On Saturday, November 29 the Church Music Association of America will present a day of sacred music and reflection to ring in the Advent season at Immaculate Heart Church in Ramona (35 miles northwest of San Diego).
Including:
Rehearsals of Advent chants in Latin and English
Presentation on vestments and vessels of Western and Eastern churches
Introduction to vespers in the Extraordinary Form
Mass for First Sunday of Advent
Continental breakfast, fiesta-style lunch, snacks
Presenters: Jon Naples, organist for St. Margaret parish in Oceanside CA and composer published by Cantica Nova and Corpus Christi Watershed
Mary Ann Carr-Wilson, director of youth and adult choirs, St. Anne’s church in San Diego, runs Gregorian Chant Camp
John Polhamus, from The Brothers of the Little Oratory, San Diego.

Sounds like a wonderful, worthwhile day. Now…could these people be enticed to give a workshop in our Diocese? A MANDATORY workshop that would exclude OCP stuff? A whole day to which every so-called minister of music, cantor,choir members, organist (keyboardist) would be obligated to attend? A day in which the Church’s (Rome’s) directives would be spelled out? A list of resources for SACRED music, sacred songs? One could only dream…
