The following came in a August 11 email to California Catholic.

Cities across the country, and now cities in California, are set up with Catholics evangelizing in the streets. And the phenomenon is growing. Many are converts, some have been Catholics all their lives – but all are excited and can’t keep it quiet any longer.   These Catholics are from St. Paul Street Evangelization and if you have not seen them yet, you are sure to see them in the near future.

“It’s a blast and it’s easy,” says Steve Beuerle, one of St. Paul’s local team directors in San Diego.  “We hand out free rosaries, brochures, and other information to those interested in learning more about the Catholic faith or returning home to the church,” says Beuerle.

“We set up a sign that says ‘Catholic Truth’ and a table with our materials in high-traffic areas such as at the beach areas, at parks, outside Petco Park, or at malls, and those that are curious approach us and we listen to them, share the beauty of the Catholic faith with them, and sometimes pray with them,” says James Stabile, who heads the California effort for St. Paul Street Evangelization.   “Every week we are training new recruits.  If you love Jesus and his church, then this is the right apostolate for you,” says Stabile.

photoSt. Paul Street Evangelization is a grassroots, non-profit Catholic evangelization organization, dedicated to responding to the mandate of Jesus to preach the Gospel to all nations by taking our Catholic Faith to the streets. We do this in a non-confrontational way, allowing the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of those who witness our public Catholic presence.

Christ’s call to evangelize was made to every Catholic Christian, and the Second Vatican Council reiterated this need, urging each of the baptized to bring the Gospel, found fully in the Catholic Church, to a culture that has largely reverted to paganism. As an on-the-street Catholic evangelization organization, St. Paul Street Evangelization provides an avenue for you to share the Person of Jesus Christ and the truth and beauty of the Catholic Faith with a hungry culture.  For more information, please go to or contact James Stabile at 760-453-8866,
