The following comes from a Nov. 5 story in the L.A. Weekly.
It was a rough night for Democrats, and here in L.A., there’s one more disappointment for national Democratic activists. Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown law student who rose to fame when Rush Limbaugh called her a slut, was trounced in her bid for California state senate.
Ben Allen, a Democrat who serves on the Santa Monica-Malibu school board, beat Fluke 60.8 precent to 39.2 percent in semi-official results. As of 1 a.m., Allen still had not officially claimed victory, though the county Democratic Party had congratulated him on the win.
In 2012, Fluke became a symbol of the “War on Women,” after Rush Limbaugh lambasted her as a “slut” and a “prostitute” for testifying to Congress in favor of contraceptive coverage. The controversy made her a political celebrity, and she ended up campaigning for President Obama and speaking in prime time at the Democratic National Convention.
But in her race for state Senate, women’s issues took a back seat to issues like jobs, the environment and education. Allen did not disagree with her on contraception — or on almost anything else — but he did have deeper roots in Los Angeles politics.
Fluke is originally from Pennsylvania, and has only been active in L.A. politics for two years. She had never before run for office. Allen grew up in Santa Monica and served for six years as a school board member. Throughout the campaign, he emphasized his local roots as the defining difference between himself and Fluke. He also won the vast majority of local endorsements.
“She is completely new. It kind of looks like she parachuted in,” former Santa Monica Mayor Denny Zane told the Weekly in September. “She might share our values, but we don’t know her.”
Fluke was able to raise more than $1.2 million, much of it in small donations from out of state. But Allen also raised $1.1 million, and had the benefit of an additional $1.3 million in independent spending from Bill Bloomfield, a retired businessman.

The “War on Women” are those who wish to USE women as sexual objects and then take none of the responsibility – thus supporting abortion, contraception, voluntary sterilization.
Even some women promote the using of women.
MOST DEMOCRATS and some Republicans want to “use” women.
Women are not and should not be treated as sexual objects.
Sin is not liberating.
Alica, I agree! Sandra Fluke and Nancy Pelosi are tools of the Devil himself! Rush Limbaugh had no manners– but he was 100% correct!
FLUKE – Just another student of GEORGETOWN School of LAW,
and another lover of Obama.
Let her pay for her own contraceptives.
If she chooses Hell that is up to her.
Her political loss could not have happened to a better person.
Can we get laws passed that would make it ILLEGAL for those “OUT of STATE” (non registered voters) to contribute to State and Local Political offices ?
I like the idea, but it would probably be struck down as a violation of freedom of speech.
Another upstanding product of a great Jesuit university. :P
In her original speech about the need for the government to pay for all contraception for women, she inferred that she was often sexually active. At the time I wondered when she had time to study. Nobody mentioned that no contraceptive totally prevents sexually transmitted diseases, some of which may be fatal.
Yep, she admitted to a life of “fornication”, and wants everyone else to pay for her birth control.
She will be back.
She is too valuable to the devil.
Pray for this poor woman; she is lost and her soul is in jeopardy. Unfortunately, Ms. Fluke exemplifies the Liberal view that this Country owes them a gold=plated living (beyond merely the paying of contraceptive costs). She sees the electorate as her provider, giving her a well-paying job even though she can do little (except whine and demand).
Her loss should give everyone a better appreciation of the voting public. Similarly, just look at the myriad of sons and daughters of politicians that clamor for positions, particularly the Kennedys. Are there any that have actual gifts to give to the Congress or to State legislatures? Many are unfortunately elected, and they continue to do little but the famous whine, all-the-while stuffing their pockets with public money and benefits. And, by what reasoning is Chelsea Clinton worth what she is paid by the media and other businesses? Simply amazing.
Susan, do you want to give up freedom? Neither you nor the government should tell me how to spend my money.
Poor Sandra. Does this mean that she will have to get a paying job? If she does, She can have Obamacare and that will pay for her contraceptives. Hopefully, cutting back on her “social life” will not be too difficult for her and she can now concentrate on working like regular people. My advice to Sanda is “Get a Life”.
Coming from a Jesuit university, she definitely was not a fluke……..there are plenty
more just like her graduating from those so-called “Catholic” universities.
Who would trust a woman who got up in public and told the world she is sleeping with her boy friend and expects the American tax payer to pay for it and her friends do too?
She reminds me of a young woman in a bank line who was talking to a friend so loudly on her cell phone about another friend that the whole bank could hear her. She was blabbing away about how her other friend and her friend’s boyfriend were moving from their old apartment into a new place and all the problems they were facing. The line was very slow that day, and after about fifteen minutes of hearing about her friend’s private life, I could not help myself; I turned to the woman behind me and said, “Thank God, she has not used her friend’s last name or mentioned her address because we now know all about her private life.” The woman behind was just as disgusted, too. I was going to tell the woman using the cell phone after I was finished, “With friends like you, who needs enemies,” and tell her why, but she got out of the bank too fast.
Regarding my last post, I would have told the woman with the cell phone more politely, but I would have let her know that the inside of the bank could hear everything she said about the other woman if a person was not hearing impaired.
