And how did 2016 work out for you. Catholic Latinos should not vote for Biden because he is pro-abortion up until the moment of birth and Latinos are very pro-life. As for the hateful rhetoric, don’t you ever listen to the deranged leftist media who are consumed by hate and vile character assassinations on a daily basis They’re unhinged and spew hate all the time. Trump is mild in his criticisms compared to them.
Decent Latinos, both Catholic and Protestant, are waking up to the fact that not everyone going across borders or coming over here are good people, Many Latinos have underage sons and daughters, and they do not want them misused.
Recently a United States archbishop burned a Catholic altar that had been horribly desecrated by a priest charged with obscenity for filming pornography of himself and two women on the altar. His name was not Hispanic, but open borders make it easier for such people to flee, and I do not think good Mexicans want him any more than Americans want such a person coming over here.
Anne perhaps you did not have a chance to review your post, but what do open borders have to do with the desecration in Louisiana by a white American priest?
If borders are not checked as to who is coming in or going across, it makes it easier for criminals to flee and do the same things in other countries no matter the color of their skin or their ethnic group, and many are condemning the border patrol for doing their duty.
Many in the northern United States complain about illegals coming into this country too. We just do not hear so much about it in California because that is not the closest border to us.
Annette, when I used the term Mexican in my first post, I meant those on the other side of our border, the Mexican citizens. In other words the law abiding people of Mexico do not want our criminals, and we do not want theirs. Each country has enough problems of its own.
I have a Mexican-American relative who has young daughters, and he does not want some of the men coming over around them, as he is not sure of their character. That goes for most responsible fathers of any color from any country.
Anne TE we don’t have open borders. In fact, Obama returned more people back across the border than his Republican predecessors.
So you are all for fences along the borders?????? For some reason I doubt that.
Gee, playing “Despacito” in a blatant and ineffective way to pander to Hispanics isn’t working for Biden? He and Harris appeared to an audience of ZERO people in Arizona.

Biden is going to win.
The only win is heaven, and for someone rabidly committed to abortion, that’s no certainty.
Is there going to be an article on this site about Latino support for Biden?
Probably not because that wouldn’t be news.
Biden 91% chance to win. Looks like God and Mary want more rosaries, adoration and consecrations. What faithful Catholics have done so far hasn’t been enough. Really, I think 2020 is the year that a lot of Catholics question their faith and a significant number leave. Pandemic, churches shut down, America turning secular/evil Democrat. I stick with it, but I don’t understand providence. Makes no sense. Think how many prolife people will be despondent when, after Judge Barrett is confirmed, Biden packs the court with lib justices to undo everything prolife people worked to accomplish for decades to reverse Roe. God, where are you? Is life a big joke on believers? It’s the myth of Sisyphus; no matter how hard people work and pray, it’s for nothing, apparently.
“Looks like God and Mary want more rosaries, adoration and consecrations.”
And, that is exactly what the Holy Mother is asking of all of us. Will you do so Kevin or continue to whine and complain?
In the unlikely event that you are aware today is the anniversary of the Holy Mothers appearance and Miracle of the Sun at Fatima Oct 13.
Here is what she told the the three children what she wanted from us. Any more questions on what the Holy Mother and God are asking of us?
“…I am Our Lady of the Rosary. Continue to say the Rosary every day. …. People must amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins.“ Then, growing sadder, “They must not offend Our Lord any more for He is already too much offended.”
Poor Kevin, no hope or trust in God. By the way, what were Hillary’s chances of winning?
I am Hispanic, and my family and friends will vote for Mr. Trump.
Tony, you, your family, and Ronnie are welcome at my Thanksgiving table.
I believe strongly that each country should be able to control who comes into the country. That said, why is it that the loudest concern for building a wall at the border is only for the section touching Mexico? Why not a wall across our border with Canada? Oh, I forgot. They are not brown skinned, most speak English and are mostly Northern European. Except for major highway crossings, it is a very pourous border but we don’t want to build a way up there do we? On the other hand, it can be argued that they don’t cross the border by the thousands. I wonder why?
Bob One, you did not read my first post at 10:41 am on October 13. Note I said BORDERS, not BORDER. Reread my post. It is up to northern states to get that done if that is what they want, and many do want their border controlled. One long border is singular, and borders is two long borders — Canada and Mexico. Now have you got it? or do I need to explain that to you again and again and again.
Bob One, there are plenty of browned skinned people in Canada, but most of them want to stay there. That is their native territory, and they seem to be happy with it. Some are intermarried with other races, too, same as in the state of Alaska. Some terrorists coming through might be a whole different mater, and there are a some complaints about that, but that is not my business as I do not live anywhere near there. Why don’t you go tell them they ought to have a wall there?
Hombre, Mexico’s government has sold out their own people for generations, brown skinned politicians selling out brown skinned citizens, and all of them speaking Spanish. Wonder about that Bob One, and why you blame Northern Europeans for all that is bad yet give them no credit for what is good. Hint, your own racism.
Bob One, Not everything is about race.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the border with the United States will remain closed to non-essential travel until the U.S. gets coronavirus under control.
“We have committed to keeping Canadians safe and we keep extending the border closures because the United States is not in a place where we would feel comfortable reopening those borders,” he told the hosts of “The Start” in a radio interview Wednesday. “We see the cases in the United States and elsewhere around the world, and we need to continue to keep these border controls in place.”
The current border closure agreement between the U.S. and Canada is set to expire Oct. 21, but it will likely be extended for the seventh time since it first went into effect in March.
Like I said in a previous post Bob One will tell you are a racist just breathing and being white. What Bob failed to realize is that thousands of Canadians are not crossing the border illegally for economic reasons, because Canada is a developed nation economically.
Carlos………. Bravo !!!
Viva Cristo Rey !
Still no examples of the “hateful rhetoric” of the current administration.
Will we see the McCarrick report or the secret Vatican-ChiComm agreement before someone can tell us the “hateful rhetoric” of the current administration?
