Students all over the state have returned to school, and now is an excellent time for parents to research and review the opt-out options available for specific curricula in public schools.
According to California law:
– A parent/guardian has the right to examine the curriculum materials of any class their child will attend. (Ed. Code 51101, 51938)
If any part of a school’s instruction in health conflicts with the religious training and beliefs (including moral convictions) of the parent/guardian, the student shall be excused from the part of the instruction that conflicts with the parent/guardian’s religious training or beliefs. (Ed. Code 51240)
– In grades 1 through 12, a school may not administer a test or questionnaire/survey with questions about personal beliefs or practices of the pupil (or their parents/guardians) on sex, family life, morality, and religion, unless the parent is notified in advance, in writing, and affirmatively gives permission for the child to participate. (Ed. Code 51513)
– A parent/guardian of a pupil (in grades 7 through 12) has the right to excuse their child from all or any part of comprehensive sexual health education, HIV prevention education, and assessments related to that education. Before exercising this option, parents/guardians also have the right to be notified about planned instruction and to review those materials before the instruction takes place (Ed. Code 51938, 51939). If a school district elects to provide sexual health education below grade 7, it should be age-appropriate, and parental rights designated for grades 7-12 are in effect.

From Archdiocese of San Francisco Respect Life Ministry
Let’s hope and pray that they mean what they say.
Gotta make sure the Catholic schools are not infiltrated by this filth either. Catholic schools must uphold and teach the Church’s moral teachings and fire teachers who refuse to do so.
It is very good that the archdiocese did this. Parents are the primary educators of their children, regardless of school choices they make, and most Catholic children attend public schools.
Do parents have the right to opt out of the leftist indoctrination religion classes at Catholic high schools?
They do. Opt out of the entire school if it claims to be Catholic and isn’t.
Don’t subsidize corruption of our sacred Faith.
Now they’ll need a law protecting families and children that “opt out” from marginalization and harassment by faculty and students…opt out…what a farce. Makes it sound like kids are choosing between salad or soup….when what they’re opting out from is irrational ideology….
I can’t really see how the lessons illustrated in the cartoon above would be advisable. Just the use of vegetables as dildos is not a good idea, just ask any emergency room employee. I was able to find what SFUSD puts up about the issue, and they do use the book. But they also have lessons on human trafficking, relationships, families, etc. which we all ought to applaud. And parents can opt out of any lessons they object to. The provisions also insist that it is the family who are the primary instructors in matters of sexuality.
I remember an old interview with the singer in British rock band dumbfounded at the age of the young girls backstage doing oral sex and he asked “How do they know they know how to do this? Do they teach it in the schools?”
I certainly agree about the misuse of vegetables, and condoms have a high failure rate for the prevention of pregnancy and some of the STD’s go right through them. People who are using drugs and alcohol are not going to be careful. When left on docks in boxes in hot countries for too long, they deteriorate and people are often told they are safe, which is criminal. Parents need to let their children know some of these things at grade level.
Corrections: “When condoms are left on docks ….” (third line) and “at the right grade level” (last line).
ROFL
Banana (with the peel)
🤣🙌
I opted mine out. After talking with the teacher (this was in a Catholic school) she told me she could not control what the kids asked or said.
This is how they describe their progam: “Be Real. Be Ready.” was developed to address the knowledge deficit left behind after decades of teaching young people abstinence-only sex education. This inclusive and current approach to sex education goes beyond explaining anatomy and reproductive organs. The curriculum challenges students to consider what they want from a healthy relationship, how to assess various levels of risk, what are the most effective measures for birth control, and how to navigate conversations about sex with peers and romantic partners.
Please, no.
