Awesome! Great to see that people are talking about it and that is it not a hush hush topic. I am grateful that we can read about people who care enough to defend life!
Although it is wonderful that this topic is being raised in those hallowed halls, 50 years ago it would have shocked even the most ardent advocates of personal liberty and/or women’s rights to hear this subject brought up at all in a public setting. Today we would be similarly stunned to learn that the subject of whether or not to extend a law allowing children to end the lives of parents at will. Why it is okay for parents to kill children and not okay for children to kill parents, I can’t defend. I’ve known more than a few parents who wouldn’t make the cut if it were up to the children. Deeply sad to say, that would probably have included my own severely abusive parents, who today would have been jailed for the shocking, violent and criminally abusive ways they treated me. Still, it would not be this writer who could have found any way at all to end their lives nor approve of any other person or institution doing so now or then. How much less does an utterly innocent, pre-born child merit murder than criminally abusive parents? Yet severely abusive parents murder their children, most, legally, while the child in the womb, others, illegally, while he or she is without. Only God creates life, and only God should end it, in His own time. This standard applies universally, even to those who are themselves murderers, living human beings who have dared defy God Himself in their bold, evil, narcissistic and deplorable disregard for human life, whether preborn, vibrant, imperfect, inconvenient, ill or aged.
More talk and no action. Must be sponsored by all those bishops who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk (i.e., enforce Canon 915).
How so Juergensen? If they debate about it and we have an excellent debater it actually opens that possibility to reach those from that higher education. I actually think that this is good and I pray that we have excellent debaters from our side and if we reach just one more person for the pro-life cause, I praise God…..
It was tongue-in-cheek. Although, it is true that this IS more talk with no action . . . which is what we see from the vast majority of our bishops.
Juergensen at a University level these debates sometimes do convert hearts, but isn’t this University secular? I get what you mean about our bishops but what does this have to do with them? I’m sorry I got lost at what you meant, forgive me, I am a big fan of most of your comments, I am not questioning you, I was just hoping for some clarity. God bless you always!
Some people are very passionate about saving babies and would like the opportunity or have the gift to be able to debate and defend life. Some have the very blessing to actually be in a position as this to debate and defend life.
How often do we find ourselves in this very type of situation? Not often, when I was in high school I was very passionate about defending life, evangelizing our faith, reaching out to my peers to attend my Catholic youth group….after that growing into my adult life I was blessed to reach out to some fallen away Catholics, evangelize to protestants especially since my husband converted, I learned a lot from his findings about the true faith, and then was lead to reach out to homosexuals, in a small way but I had the zeal back then but now…..I devote my time to my family and teens more. They need me but I would of loved to have had an opportunity as this mentioned here on this article to debate and defend the truth on moral issues! It certainty would of taken me out of my comfort zone. But today I don’t know if I’m worn out but I don’t have time to argue with people anymore……I am encouraged that this University is permitting this debate and I pray for an awesome outcome! Praise be Jesus Christ!
