The following comes from a Sept. 9 email sent by Priests for Life.
Bodies of aborted babies are disposed with medical waste and incinerated. Sometimes they are dumped into trash bins or fields. In one infamous case in California, the bodies of 16,443 aborted babies were found in a locked storage container outside a private home. A three-year court battle led by the American Civil Liberties Union ensued to prevent the babies from being granted the dignity of a proper burial. Eventually, they were laid to rest with the respect they deserved.
Similar scenarios, in smaller but still shocking numbers, have taken place across the nation in the 40 years since Roe v. Wade made the murder of the unborn a legal right. On Sept. 14, memorials will take place at gravesites of aborted children all over the country to grieve what we, as a nation, have lost, and to pray for the souls of these most innocent crime victims. Three organizations dedicated to ending abortion are organizing the memorials: Citizens for the Pro-Life Society, Priests for Life and Pro-Life Action League.
“Since 1973 over 50 million unborn children have been killed and only a small fraction of these victims were humanely buried because pro-lifers took them from the trash,” said Monica Migliorino Miller, director of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society. “These graves puncture the landscape and are a tragic and visible reminder that we must end the injustice of abortion. Memorial services, right at the graves of the victims, will be a powerful public witness to our nation that abortion truly kills innocent human beings, and serve as a call for justice, healing and forgiveness.”
The website AbortionMemorials.com has been established for the Sept. 14 services. There, visitors will find the heart-breaking details of many of the burials that have taken place over the decades and information on planned services. Some sites still need someone to step forward to organize a service, and those willing can find the information they need to get started.
“It’s sobering to realize that grave markers for the unborn victims of abortion list only a date of burial,” said Eric Scheidler, executive director of the Pro-Life Action League. “They have no birthdays because they were never allowed to be born. We can list no date of death, because those who killed them discarded their bodies like garbage. But they are not garbage to us. They are our brothers and sisters. That’s why we buried them, and that’s why we visit their graves to mourn for them and testify to their humanity.”
The inhumane treatment of the victims of abortion is not something that just happened in the past. Right now in Philadelphia, the Medical Examiner’s office is refusing to allow a proper burial for babies killed – many outside the womb – by the now-imprisoned abortionist Kermit Gosnell. Priests for Life has named these babies and has requested permission to bury them, but the Medical Examiner insists the babies will be cremated, privately and unmourned.
“In the light of the trial and conviction of Kermit Gosnell and the passage by the U.S. House of Representatives, and various states, of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the reality of late-term abortion has been brought into clearer focus for the American public,” said Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life. “Awareness of that reality leads to a logical question: What is done with the bodies?
“The National Day of Remembrance builds on that question and strengthens that awareness, creating a focal point for our grief, both national and personal, and for the education of future generations. These services also will provide opportunities for an urgent call to healing after abortion for the women who have suffered from this terrible choice and the extended families left wounded in its wake.”

This is a special little prayer leaflet for mothers while they are pregnant. There is a sweet photo of a baby on the front with this beautiful and powerful prayer on the back of the leaflet.
PRAYER TO MARY
I put my little babe under your protection, Mary my Mother. Make it’s tiny mind grow up to love the truths of the faith; consecrate its will to the service of God; fill its heart with love for its Creator, Fashion its little body in all perfection: let its organs be sound, its senses acute, all its members strong and healthy. You can obtain this favor for me and my child most powerful Mother. I put my trust in you. Amen

Catherine that is a beautiful prayer….God bless you
Thank you Abeca! That prayer is as powerful as it is beautiful. God bless you too, sweet sister in Christ for recognizing the beauty in that prayer to our heavenly mother.
Catherine as I was scheduling my OBGYN visit, the Sharp Reese Steally, near the city that I picked, I said I didn’t want an OBGYN that performs abortions and the women there said that Sharp does not perform abortions! Wow I didn’t know that. I was so happy to hear that.
It’s a powerful prayer, Catherine. Sometimes it is just so overwhelming at the atrocity, the barbarity of a mother choosing to have her own child murdered in her womb (though as is too often the case, it is NOT her decision), a society that forces us to pay for such acts and the indifference of so many people, just as the Germans were to the horrors of the death camps. What have we become? “This is what the LORD says: “A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”Jer.31
The people who stand outside the abortuaries and pray, the relentless work of so many in pro-life work and the legal and medical people who soldier on daily in their effort to bring light and hope to those who suffer from having abortions or performed them etc. is so encouraging. Our prayers are not in vain! Remembering these tiny ones is an incredible step in getting the truth out to a society who either doesn’t know or doesn’t care.
Imagine the grief of fathers whose children were murdered in the wombs of their mothers without their knowledge or permission. This actually happened to my paternal grandfather, whose young wife did not want a second child, had a secret abortion, and died as a result of the botched abortion. Unbelievably, it happened again to my brother, who begged for his child not to be aborted, but again without his knowledge or agreement, suffered the shock of the news that his baby had been murdered that day by its own mother.
Imagine the grief of fathers and mothers who have suffered physically forced abortions by outsiders opposed to the birth of their children. This has happened throughout history to those who came before us, is happening in China even today, and has happened here in the United States as recently as 1961, an incident of which I have personal knowledge.
Imagine the grief in heaven watching God send us precious babies, only to see us murder them by the millions.
Will the madness never end? Where is the outrage in our society today? This is the worst civil war in American history, and I fear it will either change the world forever into uncaring human beings or go on longer before the insanity is finally stopped.
Maryanne, yes, it is absolute madness.
Abortion is a crime that cries to heaven. In the US, abortion is an ongoing crime that dwarves the Nazi holocaust. It is our very own mark of Cain. Even worse, our government is hell-bent on exporting the blessings “a woman’s right to choose” across the globe. We have an entire political party totally committed to its perpetuation. There are elements within our society advocating the extermination of mankind for the benefit of Mother Earth; people who consider mankind a plague and parasite preying on a pristine natural world. Some of these outrageous theses are propagated by academics in our elite colleges and universities, especially in Women’s Studies courses. At this time, we are on the losing end of the battle. As long as the democrat party is the predominant political force in the US, they will control the courts, the Department of Education, and all institutes of higher learning. If Catholics really wanted to reverse this course, they would stop electing liberals.
Ronald Regan, a republican, opened the flood gates of abortion in California, and then promoted Sandra Day O’Connor to the Supreme Court. The republicans are just as bad. John O’Neill, Monrovia , CA.
I pray for God’s wrath against these murderer’s they are not worthy of His Mercy
We do not know how murderers of children will be judged by the Lord on Judgment Day, but I share your outrage that it is now legal in these United States for a woman to murder a child, as long as she does so in a timely manner. This is the land of the free, where each American citizen is endowed with inalienable rights, except the right to live long enough to be born. No wonder pagans like Russia’s arrogant leader dare to lecture the United States on morality. He just missed the most glaring moral failure in our history and chose to focus on those politically and economically useful to him to do so, not those failures of profound significance to over 50 million Americans now dead due to abortions performed by murderers and their accomplices. I understand why in rage, people denounce others with the words, “May you rot in hell!” While it is highly questionable to spit out such vile thoughts, it is hard to see how child murderers can escape such a fate. Even jailed child murderers and molesters are in mortal fear for their lives from violent attacks from other criminals.
