The following comes from a Feb. 20 story on LifeSiteNews.com.
A committee of the South Dakota House of Representatives has voted down a bill that would have prevented abortion procedures that dismember children in the womb.
H.B. 1241, a one-page bill introduced by Rep. Isaac Latterell, would have made it state law that “no licensed physician may knowingly dismember a living unborn child with the intent of endangering the life or health” of the baby.
The bill would have punished the act of “disconnecting any bones at their joint, completely severing any bones, or removing any organs or limbs, including the spinal cord, arms, legs, and internal organs” with a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
If the abortion “involves the separation of the skull from the spine,” the abortionist could have been sentenced to life in prison.
The motion, which had 17 sponsors, died in the House Health and Human Services Committee today by a 11-1 vote. Three of the bill’s sponsors voted to table the measure; one, Manny Steele, voted to keep the bill alive.
It was a difficult day for Latterell, who saw the committee kill another bill he introduced, to prohibit abortions procured “because the unborn child has been diagnosed with, or has had a genetic screening indicating that the unborn child may have Down syndrome.”
Critics said no abortion facility in the state performed dilation and extraction (D&E) abortions. Legal experts also warned the bills would complicate South Dakota’s legal arguments, which focus on the harm abortion does to women. However, the House overwhelmingly approved a bill to ban sex-selective abortions on Wednesday.
“I am in full support of the winning federal court arguments that pro-life legislators, life groups, and attorneys in South Dakota have been advancing successfully since 2005,” Rep. Latterell told LifeSiteNews.com. “We know that abortion harms women and we have a duty to protect the mother’s relationship with her child.”
“However, this does not mean that pro-life bills which protect both the mother’s interest and the child should not be advanced,” he said. “There is strong support to protect both the mother and the child, and I am hopeful that we will work with all parties to craft legally defensible legislation that will also save lives and change hearts.”
His proposal sent a scare through the pro-abortion blogosphere, which claimed the bill secretly aimed to stop all abortions by intimidating or confusing abortionists, who would not be willing to perform earlier abortions for fear of violating the law.
Latterell said his bill would have allowed abortionists to dismember babies after death, provided they used another method to end the child’s life. But abortionist Cheryl Chastine, who reopened George Tiller’s former abortion facility in Kansas, admitted, “Before 18 weeks, injection gets more difficult” due to fetal size….

“ENDOWMENT for HUMAN DEVELOPMENT”
https://www.ehd.org/movies.php?mov_id=44
At 9 weeks and 3 days –
” The fetus can also grasp an object, move the head forward and back, open and close the jaw, move the tongue, sigh, and stretch.
Nerve receptors in the face, the palms of the hands, and the soles of the feet can sense light touch.
In response to a light touch on the sole of the foot, the fetus will bend the hip and knee and may curl the toes. ”
Those who wish to torture the innocent should subject themselves to the same treatment.
Dismemberment or burning with chemicals.
It’s not a fetus——–it’s a BABY!
fe·tus noun \ˈfē-təs\
: a human being or animal in the later stages of development before it is born
Even the online dictionary makes it clear that the fetus in the womb is indeed a human being! :)
If you look at the video, you will see it is a baby!
That is the point.
He or she is and has always been called a fetus at this stage of development in the medical world.
Please pay attention.
At earlier stages of development he/she is called an embryo – even by the Church.
If these pro-murder cretins still cannot understand what most abortions do to a living viable fetus (Latin for “little one,” “little child”), where were they in the class that (should have) taught the latest advances in embryology and fetology? Or am I naive to think that they have such classes? Has the pro-murder abortion industry so blurred, vitiated the moral sensibilities of these “herr Doktors” in South Dakota that they can not find any humanity in these innocent unborns at ANY stage of their gestation? Or is all this just the latest manifestation of the panic setting in with the pro-death abortion culture that the demise of Roe V. Wade is inevitable? Maybe a little bit of both? BTW, all kudos to Rep. Latterell for introducing this bill; I’ll bet he was a Republican, nothing disclosed his Party. God Bless, Markrite
When a fairly conservative state such as South Dakota acts in such a way, it shows that our nation is finished. We no longer respect life, and we no longer respect God. With this attitude, and only a few trying to defeat the immorality that is so commonplace, it can easily be deduced that our once Catholic/Christian society is no more. May God have mercy on us!
Pray the whole Rosary daily.
There are two U.S. Rosary devotions that are being prayed. One is the Patriotic Rosary which is available online. It is associated with the Medjugorje apparitions which is still under investigation.
The other is the Rosary for the United States of America. It is not available online but needs to be ordered.
The good folks of South Dakota have inspired us. It is time for a good California legislator to introduce a similar bill here.
Guaranteed, there will be no debate, no presentations. There will only be a kill-bill vote.
Yet, it is very worthwhile to pplace this before the DEMs.
