The following comes from a November 26 story on the Catholic News Agency website.
The abortion advocacy group Catholics For a Free Choice has invested more than $13 million over the last decade in pushing the legalization of abortion in Latin America.
IRS documents show that between 2002 and 2010 – the last year of tax filings available for review – the organization spent $13,716,679 to promote the procedure in Central and South America.
Founded in 1973, the group has an annual budget of $3 million, which it obtains through organizations that openly finance abortion, such as the Ford Foundation, which donated $300,000 in 2011.
Additional funding has been attributed to the MacArthur Foundation, which donated $275,000 between 2009 and 2012, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, which gave over $600,000 thousand in November of 2011 during a period of 24 months.
The Playboy Foundation is also among the group’s financial backers.
In October of this year, the spokesperson for the U.S. Bishops’ Conference, Sr. Mary Ann Walsh, told the Washington Times that Catholics For a Free Choice “is not a Catholic organization.”
“It never has been, and it was created to oppose the Catholic position on abortion,” Walsh emphasized.
The main offices for the group are in Washington, D.C., but the organization has outposts in Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Paraguay and Spain.

Must be a covert connection with population-controllers.
“Population control is too important to entrust to some right-wing, pro-life types. Take the recent influx of Hispanic immigrants: Their lack of respect for democracy and social order is frightening. I hope I can do something to stem that tide. I’d set up a[n abortion] clinic in Mexico for free if I could. Maybe one in Calexico would help. The survival of our society could be at stake.…The Aid to Families With Dependent Children program is the worst boondoggle ever created. When a sullen black woman can decide to have a baby and get welfare and food stamps and become a burden to all of us it’s time to stop. In parts of South Los Angeles having babies for welfare is the only industry the people have.”
– Dr. Edward Allred (multi-millionaire, former owner of Family Planning Associates, once upon a time the largest independent abortion clinic chain), quoted in “Doctor’s Abortion Practice Lucrative,” The San Diego Union, 10/12/80, pp. A-3, 17.
Despite population control efforts, the world’s population continues to rise. Is it really reducing population numbers that is their goal? Or is that nothing but their smokescreen? The Gospel lays it out clearly, and does not concern itself much about population control. We are not fighting a war over population control but over good and evil. They are out to destroy that which is good, ie the faithful of God. The incredulous massive murders they do under various guises is the old game of intimidation. You mention Jesus and they kill a hundred babies. A cardinal talks excommunication and they kill a thousand babies. So far no cardinal has stood in the place of these thousands of babies being killed. Remember that it is the cardinals who wear the blood red hat, not the laity. When the laity stands in place of the thousands of babies being aborted, then the cardinals will be required to turn over their crimson hats to the laity … but this is not the way Jesus set up His Church. Obviously He is waiting upon the cardinals to do what they are consecrated to do.
Is this Dr. Allred related to Gloria Allred? He doesn’t seem to know that Calexico is in California, not Mexico, a fact that was long in place in 1980 when he famously exposed the inner workings of his child-murdering heart and racist mind to the world. Mexicali is on the Mexican side of the adjoining cities. He seems to have been murdering the babies of minority women and the poor with special glee. I hope if he is dead that he saw the light before he died. The shameful, hidden history of the American war on inconvenient children is being written in blood with knives and poison.
Billyo,
Right wing, pro-life people can’t be trusted with population control? Are you even aware of the problems facing European countries who have so controlled their birth rate that it has fallen below the replacement level. So the idigenous population is rapidly declining while the immigrant populations are soring. Take a look at the problems France, Holland, Italy and the UK (just to name a few) are having with thier Muslim populations! The indigenous birth rate in the United States has also fallen below the replacement level changing forever population demographics. And as these demographics change so will the culture, language, et al.
In Italy in order to reverse this birth trend certain apostate Katholyc ‘theologians’ have proposed that the Church provide a temporary (X number of years) dispensation from its teachings on fornication. Perfect….just toss out God’s Word and lets get the wide-open sex thing going:
Adultery – Check!
Pre-marital Sex – Check!
Casual Hook-ups – Check!
Group sex – Check!
This suggest is so ignorant that it is unbelievable. Once you ring that sex thing it cannot be reversed…..you cannot unring a bell. What is the long term effect upon Italian morality. What will happen to the abortion rate?
I’m not in favor of blind welfare programs, unrestrained immigration etc. but murdering babies in the womb to control population is truly sickening.
Finally, in case you missed it, Obama set aside the Mexico City Policy which forbade providing U.S. dollars to support abortion in foreign countries. So now the U.S. send 10’s of millions of dollars to Mexico and other poor countries to set up abortion services. De facto the U.S. has already set up abortion clinics in Mexico to murder babies in the womb. I hope that makes America proud.
Leave it to the liberals to try and inflict population controls through abortion, 1 child policies, financial incentives, etc.
Your citing some kathuhlick “theologians” (and what destruction they have done to our holy Church since 1963! – why “theologians” anyway, there isn’t any new revelation and they seem to occupy themselves and shoot for their laurels by “redefining” our dogmas – and who and how are these monikers conferred or are they just DIY?) recommending a papal moratorium on sex sins to boost failing populations gave me an OMG moment as until now I had sort of assumed population boosts would come from governments as they did post WWI (non gender specified) to replace the millions of men lost in that war, with (very) substantial monthly monetary support to “familles nombreuses” (I don’t remember how many children were required although I think it was any over two and generously graduated up for more). But then some or parts of Western govts were still sort of Christian then, weren’t they and couldn’t have dreamt of replacement with Muslims.
Hey, don’t misread me….I don’t support these maverick apostate theologians.
I didn’t misread you at all Mike. “Citiing” not praise but as in say
“mention”
Why has this group not been excommunicated yet?
They’re not Catholic, Mbuku. They’re weirwolves, ghouls and the walking dead with money in their pockets and stones for hearts calling themselves Catholic to cover their slimy interiors. Oh, the irony! Catholics for ‘free choice’ …vegetarians for meat consumption…buddhists for war…the list can be rather long given the possibilities, no? Why has just one nun spoken out? Why are the bishops not speaking out as one? (probably because these same virulent moneyed groups are giving money to Catholic charities etc. as well)
This “Catholic” outfit is evidently funded by every major philantropic foundation in the US, from the Rockefeller to the Ford and Packard Foundation and everyone in between. Their guiding spirit is one Daniel C. Maguire, Professor of Moral Theology, Marquette (Jesuit) University; Board of Directors, Catholics For a Free Choice: A quote : “Catholic moral theology is in grave default on this issue…abortion can be the least violent option…” (N.B. Marquette is a Jesuit University, in case you missed it!)
The Archdiocese of Detroit is furious that Michael Vorris titled his organization REAL CATHOLIC TV, and so Mr. Vorris changed the name to CATHOLIC MILITANT (and this is a conservative Catholic organization) Why hasn’t the Castholic Church DEMANDED that ‘Catholics for a Free Choice’ change its name. Afterall, it is NOT a Catholic organization. Instead of doing positive things like , building up and defending traditional Catholic morality, the bishops confuse and mislead the faithful into believing that immoral actions are permissible. The episcopacy must force immoral and evil organizations NOT to use the word “Catholic” in their name. Such deception must cease immediately before more Catholics lose their faith.
Fr. Karl,
I’ve been saying this for years and am mistified by the inaction of our bishops in reigning in these dissident groups.
Pax tecum
The Bishops have often said that Catholics for a Free Choice are not a Catholic organization. They do not have permission to use the word Catholic in their name. They do it anyway. Michael Voris was told that he did not have permission to use the word Catholic in the name of his website and eventually Mr. Voris voluntarily changed the name. Catholics for a Free Choice don’t care. Mr. Voris does and it is MilitantChurch not Catholic Militant.
They should take Catholic out of their name. They are funded by outside money. I wonder how many Catholics are actually in this group.
PA, how is it that you link money sources to the definition of Catholic?
Mark most assuredly did not link money with Catholicsm…that was YOU!
Skai,
Mark didn’t like money to the definition of Catholic. I took his remarks to mean that a lot of anti-Catholic people and groups fund dissident groups to undermine Church teachings or weaken Church influence. For example…..George Soros….Planned Parenthood. When you see dollars flowing into a group from these kind of sources I think it is save to say the group is not faithful to Catholic teaching.
How could that be, Dana, since I’m Catholic and have no money?
k
I agree with what you said but still want to know why the USCCB, which has a huge bully pulpit, does not use it to lambast these heretics and shame them into changing their names. I think the bishops are way too timid in dealing with people and organizations that are obvious, flagrant, public repeatedly misrepresent themselves and the teachings of the Church.
Why?
I do not know but two things occur to me: There is no such thing as bad publicity. And…since it is such an obvious, flagrant thumbing your nose at the Church…people are less attracted to it. Here is a review from Charity Navigator: “Catholics for Choice is one of the most effective anti-Catholic organizations on the scene today. This charity is doing everything possible to support catholic access to abortion through 6 months, tax funded contraception for catholics and to undermine catholic teachings.”
They are just another bunch of anti-Catholic dissidents. You can give them all the credit you want but on a day to day basis….nothing is heard from them.
The USCCB is not the Magisterium.
It has no authority over what happens within any particular Diocese.
In the book “The Ratzinger Report”, the Cardinal (now Pope Benedict) states the following:
“We must not forget that the episcopal conferences have no theological basis, they do not belong to the structure of the Church, as willed by Christ, that cannot be eliminated; they have only a practical, concrete function.” (page 59)
“No episcopal conference, as such, has a teaching mission; its documents have no weight of their own save that of consent given to them by the individual bishops” (page 60)
“…so that the personal responsibility of every individual Bishop who, to use the words of the Code, ‘is the moderator of the entire ministry of the word, the one upon whom it is incumbent to proclaim the gospel in the particular Church (Diocese) entrusted to him, would be understood. (Canon 756.2)” (page 63)
“In a document signed by him, Cardinal Ratzinger reminded his brothers in the episcopate of the apostle Paul’s serious and passionate exhortation:
“Before God and before Christ Jesus who is to be the judge of the living and the dead, I put this duty to you.
In the name of his appearing and of his Kingdom:
proclaim the message and, welcome or unwelcome, insist on it….. Refute falsehood, correct error, call to obedience
The time is sure to come when far from being content with sound teaching, people will be avid for the latest novelty and collect for themselves a whole series of teachers, according to their tastes; and then, instead of listening to the truth, they will turn to myths.. Be careful to choose the right course; be brave under trials, and make preaching the Good News your life’s work in thoroughgoing service ” (2 Tim 4:1-5) (page 63).
Perhaps the next time you write to a Diocese Bishop, put “2 Tim 4: 1-5” at the bottom of the letter. :)
‘
I didn’t see where anyone labled the USCCB the magesterium, they are not but they are part of it. The USCCB is comprised of bishop members and these bishop members have the authority to act, as did Bishop Bruskewitz of Nebraska, to excommunicate members of dissident groups like Call To Action.
Since the USCCB calls the bishops into conference to find consensus on these kind of issues (even if it is though a vote) begging the question, “Why don’t they simply agree to excommunicate people involved with CTA et al then go home to their inidividual diocese and do so”? I doesn’t seem that hard to me.
The Bishop of the particular Diocese that the abusive organization is based is responsible for taking action against those who call themselves “Catholic”.
You can usually find the home location of an organization by searching for it on the internet.
Then send in a complain to the appropriate Diocese Bishop.
You can also copy the US Papal Nuncio in Washington DC, and the Vatican if the Bishop does not handle the problem within an appropriate period of time.
Problems are not with the Church, but with specific Diocese Bishops.
This group is based in Washington DC, Cardinal Weurl’s Diocese.
Cardinal Weurl should send them a very PUBLIC letter telling them not to use the name ‘Catholic” and quote the violation reasons directly from the CCC so they can not be misconstrued.
His letter should be published in all Diocese papers, Catholic Newspapers and Magazines, and Parish bulletins, and sent to the Washington Post, and all Bishops in Latin America.
This would at least bring Church teaching to the public eye as part of the Cardinal’s required teaching ministry, and would point out that everyone must beware of FRAUDULENT organizations calling themselves Catholic.
The USCCB has no Church authority over each Diocese, or it’s inhabitants.
Newly retired Bishop Bruskewitz gained national attention in 1996 for decreeing automatic excommunication on Catholics in his diocese for membership of the following groups, as “totally incompatible with the Catholic Faith: Call to Action; Planned Parenthood; Catholics for a Free Choice; the Hemlock Society; Freemasonry.
We need more Bishops like this who teach the faith according to the CCC and in communion with the Pope.
What are the rest of the US Bishops doing in their own diocese to protect their flocks from false teachers and wolves – out to destroy Souls ? ? ?
Why was Michael Voris hounded by the local ordinary to not refer to his organization as “Catholic” (as in “Real Catholic TV”), while it appears that no bishop has done anything to push “Catholics for a Free Choice” to drop the name “Catholic”. Silly statements by the USCCB, such as that cited above, do little to announce to the world that this group is not Catholic and should not call itself by that name. Likely there is no real legal remedy to pursue, but extensive public “advertising” by Cardinal Dolan, etc., could have dramatic impact on the successes that this group has in collecting money, and in confusing the population of its true affiliation. Just think if Cardinal Dolan (or Archbishop Cordileone for that matter) went on various talk shows, TV, and the like and said something to the effect that “Catholics for a Free Choice” were not Catholic, and that he asked them to cease the use of that word so as to not give scandal to the faithful (particularly in Latin America). And then the Talk Show Host would ask the Cardinal something like, “Well, Eminence, what should they call themselves”, and then Cardinal Dolan could say something like, “Satanists for a Free Choice” or something like that. Wouldn’t that be nice? No, that will not happen because the Catholic leadership simply does not live out the Faith, including what others might do regarding abortion and the like. And, of course, the Catholic Church bishops will never publicly state that anyone that has homosexual sex — under any circumstances — commits a grave sin. Never, ever. The Pope should fire virtually all of them.
St. Christopher, the only thing I imagine could get the USCCB’s attention would be a really massive (think civil rights in D.C.) demonstration of Traditional Catholics in their meeting city. One their buddies in the media couldn’t ignore because it would be so controversial, at least I would hope so. Think Christ driving out the money changers. As for Cardinal Dolan, I think he can be found in the 19th hole on any particular issue.
The USCCB has done all it can. It repeatedly has said that Catholics for a Free Choice is not a Catholic organization. There is no copyright on the word Catholic. Anybody can use it although faithful Catholics will not call their organization Catholic unless they have permission from their diocese (if they are aware of this rule. Many don’t know about it.) Mr. Voris complied with the decision of his diocese, greatly to his credit.
k,
You are quite wrong…the USCCB has not done everything in its power, not even close.
Take the case of Bishop Bruskewitz of the Diocese of Lincoln, NE (retired this month). In 1996 He excommunicated the members of 12 dissident groups including Call To Action. Catholic for a Free Choice, Planned Parenthood, the Hemlock Society, the Freemasons and the Society of Piux X. CTA appealed their excommunication to the Vatican and the Vatican responded to their appeal on December 6, 2006 by upholding their excommunication. When Bishop Brusketwitz retired his replacement has vowed to maintain the excommunications.
So my question is, if Bishop Bruskewitz can do it….why can’t the other bishops?
Well yes you are right. Individual bishops can place them under interdict or excommunicate them. I don’t think the USCCB can, though.
k,
Of course the USCCB doesn’t have the authority to act in a given dioceses. But I lifed the following from the USCCB Mission Statement:
“This mission calls the Conference to:
■Act collaboratively and consistently on vital issues confronting the Church and society (see Christus Dominus, no. 38.1)
■Foster communion with the Church in other nations, within the Church universal, under the leadership of its supreme pastor, the Roman Pontiff
■Offer appropriate assistance to each bishop in fulfilling his particular ministry in the local Church (Cf. Apostolos suos, 1998.)”
I’m disappointed because the bishops are not showing that that have collaborated on the vital issues facing the Church and society…..and they certainly are not consistent.
Each individual Bishop can and should do what Bishop Bruskewitz did.
Again, this is the direct responsibility of the INDIVIDUAL Diocese Bishop, not some group.
The USCCB has no such authority over any Diocese.
In this case CARDINAL Donald Weurl of Washington DC has full responsibility to – Refute falsehood, correct error, call to obedience.
It would go along way to correct the wrongs within the Church in the USA, if as individuals – Cardinal Wuerl of DC, Cardinal Dolan of NYC, Cardinal George of Chicago, Archbishop Gomez of LA, Archbishop Brom of SD; Archbishop Cordelione of SF, and those of other major Diocese would have the guts to do their jobs.
They will be judged and their eternal life will be determined by their actions or lack of action.
How can the current bishop continue the excommunication of SSPX, now that their bishops’ excommunications have ended?
The purpose of the USCCB is for the member bishops to agree on matters like the one under discussion here, the voters guide, Catholic position on the Obama care etc. They are then to take this common position home and implement same within their respective diocese. Otherwise the USCCB serves no purpose.
Skai,
The Pope lifted the excommunication of the bishops but the SSPX is still not in communion with The Catholic Church. I know it’s a bit confusing but the discussions with SSPX have not been successfully concluded hence belonging to them is no different than joining and other non-Catholic faith community.
k, which breakfast cereal puts you into these strange surreal frames of mind, such as when you post, “The USCCB has done all it can.”
I don’t eat breakfast cereal.
Well, k, guess poetic justice is kicking in. The sidebar reads “Skai on Trojan Horse”.
Maybe she just eats cereal but not breakfast,,,strange as it may seem but that explains it.
I’m sorry. I have no idea what you are talking about. Is this some kind of grudge?
Cardinal Dolan gave Obama the photo-op needed for re-election.
Bingo! Gratias! Cdl. Dolan’s appearance at the Al Smith dinner and at the democrat convention were worth an untold number of votes. I am sure Obama appreciates the tacit endorsement. Cdl. Dolan’s political party association is irrelevant. If he is a democrat, he needs to do some serious soul searching.
Catholics do not take to the streets against their Bishops. Perhaps if you said that traditional Catholics met in Washington DC to show their love and pray a public Rosary in support of their Shepherds, you might get many to go.
Just so you know, WE LOVE our Bishops, Even the worst among them
It’s supposed to be the other way around. The bishops are supposed to lead. They don’t need prayer, they have all the help of Heaven. What they need is to do what they are called to do. It is called faith.
Skai,
Say what? The bishops don’t need prayer, where did you get that idea? It is totally outside Catholic thinking.
According to Canon Law all Christian Faithful have the responsibility to point out problems within the Church to the appropriate Diocese Bishop.
When was the last time you wrote a letter?
All Bishops and the Pope need prayers.
PETE,
Spot on. We need to regularly write to the bishops with our concerns and disappointments. We should also regularly write to them singing their praises when they do something to stand up for the faith.
That is so true, Pete! Father Z was requesting prayers for the Bishop of Madison, Wis. which to me would be purgatory, just living in that liberal squalor. Apparently he is under much duress. You might want to check Father Z’s website to read the particulars, but please pray for this bishop, and ALL of our bishops need prayers. I’m going to start praying for Cardinal Dolan as I’ve been really nursing an unhealthy prejudice against him. You can’ t be mad at someone if you’re praying for them. God bless.
People must have complained (or perhaps other Bishops since Voris clearly makes known abuses within the Church?).
We are guilty if we do not send a formal complaint of an abuse
to the appropriate Diocese Bishop to get action or counteract those who do not want the truth to be known.
We can not just complain to each other, but must act appropriately to get results. Note the words “Obligations” and “Rights”.
Code of Canon Law (which can be found on the Vatican web site):
‘ THE OBLIGATIONS AND RIGHTS OF ALL THE CHRISTIAN FAITHFUL (Cann. 208 – 223) ‘ –
” 212 §3. According to the knowledge, competence, and prestige which they possess, they have the right and even at times the duty to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church
and to make their opinion known to the rest of the Christian faithful,
without prejudice to the integrity of faith and morals, with reverence toward their pastors, and attentive to common advantage and the dignity of persons.
according to the UN and Project 21 in order to have “sustainable development” you have to have less population.
Any one who is against abortion and contraception is an enemy of the state:UN or USA.Get with the program or get shipped off to a FEMA I&E (Indoctrination and education) camp. Cristeros wake up and stand up!!!!
That’s not it. That population reduction is a smoke screen. They are doing all they can to cut population numbers but the numbers continue to skyrocket.. Terror, which is what they wield, is like taxes. The top govt does not need tax revenue; it uses taxation to control society, to bend it to its will. Why should they care how many people exist? They don’t care. They care to gain power, wealth, unlimited lust, and to do this they have to conquer God.
“Philipe”: Excellent! The 19th – Hole indeed! Not certain that there are enough Traditionalists to have a very large demonstration. But, an aligned idea might be to have a good number sign a letter to the Pope, something like: “We’re as mad as Hell and won’t take this anymore” kind of statement, and then back it up with a threatened withdrawal of funding from the Church (collections, giving to foundations, etc.). The Vatican always responds to Traditionalist actions, such as setting up the FSSP in response to the SSPX. With money, power, and flaccid users, the bishops have no real reason to change (and they never do it to ensure adherence to the Faith). Nope, need to hit them in the pocketbook and in their pride, which is extreme. Of course, there are certainly wonderful bishops and cardinals, but not too many. And, they do not really like the Pope either, but Benedict is old and likely has little fight left in him. Not many options left, short of revolution, given the slug-like modernists now in control of the Church.
Pray the the Chastisement long promised by Our Blessed Mother happens soon!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
But, Kenneth, what if she only chastises you?
That would not be much fun, nor would it make many headlines.
I have to say, I’m really shocked at your words. Our beloved Pope Benedict is stronger than ever because he is weak and depends more on the power of God. Our only hope and source of power is not in the pocketbook, but in prayer. With God all things are possible. Our own puny efforts are like spitting in the wind, to coin another cliche. Prayer can defeat armies, and bring down walls. There’s no point to anything if it isn’t in God’s will…He’s the wind in our sails, the wind under our wings and the wind that fills our lungs.
Catholics for a free choice is the ultimate oxymoron. It is not Catholic because it goes against the Magesterium of the Roman Catholic Church. The abortion of the unborn is a grave sin that crys out for Almighty God’s divine retribution.
This idea that the world is overpopulated to explain abortion is pure nonsence. The world can still sustain billions of more people. Mankind has just got to learn to share more from his bounty especially nations from the western world.
They sure have a lot of money support…wow sick you know what.
