The following comes from a December 14 story on LifeSiteNews.com.
Peacemakers are those who love, defend and promote life in its fullness,” said Pope Benedict XVI in his Message for World Day of Peace 2013.
In the message, which was released today, the pope noted that “serious harm to justice and peace” comes from denying the true principles of respect for life and promotion of the “natural structure of marriage as the union of a man and a woman.”
Pope Benedict XVI, boldly stressed that pro-lifers are the ‘true peacemakers’ and that those who would support abortion promote a “false peace.”
The path to the attainment of the common good and to peace is above all that of respect for human life in all its many aspects, beginning with its conception, through its development and up to its natural end. True peacemakers, then, are those who love, defend and promote human life in all its dimensions, personal, communitarian and transcendent. Life in its fullness is the height of peace. Anyone who loves peace cannot tolerate attacks and crimes against life.
Those who insufficiently value human life and, in consequence, support among other things the liberalization of abortion, perhaps do not realize that in this way they are proposing the pursuit of a false peace. The flight from responsibility, which degrades human persons, and even more so the killing of a defenseless and innocent being, will never be able to produce happiness or peace. Indeed how could one claim to bring about peace, the integral development of peoples or even the protection of the environment without defending the life of those who are weakest, beginning with the unborn.
Every offence against life, especially at its beginning, inevitably causes irreparable damage to development, peace and the environment. Neither is it just to introduce surreptitiously into legislation false rights or freedoms which, on the basis of a reductive and relativistic view of human beings and the clever use of ambiguous expressions aimed at promoting a supposed right to abortion and euthanasia, pose a threat to the fundamental right to life.
Along with principle of respect for life, the Holy Father spoke of the “need to acknowledge and promote the natural structure of marriage as the union of a man and a woman in the face of attempts to make it juridically equivalent to radically different types of union; such attempts actually harm and help to destabilize marriage, obscuring its specific nature and its indispensable role in society.”
He noted that these principles are “not truths of faith,” but “inscribed in human nature itself, accessible to reason and thus common to all humanity.” Efforts to promote them, he said, “are all the more necessary the more these principles are denied or misunderstood, since this constitutes an offence against the truth of the human person, with serious harm to justice and peace.”

Our Pope continues to get it right.
Abortion after 9 weeks and 3 days is not only murder but TORTURE, since at that time they feel pain.
As I watched Obama appear sad when 20 children were killed in Connecticut, I could not help but think of his hypocracy when millions of innocent babies are killed for convenience and he supports their torture and murder.
Evil begets evil.
Peace requires us to respect human life at every age.
The most vulnerable need our protection the most – innocent unborn babies, elderly, physically and mentally disabled.
My thoughts exactly!
Another hypocrisy here of course are those who acclaim the Pope as right in this instance, but not so when we speaks on other issues of the pro-life cause such as the death penalty. Folks, the hypocrisy and dissent is glaring–the posture of cafeteria, “pick and choose” Catholics.
May our Lord bless you or speaking the truth, Pete! You are so right. The actions of that distrubed man in Newtown is terrible to say the least. But I was reflecting to my RCIA class last night that while the massacre in Newtown is horrible, it is nothing compaired to the terrible massacre of human life in the womb. We rightfully mourn the loss of innocence in Newtown but ignore the terrible loss of indefensible children who are murdered in the abortion clinic. I only wish that our country would have an attack of horror for what is happening in their own abortion clinics and equate them with the attack in Newtown. May God have mercy on our troubled country.
President Obama supports same sex marriage. President Obama supports the killing of the unborn. Catholic voters helped to place this bad man in power. President Obama promotes a false peace when on one hand he condemns the violence in Connecticut but on the other hand he completely sanctions the mass murdering of millions of children innocently resting in the wombs of their mothers.
Away from the many camera flashes, has Obama ever wiped away a single tear for the tiny helpless babies who survive the brutality of being aborted then left to die alone in a cold stainless steel pail?
What is more heinous? Evil acting total strangers, madmen murdering children and people they have never met? OR an entire nation that tells a mother that she may hand over $$$ to hire a madman to painfully murder her own flesh and blood while they are innocently resting in her womb?
Thank you Holy Father for speaking to the world. Will anyone listen? The culture of death is reaping the cruelty that it has sown. “The downfall of America will come through the sin of abortion” – Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta
Well put Catherine. I keep thinking about the haunting words of our Lord and Savior Jesus when He said, the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8) This passage may have seemed strange in earlier times, but it has a tremendous impact today. Will our Savior find faith when He comes in all His glory?
This is a great pope, folks. We desperately needed such a pope in times like these. I say Pope Benedict is quite literally a Godsend. As with a great father, we would all be better off if all God’s children would listen to him and be courageous in standing with him in the light of truth in relation to the world. Our voices echoing his clear guidance are needed now more than ever as our world goes off the moral, social and spiritual cliff in entirely too many quarters while our society’s leaders do nothing to stop the rush into ever-deeper madness.
These are true words spoken, but they have fallen on deaf ears. To most people, the Holy Father is just an old man, sitting in the Vatican. But this man IS THE VICAR OF CHRIST ON EARTH, and yet most Catholics pay him to attention. Just this week, an editorial in the Grand Rapids Press was written by Bishop Thomas Gumbleton condemning the passage of the right to work law in Michigan. He says that this new law is unjust and takes away the dignity of work. Gumbleton probably NEVER was involved in pro-life activities, and he did more to undermine traditional Catholic teaching than he did to build up the faith. Much press time is given to these liberal wolves in sheep’s clothing, and practically no coverage is given when the Holy Father speaks. I am very grateful to calcatholic for providing honest reporting of Catholic related issues, and for being an island of truth in a sea of deceptive lies. I applaud Pope Benedict XVI for saying what he did, and I only wish he would inforce his words with severe spiritual punishments for those who work and strive to destroy traditional marriage and the unborn.
Father Karl, from what I have read Bishop Gumbleton has been outspoken in his support of victims of clerical abuse and sadly he has paid a price for this. Bishop Gumbleton is loved and respected by so many people but not so much by the hierarchy. You seem to have a personal dislike for this bishop but from what I have read, he is a holy man and has faithfully served the Church.
Wrong again PA, This is how Gumbleton feels about gays in the clergy as quoted in the Jesuit weekly, America,Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, who has a reputation forbeing “gay-friendly,” forthrightly staked out his position: “I urge thatteachers in Catholic schools befree to allow their sexual orientation to be known [and]…the same thing should be true of priests and religious. Though I am positive you have no problem with this…Father Karl knows what he is talking about…
Mark from PA, You often stray from clarifying the teachings of the Catholic Church when it comes to same sex issues. Mark do you promote the ordination of women? It was pleasing to read that you clearly see that Installations of the Successors of the Apostle should be held inside a Catholic Church without pagan Aztec dance rituals. Now you seem to be straying into a territory that involves much more detail than a Bishop just being punished for standing up for the victims of abuse. That is not the case. It is always good to defend the victims of abuse but this has to be done in full union with the “ALL” of the teachings of the Catholic Church. Should more be done? Absolutely!!!
A bishop surely lessens the chances of a good outcome when on one hand he rightly speaks up for the victims of abuse, while thinking that at the same, he may also choose to abuse his own trusted authority in promoting teachings that run totally contrary to Christ’s Church. If God is for us, then who can be against a bishop who is faithful and wise in “ALL’ matters?
Bishop Gumbleton has not been faithful in “ALL’ matters. So the discipline in regards to speaking up about the extension of statutes, runs much deeper than your statement. It is counter productive to think that one can achieve a good while attacking different Church Laws that no man or woman has the authority to attack or change. These are not man made laws. These are God’s Laws and they have been guided by the Holy Spirit for well over two thousand years. Bishop Gumbleton even uses the dissenting forum of Call to Action to voice his dissent. He forgot his call to Faithfulness. A bishop who rails against the Holy Spirit will never achieve good results in another particular issue. The Church is One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic. It is an apostolic work to want to end abuse but it is not Apostolic to rail against the Oneness and the Unity, for in doing so it rails against the Holiness in the application of stopping evils. A bishop who selectively rails against His own Church on certain matters is not being a faithful follower of Christ. Christ said, “If you love me you will follow all of My Teachings and all of My Commandments.” Christ did not say, Bishop Gumbleton, “Defend the victims of abuse and at the same time attack Me by promoting dissent, disobedience and a great lack of unity in other very important matters. So Mark, it was Bishop Gumbleton who foolishly chose to think he could achieve a good while also working to chip away at the Oneness and the Unity of Christ’s Church through serious and willful disobedience. These are very serious matters that also wound the Body of Christ.
Mark, Here is just one of the statements from Bridget Mary Meehan and Womanpriests about their gratitude for Bishop Gumbleton’s promoting women’s ordination. Mark do you support this?
“Bishop Gumbleton spent time promoting In his homily on NCR Online, (fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time) Bishop Tom Gumbleton cites the alarming data that a large number of RC churches in the United States are being closed because of shortage of priests.
Bishop Gumbleton then goes on to raise the question of women’s vocation to priestly ministry: “And there are those who are calling for it, but then they’re pushed away like Amos was pushed away, silenced. You can’t speak about that as a possibility, not to speak about ordaining married men or about women.” Yet, I am confident that God is taken an initiative and we who are the church have to begin to listen to that and to respond to it and try to make sure our leaders respond to it. ”
I give thanks for the courage of Bishop Tom Gumbleton who speaks out about women’s call to priestly ministry. In an ecclesiastical desert, Bishop Gumbleton is a lone courageous, prophetic voice in the U.S. hierarchy, unafraid of speaking truth to power.
Sexism is based on the view that women are inferior to men and is always sinful. And as former president Jimmy Carter reminds us in a recent article, “Losing my religion for equality” “This discrimination, unjustifiably attributed to a Higher Authority, has provided a reason or excuse for the deprivation of women’s equal rights across the world for centuries.”
In other words, the Roman Catholic Church cannot continue to discriminate against women, and blame God for it. Those days are over and the time for the full equality of women is now here.

Bridget Mary Meehan
Thank you for sharing that Catherine. That is certainly something to think about.
Gee is anyone surprised that Mark from PA is on the side of Briget Mafy Meehan and Catherine?
May God have mercy on their souls,
Kenneth M. Fisher
In other words…PA did you read her comments??
Very well said! Just because Gumbleton support certain aspects of the Church, he is duty bound to keep his mouth shut if he has a personal thought that is contrary to the laws and edict of the Church. In other words, Gumbleton should keep his mouth shut. I am sick of hearing these clerics believing they are the ones that have the right to dictate to the Holy Spirit and His Church what is right or wrong. The Spirit has directed the Holy Pontiff, the Vicar of Christ, how He wants His bride to act. Blessed John Paul has made it a indissolvable rule that women are not to be ordained. Period. This comes from the Spirit, not from humans. JP was just the messenger boy. If a deacon, priest of bishop wants to go against that, fine. Leave. Ask to be defrocked. Go about your way. But don’t mislead endangered souls with your tripe. As our Lord says, it is a good thing to have yourself tied to a millstone and tossed into the sea. A GOOD THING!
There are definitely two entirely different Chucks who contribute to this post!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Mark from PA, as a former resident of the Detroit area, I can tell you that Gumbleton is not faithful to Church teaching, nor loved the majority of Faithful Catholics in the Diocese.
You must be hearing from those who descent from Church teaching.
In fact, Gumbleton writes for the heretical and schismatic “National Catholic REPORTER” from time to time.
He does not adhere to the CCC.
Heretics and Schismatics (using the definition in the CCC) support him.
Mark you only support Gumbleton because he writes that “homosexual ACTS are not disordered”.
Bridget Mary Meehan does not adhere to the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition” either.
Whoever allowed her heresy to be posted violates Church teaching -using this media to further her heresy and scandal.
If this site becomes an anti-Catholic Church site, – against Church teaching – I am leaving.
Per the CCC and Church teaching, women will never be ordained Priests or Deacons. It is not debateable.
Meehan is certainly free to leave and start her own religion.
“But this man IS THE VICAR OF CHRIST ON EARTH, and yet most Catholics pay him no attention.”
KARL, you are right — he, like his predecessors, calls for an end to the death penalty, yet “pro-life” catholics clamor for blood.
some of these so-called pro-life people are really just “PRO-BIRTH,” and then care little about what happens AFTER one is born…to heck with the homeless…kill off the prisoners…no to medical care for all…
max,
When are you going to learn the difference between a Pope’s opinion, one that goes against Tradition by the way, and a Popes Dogmatic declarations. Actually I am posting this for others because you don’e even listen.
May God have mercy on your soul,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Father Karl, thank you for your insightful comments.
Father Karl we appreciate your guidance and comments!
“If you want peace, work for justice!” (Pope Paul VI)
and of course justice starts with the gift of life, in the womb, and after.
If you want peace, do not mock and taunt faithful priests. Justice here on this thread started with you praising this current Holy Father for speaking up for the unborn as well as “the promotion of the natural structure of marriage.”
and justice would also best fit if we don’t admire and edify planned parenthood for other services that they offer….They murder babies that is enough grounds for me to dislike them….
The media wrongly reported the number of children killed on Friday. It was actually about 4400-4380 in abortion clinics. If the media would begin to report on the true nature of abortion and the huge numbers each day, week month and year, perhaps America would awaken to the holocaust that has been going on for nearly 40 years. Until we stop abortion we will NEVER have peace.
Anniem yes I agree…I hate the hypocrisy as well because the media aired Obama crying for the innocent children killed at CT elementary school but he has no problem with murdering them in the womb, he has no issue with partial birth abortion nor with unborn babies who survive an abortion and then left to the side to die. He is sick to me!
Has anyone even tried to connect the massacre of 20 innocents in Conn. with the daily massacre of around 4,000 innocents in America in their mother’s wombs? Is it any wonder that the “nuts” who commit these atrocities can see no difference between what society considers murdering “legally” i.e. abortion and murdering those recently born.
Our current President could not see the difference when he voted consistently to murder those who survived abortion and were living outside of their mothers……though he was but a Senator then.
Our Holy Father once again has spoken with words of true wisdom. If only the world would listen to him things would be much better. We are once again entering into the dark ages where the barbarians tried to destroy the Catholic faith. May Saint Michael, and all the heavenly hosts protect all life, from the womb to the tomb, and may he shield Pope Benedict XVI from all harm, both demonic and man made.
One can only say Amen, ditto to the first comment of Pete.
Yes, the hypocrisy of our President in promoting abortion andcontraception which naturally leads to abotyion while sympathizing with those struck with the horror of the Newtown massacre. What is the difference between those dear children and the 60,000,000 massacred since the legalization of R v Wade? The Newtown children were wanted, cherished, the 60 M were not. What becomes of a society, country that does not value ALL of its children, including the preborn? No need to respond for that answer was demonstrated on Friday in Newtown, CT.
Tee, yes those children in Connecticut were loved and cherished but we will see how much some people care when they try to pass laws to control guns that are designed only for the purpose of killing people. Sadly, some people love their guns more than they love God, or innocent children.
PA you are such the typical liberal, we love our freedom to protect ourselves. Twice I have had to use my firearms to defend myself and my family from intruders. I will be damned if people like you prevent me from protecting my family from criminals. PA you echo the liberal media like no one I have seen before. You sir love promoting your sodomy more than God or anyone else
what a lie PA…this has nothing to do with guns! You are a liberal! Guns are not the issue….what a deceptive ideology the liberals have!
Mark from PA, as a woman, mother and grandmother, I object to your position that guns kill. Only people kill.
Guns in today’s society are needed by women to protect ourselves from physically stronger and evil men.
It’s called self defense.
Don’t ever try to take away women’s right to self defense, lest you become remotely guilty of participating in our rapes and deaths.
CCC: ” 2264 Love toward oneself remains a fundamental principle of morality.
Therefore it is legitimate to insist on respect for one’s own right to life.
Someone who defends his life is not guilty of murder even if he is forced to deal his aggressor a lethal blow:
If a man in self-defense uses more than necessary violence, it will be unlawful: whereas if he repels force with moderation, his defense will be lawful. . . . Nor is it necessary for salvation that a man omit the act of moderate self-defense to avoid killing the other man, since one is bound to take more care of one’s own life than of another’s. ”
Evil begets evil.
When a society including elected and appointed officials support the TORTURE and MURDER of unborn babies – then in reality they respect no one and nothing.
Unborn babies feel pain at 9 weeks and 3 days.
Thank you Ann I agree with you. In Mexico guns are outlawed and the mafia and drug lords are the only ones with guns, the innocent people there can’t defend themselves. Outlawing guns from the very good people who use them respectfully and for protection is wrong because honest people will most likely obey such illogical law but the criminal will find ways to get guns and use them for their power. Knives are used to kill too, how about the man who butchered children in another country, that just happened too but the media didn’t report it….he didn’t have a gun but he had a butcher knife and butchered children at a school, I don’t recall what country that happened but it just happened too during our situation here in the USA in CT. God have mercy on us all.
A mum and her child are alive today because she had a gun to protect herself from a man who broke in and intentionally wanted to rape her and murder her and her child. She shot him and tries not to focus on that part but on the part that she saved her child and herself from the unthinkable.
Another 911 story about a mum too who had a gun but the 911 operator told her to put the gun down since the police were on their way, they were not on time, as she put the gun down, the man broke in her room, he tackled her on the floor and did his violence on her as her child watched, finally the police arrived at the scene but not on time to stop him from violating and ripping her cloth her in front of her child.
Mark from PA, – apparently have have never heard of the Taliban who make certain that women are defenseless and then beaten, raped and killed.
Our country has already legalized the TORTURE and killing of unborn human beings by pulling off their legs and arms, and burning them with saline solution, so anything is possible.
I
f you choose not to be able to defend yourself that is your own business, but do not put women in that same position.
Criminals and evil persons will always get guns, only the innocent obey laws that prohibit self defense and then they become the victims.
Truth-3..PA-0
“Unborn babies feel pain at 9 weeks and 3 days.” Thank you Ann Marie. Mark from PA still voted for a man who ignored that. A *YES* vote for Obama was tantamount to firing a gun aimed directly at the unborn.
God knows the motives of those who chose to look the other way while they selectively fired their own *YES VOTE* weapon of mass destruction.
Well said ladies, well said..PA I figured you voted for this ghoul in the white house again…..
Catherine here is the scientific medical web site – that proves at 9 weeks and 3 days – the unborn feel PAIN.
Someone else posted this site some time ago.
ENDOWMENT for HUMAN DEVELOPMENT.
See the videos for “Motion and Sensation” (8 to 10 weeks.)
QUOTE: ” The fetus can also grasp an object, move the head forward and back, open and close the jaw, move the tongue, sigh, and stretch.
Nerve receptors in the face, the palms of the hands, and the soles of the feet can sense light touch.
In response to a light touch on the sole of the foot, the fetus will bend the hip and knee and may curl the toes. UNQUOTE.
Can you imagine the pain of having your arms, legs, or head torn from your body?
Can you imagine the pain of sensitive nerves being burned with saline solution?
How evil !
You are right that anyone who voted for Obama (or any pro-abortion politician at any level of government) is remotely guilty of participation in the TORTURE and MURDER of these unborn human beings.
The support of these voters insures the continued barbarian practice of abortion.
Well ladies, Mrs. Lanza was a gun lover and had lots of guns for her protection. How much protection did they offer her? She was murdered by her own gun. The whole thing is beyond tragic.
Mark from PA, gun and weapon free zones have left principals and teachers and other school employees “sitting ducks”, and those out to kill have acted accordingly. In public schools in California school employees are not allowed to carry pocket knives on their person because they are considered a weapon. Teachers and other school employees have to open large boxes of books with their keyes, or a pair of scissors. At least it was that strict when I was helping out at schools. That is ridiculous. How on earth can principals, teachers or any other school employee protect children and themselves against an aggressor if they are totally disarmed except for a few kitchen knives, which are only in the kitchen, and school scissors, which most often are pretty dull. By the time the police get there, it is often too late. Yes some gun ownership should be restricted, but people do have the right to protect themselves with proper weapons. It has gone to the extreme the other way in certain cases. This never happens in Israel since there are always properly taught weapons experts at schools.
I watched much of the memorial service Sunday night and was so moved by it. Our priest even gave a sermon Sunday morning about the shooting. We are not really all that far from Connecticut, probably closer than 3 hours. It is the main story even on our local TV news. It is so heartbreaking. Those innocent children are little saints in heaven but it is hard to imagine the suffering of their parents and families. I just got back from Mass a while ago. We only had 10 people at Mass but the priests gave a beautiful homily and also spoke of the children who were killed. Our prayers go out to them. Never again. May they rest in peace.
Our Pope is correct. God bless him and protect him and may no one twist his good intentions here.
I must make it clear that I have nothing against hunting rifles. Deer hunting is very popular here in PA and the hunters eat the venison. What I am against are assault weapons that are designed just to kill people. If people want to collect these guns, fine, but they should ban ammunition for these weapons for the safety of our children.
I noticed PA you could not respond to my post….my so called assault weapon saved my life… also lets clear up something, a lie once again repeated by the media. None of the civilian model weapons like an AR-15 fire more than a single round per shot..
Canisius, it depends on the weapon. As I stated, I am not against hunters or people who are properly licensed. That is terrible that you had intruders. I can’t imagine anyone trying to break into your house, they should know better than to mess with you.
The gun is not the problem, it is the person who uses it for evil that is the problem. A psychologist said that when a person with mental issues wants to kill a lot of people, they will find any way to do it, they don’t always use guns, they can also use explosives, highjacking airplanes to crash etc etc….
The Leadership Conference of Women Religious released a statement calling for strict gun legislation aimed at banning assault weapons. They mourn the loss of the children and teachers killed in Connecticut. It is good that our religious sisters spoke out on this tragedy.
I wonder if women and their husbands and lovers would be less inclined to murder their children if a law were passed requiring that any child who is declared dead be given a name, and their age at death be counted from the day of inception. In the Orient, children’s ages are figured from the date of conception, at the inception of life; that makes sense to me. I think if the parents were to be forced to acknowledge in writing that this “creature” or “conglomeration of cells” needed a person’s name and age at the date of its murder, parents might have to be forced to face the reality that this person they are considering murdering is in fact a human “creature,” or a human “conglomeration of cells” with a life force of its own and a right to a life of its own. Also, there should be a kind of soft-skinned test tube developed that would allow unwanted fetuses to be transferred from their unloving mother’s body to the care of laboratory scientists and certified workers so that the child could continue its life and be adopted by a loving family or welcomed and raised by society as a whole. All the bleeding heart liberals could show how much they love humanity by going down to the orphanages 5 seconds a week or more to volunteer to hold babies and have their photos taken to put on Facebook and show what big hearts they have and that they care for the Unmurdered Children that are ours now to love and care for. If we can go to the moon and to Mars, can’t we make a life-preserving test tube for aborted babies? How hard would it be? Maybe utilize a laboratory animal to gestate our babies until it is perfected? Please tell me why not.
Abortion and sodomy are the high sacraments of Satanism and the Democratic Party. Woe to those who voted for enablers of these intrinsic evils.
We went over the moral cliff when the pill and legalized abortion was introduced into society., which is much more serious than the fiscal cliff for our children and grandchildren. Mother Theresa said “If you want peace stop abortion” If it is legal to kill an innocent baby why not others?? Life isn’t valued anymore. The culture of death that Blessed John Paul II spoke of is upon us.
Bernice, you are exactly right!
