Faithful Catholics may be in for a “surprise” when they “get to heaven to be greeted by LGBT men and women,” said a controversial Catholic priest who was appointed by Pope Francis last month to the Vatican’s communications office.
Jesuit priest Fr. James Martin, editor-at-large of the Jesuit-run America magazine, made the comment on his Facebook page May 5 after posting a link to a pro-homosexual event put on by New Ways Ministry and calling it “another sign of welcome and building bridges.”
When one Facebook commenter responded that “any canonized Saints would not be impressed” by the infiltration of homosexuality within the Catholic Church, Martin replied that some of the saints are “probably gay.”
But Catholic saint and doctor of the Church St. Peter Damian called homosexuality a “vice” that “opens up hell and closes the door of paradise.”
The Catholic Church teaches that homosexual acts are “intrinsically disordered” since they are “contrary to the natural law” and they “close the sexual act to the gift of life.”
But, not only this: The Church also teaches that same-sex attraction is itself “objectively disordered” since God created sexual attraction to be between a male and female for the sake of procreation.
In this way, there is no such reality as a “homosexual person,” but only a person who struggles with the “disorder” of being attracted to the same sex. The Church teaches that everybody, including those with a disordered sexuality — often expressing itself in lust, masturbation, fornication, pornography, homosexuality — are called to chastity. That is, to the moral virtue of a rightly ordered sexuality integrated within the person.
The Christian faith holds that the homosexual act, along with murdering the innocent, depriving a laborer of his wages, and oppressing the poor, is one of the four sins that cries to heaven for justice. Those who commit grave sin can only enter heaven if they let go of their sinful ways, asking God for forgiveness and mercy. Jesus teaches that it is the “pure of heart” who will see God.
Martin recently published a book in which he outlines ways he thinks the Catholic Church should be building bridges of acceptance towards practicing homosexuals.
Last year he accepted an award from the pro-homosexual New Ways Ministry. During his acceptance speech, he said that the Church should embrace homosexuality’s “special gifts” and “lay to rest” language about the “objectively disordered” nature of homosexual inclinations and acts.
He has used his Twitter platform to support transgendered issues, such as boys using the girls’ bathroom and vice versa and has released videos on Youtube that advocate for the normalization of homosexuality in the Catholic Church.

There are no homosexuals in heaven because all earthly disorders are rectified by God in the glorified, risen human body. Anyone who suffers from same-sex attraction on earth who merits heaven will be a normal, healthy, whole human being in heaven, having been cleansed and cured of all disorders, moral and physical. Those who have mutilated their bodies by “sex change” surgeries will have a risen body that conforms to their birth sex. It is impossible for a homosexual to be in heaven as a homosexual or for a trans to be in heaven as a trans. Fr. Martin should know that. There will be males and females, but no LGBTQWERTYs.
You are my new hero.
Very well said – no wonder the average priest is not of much help to lay Catholics. They do not even know their own faith, or simply do not care anymore.
IF THEY ARE IN HEAVEN IT IS BECAUSE THEY PICKED UP THEIR CROSS AND CARRIED IT DAILY, IN OTHER WORLDS REMAINED CHASTE!!!
to be greeted by lgbt men and women in ; heaven’ is a good sign that you ran a touchdown to the wrong goalpost and aren’t there
once again we need walls, not bridges. the rabbis always said ‘build a fence around the law’ to protect from infractions and careless rationalizing of serious things
The author of the blog that was reprinted here should be cited.
The Church doesn’t need to build bridges, The Bridge built the Church. “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”
This poor man loves to enter into a dialogue with Satan. The fun never stops with Fr. James does it? So let’s just say “ok – you are right Father” – but we respond, “you won’t see any canonized saints who lived promoting homosexuality as a life style.” And don’t give us that tired old line that we are more enlightened in our era! Don’t forget, history tells us Nero was SO enlightened that he wore the wedding dress when he “married” a man. Our conclusion: take your modern theories and go fiddle with Nero. Leave the Church alone!
This article seriously misstates what the Church teaches.
If you’re referring to what the article states about Fr. Martin’s claims about heaven and salvation and the saints, then I most definitely agree with you, YFC. Fr. Martin has seriously misstated what the Church teaches. Thanks for pointing it out.
No YFC …YOU misstate what the Church teaches for your own gay/trans agenda….
“there is no such reality as a “homosexual person,” but only a person who struggles with the “disorder” of being attracted to the same sex” is not an accurate expression of Church teaching. In fact, there are numerous Church documents that refer to “homosexual persons”. This idea is yet another one designed by far right clergy to marginalize and exclude LGBT people from the Church.
No, you’re wrong, YFC: any document that refers to “homosexual persons” is not an authoritative Church document. Might you be referring to that travesty of the USCCB “Always Our Children”? That document has no authority whatsoever; it has not been recognized by the Holy See. Every document that matters always and only refers to persons with homosexual tendencies because the Church does not recognize homosexuality as an identity; only male and female are human identities. There are no homosexual persons; only people who struggle with the disorder of homosexuality That is the truth.
Folks, people like YFC will not be happy until sodomy is sanctified. They are the most devious and dangerous of the Church’s enemies, and they have compromised it from within, as can be clearly seen by this false priest Martin. We most confront them, and challenge them, if you see a rainbow flag in a parish, tear it down, if your priest’s sermons are gay friendly stand up and oppose him. Do everything you can to oppose this evil. YFC Error has no Rights.. and you are in error.
Furthermore, people with homosexual tendencies are the ones marginalizing and excluding themselves from the Church when they demand that their disorder be treated by the Church as an unalterable and God-given part of their human identity; it is no such thing. Demanding such a thing shows they are not interested in Christ nor his Church nor its authentic and true teachings. Fellow Catholics would be well to keep that in mind.
Bad language and a studied ambiguity, Fr. Martin. Some saints may have had same sex attraction (ssa), but with Christ lived chaste lives, just as other saints lived with their iniquities but conquered their respective passions with Christ. This ambiguous language could be read to mean that some lived out their sexual desires and are now in heaven unrepentant. Fr. Martin, please don’t mislead people with ssa to think that they can live out their fantasies and serve Jesus.
“They are blind guides: And if a blind man guides a blind man, both shall fall into the ditch.” (Mt.15:14)
And some saints were probably quite obnoxious in touting their wrongly held opinions. Took repentance and conversion to bring them to the level of sainthood.
I thought Fr. Martin’s job was to make Pope Francis’s words less ambiguous. Unfortunately, I think he’ll simply add another layer of confusion, thus making Pope Francis appear to be totally incoherent.
I find it interesting that the Papal spokesperson appears to be expressing personal points of view. Makes it hard for those of us in the pew to be clear which is which. I would expect that, while serving as spokesperson, Fr. Martin would totally refrain from expressing any opinion in any media which did not fully agree with the Papal point of view.
In a recent CC article on the odious Jesuit Martin, Fr Thomas Petri, OP responded to Martin’s unfortunate tweets with a crisp “Please Stop.” That term ought to be among the entry finalists in the Battle Cry slogan contest of the New Evangelization: “Please Stop.” My own favorite, pace Nike, is like it: “Just Stop.”
Fr Petri, please retweet.
The fun never stops in the modernist branch of the Roman Catholic Church!
Where’s “Jon” on all this? Has anyone ever noticed that “Jon” does not correct YFC on things he says, such as his push for so-called same-sex marriage. Jon just switches the subject or disappears completely.
Which proves “Jon” is a fraud …
Anne T,
It might be that Jon agrees with YFC on most subjects.
The Holy Roman Catholic Bible, Douay-Rheims is backed by Roman Catholic Church teaching. It does not lie. God does not deceive nor can be deceive. One only needs to read St. Paul’s Epistle to the Romans, Chapter 1 versus 27 through 31. St. Paul makes it very clear how offended God is by those who practice homosexuality, or even sympathize for those who commit it. God’s wrath is not pretty, and practicing homosexuals will be dealt with harshly if they don’t beg for forgiveness and amend their lives! Homosexuality is a behavioral disorder, nothing else! God does not make homosexuals, by their sinful chosen behavior they make themselves. God wouldn’t create someone to offend Him, God! It is crazy and illogical to blame God and…
