Additional observations St. Mary’s Cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Portland. It was built in 1926, and features many beautiful works of art (take a tour of the art on the parish website) and a large pipe organ in the back. It’s located in an older neighborhood in Portland; nearby there are a number of other houses of worship, including an Episcopalian cathedral, Lutheran church and Jewish temple.
As a side note: Leonardo Defilippis in his movie, “Therese”, shot the Portland cathedral’s courtyard as a courtyard of the convent in the movie.
I truly like Bishop Sample he has offered the TLM many times and is very supportive of it, I truly wish he had one at his own cathedral however. Also not of his doing but the high altar, marble communion rail have been ripped out during the New Springtime of the 60’s and 70’s but an easy fix for the Bishop to put these back in where they belong and toss out the “dinner” table and hand rails on the altar.
Do you have handicapped parking, access and seating? I use a walker and can’t do stairs.
