The following came in a August 11 email to California Catholic.
Cities across the country, and now cities in California, are set up with Catholics evangelizing in the streets. And the phenomenon is growing. Many are converts, some have been Catholics all their lives – but all are excited and can’t keep it quiet any longer. These Catholics are from St. Paul Street Evangelization and if you have not seen them yet, you are sure to see them in the near future.
“It’s a blast and it’s easy,” says Steve Beuerle, one of St. Paul’s local team directors in San Diego. “We hand out free rosaries, brochures, and other information to those interested in learning more about the Catholic faith or returning home to the church,” says Beuerle.
“We set up a sign that says ‘Catholic Truth’ and a table with our materials in high-traffic areas such as at the beach areas, at parks, outside Petco Park, or at malls, and those that are curious approach us and we listen to them, share the beauty of the Catholic faith with them, and sometimes pray with them,” says James Stabile, who heads the California effort for St. Paul Street Evangelization. “Every week we are training new recruits. If you love Jesus and his church, then this is the right apostolate for you,” says Stabile.
St. Paul Street Evangelization is a grassroots, non-profit Catholic evangelization organization, dedicated to responding to the mandate of Jesus to preach the Gospel to all nations by taking our Catholic Faith to the streets. We do this in a non-confrontational way, allowing the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of those who witness our public Catholic presence.
Christ’s call to evangelize was made to every Catholic Christian, and the Second Vatican Council reiterated this need, urging each of the baptized to bring the Gospel, found fully in the Catholic Church, to a culture that has largely reverted to paganism. As an on-the-street Catholic evangelization organization, St. Paul Street Evangelization provides an avenue for you to share the Person of Jesus Christ and the truth and beauty of the Catholic Faith with a hungry culture. This a wonderful, uplifting and positive story in a nation that has almost literally collectively lost it’s mind. And it is so timely and needed. Many of us have been tempted at times to lose heart at all the atrocities being committed in the “land of the free and home of the brave” Not the least of which, au contraire, is the very nexus of evil depravity, the atrocities perpetrated upon the innocent unborns through legalized murder. So, yes, I’m ALL FOR IT, and may even think hard about joining them. Actually, I was praying for such a moment to arrive in our lethal and toxic culture, and had almost despaired of it occurring. But, thanks to the Holy Spirit, it’s upon us! And at the same time that ISIS is upon us. Something mysterious here. Praise be to the Holy Virgin, She never stops praying for us.
AMEN! I will be praying for them and I praise Jesus for their zeal to spread the gospel, which is the purpose of V2. I have seen this all my life, even in high school with my youth group, we reached out to our peers to join our youth group. I remember in my public high school where I attended , I made flyers and invited my peers to attend our youth group. Kids thought I was inviting them to a party but then realized, hey this is a church youth group. Surprising enough, kids where hungry for the truth and for Christ’s church. All it takes is just to invite someone to Mass. And if you have too, say words, just do so only when required. Praise Be Jesus Christ….this organization has my support!
This is an encouraging article.
I will pray for the success of this evangelization organization.
For those who are unable to get out, check out this web site, and pass the link along to Catholics and non-Catholics alike, as part of your own evangelization.
This can be done from your home at any time of the day or night.

The Legion of Mary used to do this before most pastors outlawed this institution in their parishes. Now that ‘all religions are equal’ and the statement that ‘all are saved no matter what’, this seems to be a vain attempt to stop the Catholic Church from dying. Priests used to teach adult catechism classes, but now that the laity are in charge, and RCIA is the norm, the conversions have become a drop where they were once plentiful. There is indeed a double standard, a CATCH 22 mode of operations which is behind this diabolical disorientation which is causing the Mystical Body of Christ to implode.
So what do you suggest each of us do?
It is always good to propose a plan of action, rather than sit back and complain about something we can do nothing about.
Fr. Karl, you make some very valid points. I’m sure you would agree, however, that the St. Paul Street Evangelization apostolate is a perfect illustration that when the Lord closes one door, He opens a window. The evil one has been attempting to squash the Gospel since the day Jesus was born in a stable. We should rejoice that the Holy Spirit will never be outdone.
Amen to that Tracy!
Also Fr. Karl The Legion of Mary is still in several OF parishes and also there is an OF parish that has adoration 24 hours a week, 7 days a week and its all possible because the lay faithful have gotten themselves involved. (someone decided not to complain about the church but instead decided to get involved) The parish that has adoration always has a person assigned every hour so our Lord is never alone. Even at 3am, you will see a person, usually a gentleman, all wee hours of the night, every hour. Yes believe it or not, an OF parish, devoted! Yes…
Even our local Tridentine Mass started a group devoted to the ministry of The Legion of Mary, they are lay faithful who attended the OF mass but now brought it to the Tridentine Mass as well.
So lets pray for the success of any ministry spreading the truth and gospel of our Lord.
Abeca, you and I have agreed about giving equal dignity to OF and EF forms of the Mass. I think we owe it to ourselves to not use terms like “OF” parishes and “EF” parishes. Seems to me, this terminology creates artificial divisions where none need exist. Agree?
Not agreed, most of the parishes in this country are OF and those who run are for the most part anti-EF, the division is there like it or not…
I agree YFC but I was trying to make a point because some here are fixed on hanging all the OF, there is a lot of anti-OF folks making negative comments and fighting about what mass is better. They need to understand that when either form of Mass is done in according to the GIRM, they are both holy and our Lord is there. I was trying to make a point, I hope Father understands. Thanks for your comments too.
I like both forms of Mass but I know some have their preferences. An excellent holy man, who is also part of the pro-life movement, his kids are split, some attend the EF mass and the other half prefer the OF mass. So yes it is about preference.
Great story, as long as what is being taught is Catholicism, and not the Protestant-Catholic version that is being bandied about now — incorrectly — as the Faith. The statement that is outreach is being done “in a non-confrontational way” raises suspicion; how do they respond to pro-homosexual sexual relationship, pro-divorce/remarriage, pro-fornication, pro-choice people that object to the Church’s position on this and that? Just look at the numerous events of clergy and religious being mocked and dismissed by bishops and Catholic school administrators for simply teaching the truth about sexual ethics and morality to high school students. No, this type of activity must be more than merely a come back home invitation — remember that the prodigal son prostrated himself to the Father, confessing his sins and unworthiness to even be called his son, after which the Father showered him with love and forgiveness. Honesty is called for, and the strength to “tell it like it is (or should be)”. One hopes that his sort of message is also given. What good does it do for someone to go to confession because he wants to return to the Church, but refuse to amend his life, or even to fully confess his sins (e.g., continue to use contraception, to have improper sexual relations, that sort of thing)?

Pro-Life Friends,
I just found out about this national bus tour and it is a problem. The Hyde Amendment has been around since 1976 as a rider to the annual Appropriations Bill and has (pretty) successfully prevented taxpayer dollars from being used for abortions.
However, the pro-abortion camp is getting bolder by the day. Thursday, August 14, 201410:00 AM – 4:00 PM

“Good or bad, bills now make final push in committees
In addition to the final scheduled committee hearings, numerous bills we oppose have already passed out of all of their respective committees and are awaiting final floor votes, possibly as early as today.
Not surprisingly, three of the most disconcerting on our watch list advance LGBT causes.
AB 1577 (Atkins D-San Diego), allows officials to record a decedent’s gender preference on a death certificate, regardless of the person’s biological gender at birth.
AB 1678 (Gordon D-Los Altos) extends preferential contracting award criteria for public utility projects to gays, lesbians and transgender individuals, and
AB 2344 (Ammiano D-San Francisco), which sanitizes the roles of mother and father by nixing those titles for gender-neutral terms such as Parent 1 and Parent 2 in official paperwork for assisted reproduction.
It also creates three distinct forms to accommodate the various structures of the “modern” family.

This is what happens when the LGBT crowd manages to get their own elected to Office. They are NOT Representatives of the People, but representatives of the LGBT Community.

REFLECTION JOHN 17:
Lets give glory to our God! Let the earth and everything that breathes, that has life, give glory and praise to our Lord Jesus Christ! Jesus is with us till the end of times, read His holy words in John 17. We are HIS and He is ours. Our Lord knows the cross that we have to endure and carry in this life, He knows it but promises to be with Us. He should be our ONLY consolation next to His mum.
“Verse: 11And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, while I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are. ”
How precious are His words and His concern for us who live in the now, live in this wicked world but we have joy in our hearts because we know that it is not all lost, not all hopeless, because we have Him. The world will hate us just like many did Him but what is our greatest reward and greatest jewels? It is Heaven, to be with our Lord, even if our body is afflicted, even if we almost lose our life, even if we are weak, we find strength in Christ who renews and freshens us!
Continued reflection: John 17
Go to Confession, Pray the Rosary and reflect on John 17:
16They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. 17Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth.
We do not belong here but while we are here on earth, we must endure and seek His ways, His love and what makes and prepares us for heaven are the hardships of this life. Take every opportunity, take action, to gain a more virtuous life. Even if you struggle, keep your eye’s fixed on Jesus and remember what He has done for you. If you don’t know HIM, reflect on His holy words. Ask Him. Listen. Speak less. Judge less, don’t let your opinion be higher that you miss a chance to listen for His instructions.
Its honorable to know that Jesus died for His church, to save us, to bring us salvation. His Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. If His own crucified Him, then expect more to follow suit today in His church, while they try to bring hatred/division/scandal/sin etc to His Magisterium but remember that real love requires us to move and take mercy on our fellow men, standing firm in His truths and trusting that God has full control in everything. Being meek is understanding and having compassion for the sick, the sinner, which includes us all, we are all sinners. If our Lord took mercy on us and continues, then we must too without compromising His truths because in this we understand that it is His truths that bring mankind to salvation, unity with God and His plan for mankind. His ways are not ours. Sometimes we may think we think like Him but we are far from it, being meek is understanding this, we are not above our Lord. We must continually pray for humility.
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven. It is a Holy Day of Obligation!
THE ASSUMPTION
Sir John Beaumont (1583-1627)
Who is she that ascends so high,
Next the Heavenly King,
Round about whom Angels fly
And her praises sing?
Who is she that, adorned with light,
Makes the sun her robe,
At whose feet the queen of night
Lays her changing globe?
To that crown direct thine eye,
Which her head attires;
There thou mayst her name descry
Writ in starry fires.
This is she in whose pure womb
Heavens Prince remained;
Therefore in no earthly tomb
Can she be contained.
Heaven she was, which held that fire,
Whence the world took light,
And to Heaven doth now aspire
Flames with flames t unite.
She that did so clearly shine
When our day begun,
See how bright her beams decline
Now she sits with the Sun.
Thank you for this, abeca.
