The following comes from a June 30 Orange County Catholic article:
The Christ Cathedral Drama Series, through a partnership with the Diocese of Orange and St. Luke Productions, will debut in the Christ Cathedral Cultural Center’s Freed Theater beginning in August.
The vision of the partnership is to answer Pope Francis’ call to evangelize to all by bringing the Gospel to life through live theater. The 2015-2016 drama series kicks off August 21 with “Faustina” and continues through March 2016 with “Therese,” “Tolton” and “The Passion.”
“Last year Bishop Vann was instrumental in bringing the productions of “Faustina” and “Vianney” to the Christ Cathedral campus,” said Ryan Lilyengren, director of communications for the Diocese of Orange. “The response to these productions was incredible. They showed us how on the Cathedral campus we can join entertainment, art and culture with our mission to build understanding and engagement with the history and teachings of the Catholic Church.”
The unique collaboration between the diocese and Saint Luke Productions came about when Leonardo Defilippis, president of the film company, reconnected with Bishop Vann at last year’s Napa Institute, at which a production of “Faustina” was presented.
“I had known him [Bishop Vann] from his earlier days in the 90s as a pastor in the Springfield diocese,” Defilippis said. “He was very engaged and interested in what we were doing and invited me to explore the idea of coming to the Christ Cathedral campus.”
Perhaps I missed it, but I didn’t see any encouragement on the Bishop’s Diocese web site for the Laity to read a Bible and the CCC – the two most important books in the Faith.
Too much make-up on the actress.
No more than you’d see on an actress in a high school play. Remember: the picture is a close-up of someone an audience will see at a distance, at which it’s intended to make her look “normal”.
Pilar, it does seem a bit much in this picture for a bride of Christ, but they might need to use more make up on the actress so the audience can distinguish her features. This is theater, not the movies where there are close ups.
I think it is better that people watch St. Luke Productions, from the ones I have seen, than most of what is on television or in the movies. Just saying.
Wow, real evangelization? Why in the world did the Apostles go out into the world to preach the Gospel (and to, ultimately, be murdered for their Faith)? Truly, their efforts were dopy; instead, why not say, like a young Mickey Rooney said to Judy Garland, “let’s put on a show”! Yeah, put on a show, and in a church, and to people that are already in our faith!!
Huh?? What?? Crazy misuse of time and resources. Get the “message” out by publishing articles, blogs, demanding meetings and air time to challenge the fornicators, and homosexual sexualists: name names, and publicly point out sinful behavior. But, be warned, you could well wind up like John the Baptist when he challenged Herod Antipas’s marriage to his brother’s wife,…
(Continued) ” Herodias. Old John lost his cabeza!!
Reject the Church’s continued, silly, happy-talk (?baby-talk?) efforts to lull people into thinking that they are doing something of value. We all need to step out, speak up about the Gospel, the nature of sin, the need for redemption through Christ and His Church, and that their way of life does not lead to eternal life. No guarantees, except that you will be reviled, or worse. But, this will please Christ.
Mr. Lileyngren,
You must not have a full “understanding” of the history and teachings of the Catholic Faith. St. Therese had the greatest respect and devotion when honoring Jesus’s Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament. The Little Flower wanted to spend her heaven doing good on earth. Please ask Bishop Vann if he has the apostolic authority to not place Our Lord in a “side show room” which is not prominently visible in the main body of the Church. Bishop Vann will respond that he does have that authority. The Little Flower and St. John Vianney would prefer that the Bishop entertain and implement THAT truth before theatrically entertaining men. St. Faustina would consider it an ocean of mercy to charitably remind Bishop Vann.
Catherine, these plays certainly beat some of the other decadent things that are going on in so-called Catholic Universities and churches. Remember the Little Flower played Joan of Arc in the plays in her convent. Quite frankly, I think she would approve of most of this from what I have seen of these plays..
Anne T.,
There is no question that these plays certainly beat some of the other decadent things going on. Anne T. Have you paid any attention to the many posts where even Kenneth Fisher and I both posted that the Diocese of Orange diaconate program had an instructor who taught that our belief in the Real Presence was cannibalism? A candidate was dismissed for telling the instructor that this not what the Church teaches. No correction of the instructor or public explanation of this kind of undermining. IOW it was done privately. What is being taught there Anne? An occasional token play does not compensate for lack of catechesis and this kind of heresy going on behind closed doors.

Anne T. Please read Stephen Brady’s evidence (link below) of what was taking place in Springfield Illinois while Monsignor Vann was busy being engaged in entertaining plays. Also, St. Therese’s convent was not protecting evil when she played Joan of Arc. We cannot be useful idiots who gullibly enable those who compromise. The faith has not been taught, defended or upheld.

“Vann refused to take any action regarding Reken’s and Steffen’s living arrangement even after I confronted him about it. Vann was Renken’s friend and coworker within the chancery. What happened to Vann? What did his silence cost him? How was he punished for his part in this ongoing cover-up? For the answer, let’s turn to a news article by Darren Barbee and Brett Hoffman that appeared in Knight Rider Newspapers ”

“FORT WORTH, Texas – (KRT) – Monsignor Kevin W. Vann of Illinois has been named co-adjutor bishop of the Fort Worth Roman Catholic Diocese and will succeed ailing Bishop Joseph Delaney when he retires, church officials announced this week.”
Anne T. , This is not about the good merits of occasionally viewing a moving play about a saint. The saints showed consistency and our shepherds have shown compromise. An occasional play is shown while the Divine Contents of the Church are gradually but steadily being undermined. This should remind us of Bishop Sheen’s warning!
Nevertheless, these plays should not be done in the sanctuary, if that is the case, nor should the Blessed Sacrament be shoved off to the side to make room for such things. The plays by St. Luke’s production that I have seen were done in a church hall.
Catherine, I am sure if you had a heart for evangelization, you would welcome this play. And if you followed the moral teaching of the Church, you would not try to harm the reputation of the bishop.
This is not about harming reputations or occasionally allowing good plays. “By their fruits you shall know them.” If you had a heart for evangelization you would desire the total conversion of all lost or lax bishops and all lost or lax cardinals who do not even “welcome” Our Lord into the main room of his very own house….nor “all” of his teachings in many Catholic schools. Our religious freedom is steadily being removed from years of our very own United States bishops thumbing their noses to certain Church teaching, protecting the lavender mafia, allowing heterodoxy, even voting for Obama, and now you bring up the word “reputation.” Our Lady of Akita called it “compromise.”
I desire your conversion.
“The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres…churches and altars sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.
The demon will be especially implacable against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss of so many souls is the cause of my sadness. If sins increase in number and gravity, there will be no longer pardon for them” Our Lady of Akita
Why don’t you ever post what our Lady of Akita told Sister Agnes to do?
Atika is not binding on the faithful, let’s be clear. Beyond that, it is conservative bishops and cardinals who are opposing the hierarchy. Just consider the minor auxilliary Bishop of a small town in Eastern Europe, Bishop Shneider, who stirs up all measure of controversy from such a junior post.
It is obvious that you desire Catherine’s conversion, Anonymous, but to what and who is the question.
To the Lord Jesus Christ, to God the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Then you may want to reassess your criteria for understanding what it means to be a follower of Our Lord, Anonymous. Covering up for wolves in sheep’s clothing is not on the list.
As to Bishop Schneider, it is not the level of the post that determines whether what the man speaks is Truth. Our Lord (the Truth) is no respecter of persons. So, yes, let’s be clear. It is not “conservative” bishops and cardinals opposing the hierarchy, it is the Truth and Tradition opposing novelty. And that is why we have the desperate attempt to paint that ugly face.
Here is what is so weird-I am not supposed to rebuke a sin that is sitting right in front of me on the internet, but I am supposed to rebuke a bishopo or cardinal because there is gossip and hearsay about them on the internet. Huh?
What is weird, Anonymous, is that you would believe the reality of miscreant bishops is something that shouldn’t be exposed because you are bound not to gossip.
Try to understand that speaking up out of necessity – ie. to save others from being abused/duped/etc – is not gossip. It is a duty. Or would you knowingly entrust a child to a pedophile? Really?
What has Bishop Vann done that makes him a miscreant?
Of what necessity did Catherine speak?
If you followed the moral teachings of the Church, Anonymous, you wouldn’t attempt to aid those who would be better off with a millstone around their necks to look solid without actually being solid. The idea is to evangelize the fullness of the Faith, not just work up sentiment without substance to give a nice appearance.
So whereas the plays are great, it is critical to have the actual Faith at play in the Church. And not Faith that jumps off a cliff at the devil’s bidding.
Charity begins at home, friend. And face paint isn’t the answer to ill health.
This is very sinful.
It is sinful to aid and abet, Anonymous. See to it.
I am not aiding and abetting, Ms. Malley. Check this out:
https://www.holyspiritinteractive.net/features/catholichandbook/25_8thcommand.asp
What you are doing, Anonymous, is rashly judging the motives of others. If the motive behind Catherine’s posts was to damage the reputation of another, then perhaps you would have a point. But the point is, Anonymous, that the reputations of said individuals are already damaged – by their own evil actions.
Try not to forget that the salvation of souls is the primary mission of Holy Mother Church. And whereas you may “judge” the motives of others to be merely personal, the personal experiences of witnessing souls abused by heterodoxy and sin under the guise of a bishop requires one to speak openly. It is a duty, Anonymous.
Fear not, friend. And imitate Christ. When the Pharisees acted outside the spirit of the law, the…
“The idea is to evangelize the fullness of the Faith, not just work up sentiment without substance to give a nice appearance.”
God bless you, Ann Malley! Your entire response is so eloquently stated.
“Charity begins at home, friend. And face paint isn’t the answer to ill health.”
God bless you, Catherine, and thank you for the links to RCF. It is critical that Catholics not forget with whom they are dealing.
Ann Malley, In peace, I desire for you to understand that sin is never OK.. It is not OK to do evil hoping good will come from it. We cannot be forgiven if we do not repent. When one has heard gossip, one is bound to not repeat it, unless there is a just reason. To criticize a priest is a sin.
You were not involved in this at all. But you chose to involve yourself and commit additional sin. God is not pleased.
God is not pleased when you misconstrue the meaning of obedience and gossip to make way for known wolves to ravage innocent sheep. That egregious practice is what led to pedophile priests being shuffled from parish to parish, giving them access to innocent souls.
God is not mocked, friend. And feigning sanctity by not speaking clearly about those who allow for dangerous practices within the Church is facilitating evil. But you choose to do as much and, in so doing, contribute to the sins that cry out to heaven as the Bride of Christ is made mockery of by her very ministers and the souls of her children consumed.
To stand idly by and not warn innocents of danger is a sin, friend. Do not confuse necessary warning with idle talk or…
I live in a part of the country that is predominantly Christian and being rebuked for sin is a part of life and it is how people learn to stop sinning and perfect themselves and it is appreciated.
When I travel, I see that other areas of the country have other standards, such as “mind your own business” (which is also in the Bible). The rule is to treat others how you want to be treated. I honestly do not mind an honest rebuke. I consider it a gift from God. I don’t appreciate lies and exaggerations (which are lies) and excuses for sin.
Ann Malley, Excellent responses!
Ann, you also wrote something July 17th at 5:11 that IS extremely important. You wrote that is is “critical” for Catholics to remember who they are dealing with. Anonymous/k had absolutely no problem selectively “gossiping” about a faithful priest (Father Guarnizo) who denied giving Holy Communion, to a woman who talked openly about her lesbian living arrangements. Anonymous also undermined the faithfulness of Father Michael Rodriguez who also mercifully upheld Church teaching regarding homosexuality. The pattern is obvious.
I see that only some sins offend you. God is offended by all sins.
I am not sure what is going on here with these two ladies. Your posts must be some kind of cult thing?
I googled those priests. That got weird fast.
I think this type of response may be a defense that a person puts up to avoid dealing with something uncomfortable. I sense that there is a lot about the Catholic Church that this person and many others are not comfortable with. The Gospel is intense and demanding. God, through the Catholic Church tries to instill confidence by giving us the Sacraments (for man it is impossible to be saved.) I know lots of people who have a lot of anxiety about sin and salvation. The Lord always forgives sin when someone is sorry (although some sins require sacramental confession to be absolved.)
I think my phrasing of this was wrong. I should have said: If you have a heart for evangelization (saying had made it seem as if I was accusing her of not having one) you will (would sounded judgemental) welcome this play. And when you follow (if you followed again seems accusatory like maybe she does not follow) the moral the moral teaching of the Church, you must avoid anything that would harm the reputation of another. (what I said seemed as pointed out judging her motives as an intent to harm).
My apologies.

Thank you, Catherine, for reminding us what lurks behind the stage makeup.
Thank you, Ann Malley!
“Your Fellow Catholic”: what a typically demeaning message regarding Bishop Athanasius Schneider. The Bishop is outstanding, and truly and fully Traditional in outlook. Of course you do not like him, and wish to belittle him, as Bishop Schneider is entirely opposed to the Catholic Church’s seeming willingess to tolerate homosexual relationships.
He calls sodomy a mortal sin. Bishop Schneider also calls it a “lie” when other bishops, such as dunderhead B. Baron, says that there is a “reasonable expectation” that all men are saved. Bishop Schneider is a jewal among the Church’s leaders.
YFC writes: “Atika (Akita) is not binding on the faithful, let’s be clear.” = Yes, that is true, but let’s be even clearer. You don’t consider God’s Laws binding. You are the inevitable result or product of “compromise” aka the church of “banishing judmentalism”.
Thank you St. Christopher! Bishop Schneider IS a jewel. You know there is goodness and “full truth” when “YFC” feels the evil necessity to all of the sudden come out of the woodwork to discount an important Church approved warning from Our Lady of Akita and also demean the courageously faithful Bishop Schneider.
Right, because personal opinions of one or two minor clerics and unverified private revelations are not really very relevant for a universal church. You like these because they feed into your own ideas – it’s rather like looking in a mirror for you.
Have you noticed how much Laudito Si and other writings and sermons of Pope Francis (like the medicine of the Rosary and consecration to the Immaculate Heart in Oct ’13) reflects the warnings and requests of Our Lady of Akita and how to prevent the calamities?
Jeremiah 23:1-3 Woe to the pastors, that destroy and tear the sheep of my pasture, saith the Lord. Therefore thus saith the Lord the God of Israel to the pastors that feed my people: You have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold I will visit upon you for the evil of your doings, saith the Lord. And I will gather together the remnant of my flock, out of all the lands into which I have cast them out: and I will make them return to their own fields, and they shall increase and be multiplied. -Douay-Rheims
