On December 11, 2012 the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted 10-0 (with 1 supervisor absent) to pass resolution #121172, declaring January 26 to be a celebration of the Roe v. Wade decision, and expressing support for a “Celebration of Women, Life and Liberty” rally to be held at Justin Herman Plaza. Since the anniversary of Roe v. Wade is actually on January 22, and January 26 happens to be the date of the city’s Ninth Annual Walk for Life West Coast, the resolution seems targeted more at the Walk for Life than a commemoration of Roe v. Wade.
Eva Muntean, co-founder of the Walk for Life West Coast, noted the disconnect: “Although the mainstream media virtually ignores the Walk for Life West Coast and the 40,000 + people we have brought to the streets of San Francisco, it appears the San Francisco Board of Supervisors does not. Why else would they choose January 26, the day of the Walk for Life, to commemorate 40 years of Roe v. Wade when the actual anniversary is January 22?”
The move is eerily similar to 2005 actions by then-mayor Gavin Newsom and the board of supervisors, which they took in response to the First Annual Walk for Life West Coast. Those proclamations backfired, encouraging behavior on the part of San Francisco pro-abortion activists of such a nature that even the San Francisco Chronicle was forced to take notice. The behavior was so bad that none of the mainstream pro-abortion groups, such as NARAL or Planned Parenthood, chose to associate themselves with the protestors in the following years.
Each year since 2005 the Walk for Life has grown, from 5,000 in 2005 to an estimated 40-50,000 in 2012. The same growth has not been apparent among the protestors: in 2010 San Francisco’s well known photojournalist “Zombie,” (who calls himself pro-choice) estimated a crowd of 80 counter demonstrators. In 2012, another San Francisco photojournalist “Protestshooter” documented the protest of the Walk for Life West Coast at Justin Herman Plaza. He also counted 80 attendees.
On December 12, 2012, one day after the unanimous passage of the resolution, the Walk for Life West Coast issued a response. The response included this quote from Dr. Alveda King, SNMA, niece of slain civil rights hero Dr. Martin Luther King, and a speaker at the 2008 Walk for Life West Coast:
“To ignore the pain of millions of women and their dead babies who commiserate 40 years of abortions under the yoke of Roe v. Wade is an admission by the Supervisors that they devalue women who don’t count in their books. Their sense of injustice is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Ms. Georgette Forney, president of Anglicans for Life and a co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness campaign, which supports women who have suffered the pain of abortion, also responded, and she invited the supervisors to join the Silent No More event on January 26 at San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza:
“The hypocrisy of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to endorse the Trust Women group while ignoring the voices of women who have been hurt and exploited by abortion is sad and reprehensible. I challenge the Supervisors to attend the Silent No More Awareness Campaign event that will occur at the same time as the Celebration of Women, Life and Liberty and hear the reality of abortion instead of pro-choice rhetoric.”
This year’s Walk for Life West Coast is expected to draw over a dozen Catholic bishops. Guest speakers include Lacey Buchanan, a young mother whose YouTube video about her blind son went viral and has touched over 11 million viewers; Elaine Riddick, a woman who was forcibly sterilized at age 14 under orders from North Carolina’s Eugenics Board; the Rev. Clenard Childress, founder and director of www.BlackGenocide.org; and Kelly and Matthew Clinger, a post-abortive couple who share their story about the heartache and pain caused by life in the music industry, divorce, addiction, and abortion.
Everyone – please share this non-religious, scientific web site with all others:
” ENDOWMENT for HUMAN DEVELOPMENT “.
By 9 weeks and 3 days, (Motion and Sensation) –
” the fetus can also grasp an object, move the head forward and back, open and close the jaw, move the tongue, sigh, and stretch.
Nerve receptors in the face, the palms of the hands, and the soles of the feet can sense light touch.
In response to a light touch on the sole of the foot, the fetus will bend the hip and knee and may curl the toes. ”
This means that the unborn baby feels pain.
Celebrating the torture and murder of the innocent is barbaric and absolutely evil.
Great website reference, Mike. Thanks for the tip!
We live in a sick society when you have a board of Supervisors “celebrating” the killing of babies. Just a point on the part of Liberals and others, if you are concerned with women, don’t you understand you are “killing” female babies? And the same goes for the gay community, if you believe that 10% of the population is gay than how can you support killing babies that may be gay?
Janek, a lot of gay people are against abortion. I doubt that many gay people are having abortions. I am against abortion and this includes abortion against babies who may have a biological disposition towards homosexuality. I find it sick that people would organize a celebration of Roe vs. Wade. Celebration of Women, Life (???!!!) an Liberty. Do the organizers catch the irony in that statement?
Such attention from our enemies is almost complimentary, for contempt for an impotent enemy is usually expressed in the political order by silence. What are they worried about, do you think, all these decades after an apparently overwhelming victory for their side (the side of Hell)? Do we make them nervous and why? I’d like to know so I can keep doing it!
This is so disturbing and sick that I really don’t know what to say.
So they’re celebrating the killing by suction of my 12 week old daughter. How Californian of them.
Gather the FAITHFUL and join the Walk for Life…….The Young People attending is way up and that will be how this terrible law will be overturned……Please Lord, Please.
Only in San Francisco could I ever have believed a story about properly elected officials dancing on the graves of murdered human babies.
So when will Archbishop Cordileone OFFICIALLY ex-communicate the alleged Catholics on the Sad Francisco Board of Supervisors?
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Huge kudos are due to NINTH ANNUAL WALK FOR LIFE WEST COAST, which obviously is doing great work for the pro-life side ( I believe that we should find a way to incorporate the fact that MOST who work for pro-life should find a way to incorporate their anti-contraceptive convictions into our various pro-life titles, i.e., ‘PRO-LIFE ANTI-ABORTIFACIENT MARCH ON WASHINGTON’, or some such), but CONDEMNATION to the
cretinous San Francisco Board of Supervisors for their pro-murder proclamation re the “celebration” of ROE V. WADE.But what else could a person expect from a bunch of secularized hacks than such an act? For isn’t “SODOM-BY-THE-BAY” kind of KNOWN for such noxious celebrations as this? And their annual orgy of evil known as “gay pride” day? And WHAT will Bp. Cordileone do about this? He’s now in the “BELLY OF THE BEAST” city where everything depraved is celebrated. We might finally see what he’s REALLY made of, will he CAVE in some way to these mind-numbingly depraved yahoos that populate so much of S.F. or will he proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ the way bishops should? As always, the ‘proof will be in the pudding’, so to speak; I’m betting the good Bishop will MAN UP and proclaim the gospel, and let the ‘devil take the hindmost’ (never quite knew what that saying meant, it just seemed appropriate at this point) GOD BLESS ALL, MARKRITE
This is demonic doublespeak on the part of the SF supervisors: celebrating killing of the unborn and calling it a celebration of life. Celebrating the denial of all liberty to our brothers and sisters in the womb, and calling it a celebration of liberty. The communists and Nazis couldn’t create doublespeak any better than that. War is peace! Hate is love! Oppression is freedom!
But it comes from a deep psychological need to try to justify taking innocent human life…because everyone knows, deep down, that abortion is taking an innocent human life. That is also why the pro-choice side becomes so vicious and hysterical even at the sight of images of the unborn. We all know, we all know. And the more we learn about embryology and the development of human beings in the womb, the more we know. It’s one of those things you Can’t Not Know.
The underlying idea seems to be, “maybe if we say this is a celebration of life and liberty for women, we can somehow finally be at peace about it.” But it will never happen, because peace comes through truth. And the truth is that abortion is horrible and we all know it.
The way to peace is for us as as individuals, and as a nation, to get brave, admit we’ve been horribly wrong for the last forty years, and start respecting every human being’s rights, from conception forward. There is always a better way than abortion. Always. It’s time for us to choose the better way. And that is when healing comes.
