Additional observations St. Eugene’s is the cathedral church of the Diocese of Santa Rosa. It was founded in 1950, and designated a cathedral in 1962 when the Diocese of Santa Rosa was split off from the Archdiocese of San Francisco. St. Eugene’s is the seat of the residential Bishop of Santa Rosa, Robert Vasa, who assumed the helm in 2011. Vasa is noted for his piety and orthodoxy. Visit the Cathedral bookstore to purchase religious items; there is also a Cathedral Thrift Shop.
No reference to the recently installed baldacchino, altar rail, and other significant improvements both in liturgical appropriateness, interior beauty, and comfort of this cathedral.
Please return to the subject with photos and some interesting information on the wonderful changes at St. Eugene’s during the past year.
You are right, Larry. The changes to the sanctuary are incredible. Some current pictures would be great!
Would like to see the pro-Traditional changes to the Church’s interior.
Very good to have a TLM (it is assumed that the “Latin Mass” is a TLM and not a disguised NO using Latin). Now Bishop Vasa needs to have each parish have a regularly scheduled TLM every SUN, and all sacraments also offered in their Traditional form.
Good start.
It is indeed the Tridentine Mass that is offered! If I could figure out how to post some pictures on this site, I would!!
residential Bishop? New office for the heirarchy?
Go to New Liturgical Movement they have an article from “April 6th, 2016” about the Retro-fitting the Sanctuary and a nice picture of the new Baldachino, you see folks it can be done with the right bishop and priests in charge. And a regular TLM now this is good news.
I’ve looked at the site for April 16 and don’t see it. Do you have the URL?
St. Chris, I agree the Novus Ordo in Latin is NOT a TLM, just because it is in Latin does not make it TRADITIONAL, however the good news is the TLM is the correct one at the cathedral!! You will love the baldachino and high altar and communion rail Bishop Vasa is installing, looks like a Roman Catholic Church now!!
I would love to visit this Cathedral! Does anyone here know of public transit, going from San Francisco, up to the Cathedral– for weekday or Sunday travel?? Possibly, the Golden Gate Transit?? I would love to attend at least one Tridentine Latin Mass! I wonder if they have a nice, small Tridentine Latin Mass community, also??
I would love to visit this Cathedral just once, for a Tridentine Latin Mass– as it looks like it is very orthodox and faithful, and even has Tridentine Latin Masses! I love to keep a little file for myself, of faithful nearby conservative, orthodox Catholic churches, and priests– and Latin Tridentine Masses, most especially! This Diocese had horrific clergy sex-abuse scandals, about 15-20 years ago, to includes its former bishop! Too scary, for me! Glad things are now changed! ( I am also scared to sing, if asked, in Catholic choirs– for special Masses and religious events, in churches or cathedrals, with recent, horrifically scary, immoral scandals! I cannot bring any family members around such evils, either!!)
When will the in person mass at St Eugene`s Santa Rosa start again?
