Homilies/Priests The priests very good. The community stresses, among other things, its fidelity to the Magisterium and Holy Father. The homilies are solid; priests are orthodox and not afraid to preach the truth on any topic. Fr. Pasquale loves golf, so don’t be surprised if you hear a golf story in his homilies.
Liturgies/Music Liturgies are reverent. Music depends on the Mass; cantors, organ and choirs. The music program is good, featuring traditional hymns and chant, with an occasional new song written in the tradition of the old.
Fellow parishioners Anglo, all Masses are in English. (The nearby Our Lady of Guadalupe Church serves the Hispanic community.) There are many large families at the parish, as attending are many of the tutors at nearby Thomas Aquinas College, where large families are considered a blessing.
Parking No problem
Acoustics Fine
Cry room Yes, in the back.
Additional observations St. Sebastian began as a mission in 1889, and was established as a parish in 1896. The current church building was dedicated in 1956. It is located in Ventura County and is part of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Much of the area is agricultural; there is also still oil pumped in the region.
How obnoxious that this article includes a swipe at large families!
“There are many large families at the parish, as attending are many of the tutors at nearby Thomas Aquinas College, where large families are considered a blessing.”
Large families should be considered a blessing everywhere, especially at Catholic Mass! Being open to life, and raising one’s children in the Faith are GOOD THINGS!
Hey Cal-Catholic, you have some apologizing to do.
I disagree that Cal Catholic took an obnoxious swipe at large families, but simply explained why there are many large families at the parish. I find no malice in their explanation.
Yes, not only large families, but also orthodox priests, a faithful community, solid homilies, and reverent liturgies should be considered a blessing everywhere. However, Cal Catholic explaining TAC considers large families a blessing does not automatically make it an obnoxious swipe.
I personally know Fr. Vuoso, and recommend him
Canons Regular of the Immaculate Conception (CRIC) are faithful
to the Magisterium and are very generous in going the extra mile
for souls in and around Santa Paula. The CRIC’s just added two
newly ordained priests in the past couple years. The choir is great.
if someone is carrying a burden that can only be relieved
thru sacramental confession, and there may be fear or shame
or hesitation, then this truly is a church worth driving to ! The priests all
have a mighty charism for hearing confession.
