The following January 16 story appeared on LifeSiteNews.
The Seventh-day Adventist website ADvindicate has recently drawn attention to the fact that La Sierra University has named a new economics centre after abortionist and gambling magnate Edward C. Allred, who in 1980 claimed to have personally aborted a quarter of a million babies in twelve years.
In 2010, La Sierra, a Seventh-day Adventist University in Riverside, California, established the Edward C. Allred Center to promote free market economics among high school students. The centre’s abortionist namesake founded the Family Planning Associates Medical Group in 1969, a chain of abortion clinics that reportedly makes $70 million in revenue and $5 million in profit annually.
“It hardly seems possible that La Sierra University, which still purports to be a Seventh-day Adventist school, would name anything after a man who has left such a trail of wreckage in his wake,” wrote David Read of ADVindicate. Read described Allred as “a man who made his fortune eliminating two generations of humanity, and now spends his days devising ways to separate gamblers from their money.”
The university issued a press release about the controversy stating that “La Sierra University benefits from the generosity of a wide variety of donors—Adventist and non-Adventist.”
University Relations Executive Director Larry Becker told LifeSiteNews that a proposal for naming a new building or centre of learning is considered “on its own merits.”
He quoted the university’s Naming Policy, which states, “Naming Opportunities provide a means to honor personal contributions, service, and achievement of the honoree as well as their contribution of resources to support the University.”
When asked if it compromised the education of La Sierra students to name a centre of learning after an abortionist, Becker stated, “Students continue to learn important economic principles through the programs operated by the Center for Financial Literacy and developed by School of Business faculty members.”
….In an interview with the San Diego Union in 1980 (where Allred claimed to have personally aborted a quarter of a million babies in twelve years), he also spoke candidly of his reasons for advancing abortion.
“Population control is too important to be stopped by some right-wing pro-life types,” Allred said. “Take the new influx of Hispanic immigrants. Their lack of respect of democracy and social order is frightening. I hope I can do something to stem that tide; I’d set up a clinic in Mexico for free if I could. Maybe one in Calexico would help. The survival of our society could be at stake.”

And you thought it was sometimes excruciating to read about the behind-the-scenes activities of Catholic clergy? At least they aren’t naming university centers after abortionists and other murderers. I wonder why the Seventh Day Adventists didn’t go bold and name their La Sierra University center for the study of economics after Satan himself rather than a mere perpetrator of enormous evil against humanity.
Obviously Edward Allred is in step with many free-market, anti-immigration advocates. There is no shortage of institutions willing to take his money. I’m relieved it wasn’t a “Catholic” institution who did it this time.
Sadly, we Catholics are not the only ones enduring shocking and bizarre news about our leaders.
The website by Kathy Shaw, which is called ABUSE TRACKER I believe, each day reveals shenanigans of Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Protestants, etc., whether it is sex, money, or whatever.
She seems to have started out only calling the Catholic Bishops to accountability, but then widened her scope to other religions and not just priest: coaches, volunteers, teachers, counselors, the whole gambit.
I usually try to check out recommendations of contributors here, and I would highly recommend giving this anti-Catholic, liberal and jaundiced view of traditional and faithful Catholocism a miss. Here’s just one little quote…”
KC’s Catholic bishop {Finn} is criticizing the one religious publication that has heroically protected kids, exposed corruption and deterred wrongdoing – the National Catholic Reporter.”
Definitely in keeping with mazx’s really strange views. The supporters are all liberal lawyers and politcos and it gleefully reports all the various shortcomings of priests and bishops. Definitely anti-Catholic and saying she’s holding our bishops to accountabilty is like saying Stalin was rather cross about the Russian Orthodox Church. She’s out for blood. Funny, but there’s no mention of Nancy Pelosi’s support of abortion or any of the extremely amoral activities of our potentate in chief. You really revealed yourself this time, mazcxxx. ta, ever so.
We are all guilty of bad will. Not just Catholic leadership but also from other sects and cults. God have mercy on us all. This world is wicked! But if we look at the roots of who are the biggest promoters, I would feel ashamed if we had anything to do with it. God help us.
When I see ANY OTHER RELIGION produce saints like Fr.Vianney, Catherine of Sienna, Mother Theresa, and on and on and on, then perhaps we can lump Catholocism in with all the other sects. Individually, most of us fall very short of the glory of God, but our Church affords the riches and truths of all the ages and the possibility of becoming saints. I don’t find that anywhere else. And by using the phrase “other sects and cults’ you’re putting us in the same category. There is the Catholic Church and then there are sects and cults and denominations. What’s happening here, anyway?
Okay I stand corrected. : ) must be the wrong verbiage I used…You can remove the word other and maybe what I wanted to convey would be a better tone of what I actually meant.
All I know that is that people have told me that it was a Catholic group who hijacked the word gay to now mean what it means today,(not to mention the rainbow too) that many so called Catholics are the biggest promoters of abortion and yes the famous words are “why are our bishops not excommunicating them publicly” oh no not at all but some have fancy dinners with them that are publicly aired. Sects are watching and some follow and some actually live their Christian faith as they see it Biblical.
Our faith is the true faith and it’s perfect but it is imperfect due to humans running it their way.
Yes those who are faithful are saints and praise God for God’s faithful but yet the scandals and sins permitted are in the spot light because WE ARE THE TRUE Faith, we have to witness and set a good example of the true faith, unfortunately today many Catholics keep that separate and leave it at home.
SICK!!
7th day Adventists are as anti catholic as outfits come, but it seems they are not immune to the devil either.
Not anti-catholic? I don’t what you mean by “as outfits come”, but their founder, Ellen White, held that the Church is the Whore of Babylon and that the Pope is the Anti-Christ. (Her claims are found in “The Great Controversy”, which she wrote, it is available in Google books. See especially Chapter 3.)
Money is more important than right and wrong, more important than eternity, more important than God – to many, apparently this includes the Seventh Day Adventists at this university.
