The following is an excerpt of a letter from the office of Bishop Myron Cotta:
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I am pleased to see that we are moving forward in our plans to encourage and foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life for our diocese.
I am grateful to Fr. Cesar Martinez for accepting the full time position as Vocation Director, a position that includes not only attracting and screening vocations but also formation work and working with seminarians as they progress through their years in seminary.
This reassignment of duties will allow Sr. Wanda to commit more time to her duties as the Director of Deacon Formation and as the Vicar for Religious for the Diocese of Stockton.
Also, I would like to inform you that we have “resurrected” the St. John Vianney House as a house of formation. Located within the Newman House near the UOP campus, this house of formation will serve as a residence for our young men who are discerning a call to the seminary.
In the Peace of Christ,
Bishop Cotta
How many priests and deacons ordained in each of the last five years? The proof of this move will be the numbers for each of the next several years.
God Bless Bishop Cotta! In spite of all the critics…he’s trying!
I am joining Cardinal Burke and Bishop Schneider in their big 40- day vigil of prayer and fasting, starting Sept. 17! Hope it helps the Church!
I hope and pray that the bishop will consider having a deacon (or a priest), a man in Holy Orders, as Director of Deacon Formation. Such a man would have personal and experiential insights about the needs of deacons, their wives (in most cases) and their formation. That Sister has more time as the Vicar for Religious is good. Yet, as he put a priest over priestly vocations, might he not put a deacon over diaconal vocations?
