The following comes from a June 3 story on the Christian Post.
A California public school called a Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff in Palmdale to reprimand a 7-year-old student for handing out Bible verses, warning that such actions are “offensive.”
Santa Monica Observer reported that the student, who attends Desert Rose Elementary, had been handing out Bible verses given to him in the form of short notes from his mother, Christina Zavala, alongside his lunch.
The young boy distributed the Bible verses while standing on a public sidewalks outside the school.
He also shared other verses and short Bible stories among his friends, until a first-grade teacher saw one of those notes. The teacher reportedly publicly rebuked the boy, and then called his parents, warning them that such actions go against the separation of church and state.
The boy, however, allegedly continued to distribute Bible verses out at the school gate, and subsequently he and his parents were told by the school’s principal that what they were doing is not permitted.
Later that day, a Los Angeles deputy sheriff went to the family’s home to inform the parents that Desert Rose Elementary School had filed a report against the child for sharing Bible verses.
The Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit litigation organization which specializes in defending religious freedom, has since sent a letter to the Palmdale School District to inform the administration of the correct interpretation of the clause establishing separation of church and state, arguing that pupils have the right to exercise freedom of speech through printed materials.
Freedom of speech is destroyed.
Perhaps the young lad could pass out tracts with mottos of foreign countries with reference to God. E.G, England – Dieu et mon droit (God and my right), Dominican Republic – Dios, Patria, Libertad (God, Country, Liberty), Iraq -Allahu Akbar (God is the Greatest), Nicaragua – En Dios Confiamos (In God We Trust), Monaco -Deo juvante (With God’s Help) to name a few. He can rightly say he is giving a history lesson to his classmates on Foreign mottos. He could pass out coins and explain the history of “In God We Trust.” Frankly, anyone who cannot understand the clause of “separation of Church and State,” should’t handle U.S. currency as it must be anathema to them as the the motto, “In God We Trust” appears on each piece of legal…
And once again our highly-magnified, thoroughly educated, expensively-supported public schools make themselves appear the south ends of north-bound horses.
Well, the 7-year-old sounds like a threat to me.
He’s an incredible threat to the hoped for status quo. Thank God! What an inspiring story.
I cannot imagine the boy EVER forgetting this lesson taught him by his teachers and the Sheriff’s Dept. What a blessing.
Had the teacher just ignored the situation the situation may have passed unnoticed and the boy passed on to some other activity. But being so vociferously told NO when one knows something is completely legitimate and right only fuels the truth and those who would pass it on. Similarly, seeing this boy being treated like a drug pusher will lend him a certain cache in his little circle. Everybody loves a rebel. Especially the little girls who will seek to resolve the situation because, after all, he’s a nice guy and…
…and shouldn’t be picked on.
Deo Gratias!
WOW. A school goes after a seven year old boy just for passing out the word of GOD. How many students at his age actually know bible verses?
In many if not most Protestant denomination kids start memorizing Bible verses in pre-kindergarten Sunday School.
Yes, they do, right along with “Jesus loves me this I know because the Bible tells me so”; “Jesus love the little children, all the children of the world” and “Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, Jericho, Jericho. Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, and the walls came tumbling down”. A whole lot of Catholic children have been taught these, too, by the little books and CDCs their parents and grandparents buy for them at Christian and secular book stores. Let’s hear it for Veggie Tales. Hooray! for Veggie Tales.
I wonder if this little guy will get invited to the White House like the pseudo-bomb maker from Texas.
After all, we do need to encourage the young to be smart, strong, innovative, etc.
Does the seven year old understand that passers-by have the equal right to ignore the hand outs?
More proof that the public schools in California are part of the Gigantic Left Wing Freak Show!
In ‘Catholic’ Italy, parishioners were told by Church officials not to pray the Rosary out loud because the newly arrived Moslems would not like it. This is true, even though it sounds like something from THE TWILIGHT ZONE or THE OUTER LIMITS. Ave Maria Purrissima !
Where did you get such nonsense? Did you make it up? Is it some rumor you heard?
Not made up, anon. — https://www.breitbart.com/london/2016/06/06/parishioners-told-pray-silence-migrants/
It’s not nonsense k-anonymous. It’s fact. Also, It is not just courageous seven year old public school children who are swooped down upon. Try as a faithful priest, or lay person, to teach Catholic doctrine and morality at many Catholic universities, high schools and grammar schools and you’ll soon experience the *let’s pretend “we’re acting as if we are in in full communion method* of swooping down to silence the truth. You can also travel diocese to diocese and find a great lack of compatibility with Church teaching, leadership, and silencing methods of swooping down on those who dare to teach the full truth.
Anonymous, this has been quite an interesting news item! I saw it on television, and read it in the newspapers! It also was reported on EWTN. Maybe you can look it up, and see for yourself! Catholic Italian parishioners saying the Rosary, silenced because it might offend some new Muslim immigrants?? What a HORSE LAUGH!! And what did the Italians do, when the new Muslims had their big five daily prayer services??
The Muslims have a leader with a big voice, who ascends to a high place in a local mosque, and calls Muslim worshippers to their daily prayers, five times a day! He has to chant his Muslim call to prayer, very strongly, so all may hear it! Their first call to prayer, is early in the morning, and the last one is at night. To hear this daily call to prayer, five times, for many Italians, would be perhaps disturbing— as they are not used to it, culturally.
More than a hundred years ago, the school day in America’s public schools began with a prayer. Children were familiar with Bible verses, and Bible stories, and the revered Family Bible, was found in almost all American homes! Most American families belonged to a church, most children were baptized, and many learned to read, with the family Bible! Our Judeo-Christian civilization was the backbone of our Nation, from its inception, and the Holy Bible was known and understood, as the cornerstone, on which our great country was built, along with our secular documents, such as the Constitution and etc. All of our rights and freedoms were understood, as coming from GOD– and NOT from Man!!
Our churches/synagogues all need to guide our Nation straight back to her Judeo-Christian foundations, and return to regular church/synagogue attendance, and solid, regular religious and moral training! Then, we will all have the hope of a great country once again, led by God, for His Divine purposes, which are a great gift to us! The parents of this little boy, in the news story, need better instruction, in more effective evangelization, for today’s world. It is not fair, to subject their child to so much stress, humiliation, and possible danger, too!
Which of the founding fathers were Jews? None: because Jews didn’t start making a home here in any numbers until the later 19th century. This notion that there was some kind of Judeo Christian foundation to our country is just a sort of romantic notion. At the time of the Declaration of Independence there were only about a thousand Jews in all of the Colonies. So this revered place that we have given Jews in our “Judeo-Christian” foundations is a fabrication of theists who want to pretend that other religions are not part of our culture and who want to falsely exhalt the Christian motivation of the revolutionary era, which was almost entirely a secular venture.
YFC:
Not from the standpoint of New England, the flashpoint and origin of the Revolution. The Puritan disdain for monarchy and love of self-government was religiously inspired (or at least fueled). They saw the chance to recover in 1776 what they lost in 1660. That God would bless good government and punish those who did not conform to His Law was an old idea with them. Read the speeches of Adams, Jefferson or Lincoln to see that theme. Their notions were not precisely Catholic, but they were Biblical.
Exactly, Tom Byrne, I am descended on my mother’s side from those who started the first thirteen colonies. Many of my ancestors were deacons, soldiers, blacksmiths, farmers, an assemblymen in the Hartford Connecticut Assembly, among other occupations, and they are recorded in many historical records. Their first names were Biblical names, Solomon, Elijah, Joseph, etc. Judeo-Christian merely means that the foundation of Christianity is Judaism.
Regarding my last post, I meant “Isaac” instead of “Elijah”, although I probably have an ancestor with that name too.
YFC– The term, “Judeo-Christian civilization,” is a common term, to mean that the basis of our Western European civilization, is the Biblical foundation– with Christ, and the Bible, being the most ultimate Source. Jesus Christ is viewed by Christians, as the long-prophesied Messiah, promised to the Jews, in Biblical history!! Both Jews and Christians accept the Bible– although the Jews do not accept the New Testament. In America, freedom of religion was promised to all– and Jews were free to settle here! President George Washington even wrote a letter of welcome to one of their communities, seeing to their needs.
We don’t have a Judeo-Christian tradition in Europe either. There are very few places in which Jews and Christians got along until well after the Crusader era. I’m just not even sure what people are talking about when they use the term. It’s just a made up romanticized term that is completely a-historical.
YFC:
It’s an American Protestant term, that’s true. But we have an American Protestant culture, and the term attempts to indicate the continuity of the moral law between the Old and New Testaments. You’re over-analyzing it if you try to carry it further.
Are the ten commandments romanticized, YFC? Really? Perhaps you should read the posts above and ask your teacher to explain them if you still don’t understand what’s been written.
Thanks again for the stellar illustration.
YFC, I am currently taking a class on the American Constitution, taught by a leading professor in the field. If you take such a class, in the fields of history, or political science, or humanities– every day of your life, you will read and hear, all about our “Judeo-Christian Civilization!” Western Civilization! It is very unique, with Biblical roots going back to the Jews of the Old Testament! By contrast, other civilizations (Koran-based Muslims, or Confucius-based Chinese) have an entirely different basis!
Recently, I read of a well-educated Muslim man, who came to settle in the West, with a good job. He became interested in Catholicism, and wanted to convert. He went to see the local priest with some difficult problems– he had arranged marriages to several women, (polygamy) and children by each to raise! None of the Western nations allowed polygamy, and there were no laws to govern this, and the children. In Catholicism, we believe in a marriage of love, between one man and one woman, and no divorce. Well– the Muslim man had quite a predicament to figure out, prior to Baptism!!
Ann Malley once again you put words in my mouth.
YFC– God will avenge this terrible “hate crime,” this killing spree– the WORST in American history! That is why our Nation must return to FAITH IN GOD, regular church-going, upholding our Judeo- Christian heritage, teaching morals, and a good moral conscience, to all American schoolchildren, and no more leftist-liberal baloney, with crime— the criminal MUST get his just punishment, and hope to SCARE THE HECK out of all would-be crime “copy-cats”!! A HOT SEAT IN HELL IS WAITING FOR ‘EM!!
YFC, a long time ago, I had an elderly relative, who had Protestant neighbors, who tried to persuade her to join a group at their church, to prove that Jesus wasn’t a Jew. It was an anti-Semite group, and made everyone laugh until tears rolled down their faces! This was during Prohibition, and this group also tried to prove that Jesus never drank wine, either, or any alcoholic beverage. Yes, we do have a Judeo-Christian civilization– and some folks would like to delete the “Judeo” part!
The wonderful class that I am taking on the American Constitution, is one of a series of the foundational classes, in the curriculum of Hillsdale College, in Michigan. All of these classes are outstanding! And recently, Hillsdale College decided to offer them all online, for free, to help guide America’s return to our true, original foundations! Hillsdale is Protestant– and it also has the same, exact beliefs about religious freedom, and the same moral position– as our Church! Dr. Larry Arnn, the President, teaches these classes on videos, and he is an outstanding speaker! Hillsdale stands for God and religious faith, and is building a new Chapel on campus. I will continue..
I will continue, with my above post. Hillsdale College has publicly supported the positions of our Church, on the dreadful Obamacare lawsuits. They are Protestant, deeply traditional in Christian morality, and I sure do wish the Jesuits and many others of our religion, would do like Hillsdale! They take NOT ONE PENNY from our government, for their college– they are completely independent! They also do not operate by “affirmative action,” but by the truth of each individual’s ability and achievement, regardless of race, creed, or etc. They do not “fill affirmative action quotas,” they educate all! They stand up for America’s true heritage! And they are deeply dedicated!
Hillsdale College, established in 1844, was the first college to establish in its charter, prohibition against discrimination based on race, religion, or sex, was famous for its anti-slavery position during the Civil War era, and was the second college to grant a four-year degree to women.
‘GALLUPING’ CATHOLICS
https://www.churchmilitant.com/video/episode/vort-2016-06-13?
When the question was asked if each of the following practices was morally acceptable, here is the percentage of Catholics who said yes.
Abortion: 38%
Doctor-assisted suicide: 47%
Out of wedlock childbirth: 59%
Homosexual relationships: 62%
This is beyond deplorable. This is a near-complete and total collapse of the Church in the United States. That noise you hear is the flesh being torn from your sheep by ravenous wolves…
In one part of the survey which asked about the moral acceptability of cloning animals, more Catholics found this more morally objectionable than abortion, doctor-assisted suicide, out-of-wedlock births or gay relationships…
Common Sense Turned on Its Head Once Again
https://www.crisismagazine.com/…/bathrooms-now…
Once again common sense has been turned on its head in our culture, this time by transgender activists agitating for people to be able to use the bathroom that they feel corresponds emotionally to their self-identified gender rather than the anatomical gender of their biological sex…
– transgender activists would have you believe that their politically correct ideology is based on science; however, the American College of Pediatricians has pointed out that transgenderism is classified as a mental illness and therefore has warned legislators and educators that conditioning children to accept transgenderism as normal is child abuse.
They…
