A high-ranking member of one of the largest teachers’ unions in California published a satirical letter Monday mocking parental calls for curriculum transparency, demanding a detailed report of the content and influences children are being exposed to at home.
Owen Jackman, a delegate to the California Teachers’ Union state council and a teacher in Sacramento City Unified School District, wrote a sarcastic Facebook post deriding parent concerns about progressive pedagogy, suggesting that parental rights are equal or subordinate to teachers’ rights in education.
Addressing parents who advocate for their kids at school board meetings as “storm troopers,” Jackman jibed that “I have a reason to be concerned about the appropriateness of what your child is learning outside of school.”
Writing tongue-in-cheek, he requested parents provide a play-by-play of the television shows their kids watch, the social media they use, swear words and racial epithets their kids hear each day, the books being read to them, and activities they will participate in for the remainder of the year.
The teacher also asked for a “thorough description of how the relationships among the adults in your child’s life are displayed in front of your child” as well as “tallies” of the motivational vs. judgmental words said to kids in the household.
Mocking parents’ efforts to uncover the radical race and gender ideology being promoted in classrooms, Jackman warned that instructors would “set up a meeting” with parents who don’t report back.
Wrapping up the taunt, Jackman wrote: “This may seem like a lot at first, but I’m sure it will become routine after only a few weeks, and we really need this transparency to ensure that your child receives the education they are entitled to.”
Since their eyes were opened to the reality of critical race theory and gender ideology in K-12 schools, many parents have spearheaded grassroots campaigns to reclaim control over their children’s education and demand accountability for their tax dollars.
Responding to the surge in parental protests at school board meetings, Attorney General Merrick Garland directed the FBI to investigate an alleged rise in criminal harassment against teachers and administrators. The order was issued in response to an October letter from the National School Board Association which labeled the dissenting parents “domestic terrorists.” The NSBA later apologized for the inflammatory language and subsequent reporting revealed that the organization had coordinated with the White House while drafting the letter.
Earlier this month, President Biden called Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill “hateful,” declaring his support on Twitter for “every member of the LGBTQI+ community — especially the kids….”
The above comes from a Feb. 23 article in National Review.
Teachers Union..AKA money launderers for the Democrat party
Do public school teachers work for the public, including parents (and other taxpayers)?
Or, are parents subjects of the teachers unions?
How arrogant of parents to think they know and care more about their children than paid “professionals” who spend a few hours a day with them and 20-25 others for 180 days every year. Leave decision making, in all areas of life, to “experts.” Democracy, liberty and parental rights are simply too dangerous to entrust to the majority of parents. After all, teachers should be able to pry into the private lives of those who pay them and have no one hold them accountable or expect that they act transparently.
When will enough people learn: only vote R; never vote D? People who vote D and regret it when the country goes bad need to learn that the country goes to pot when Ds are in charge. Just like now. So only vote R. Always vote R. Never vote D.
These extreme liberal-leftist, absolute fools, of the teachers’ unions– who have no moral conscience, and no respect for parents– ought to all be fired, and prevented from ever holding a teaching job, ever again.
Sorry, in my comment of Mar. 1, at 12:00am, the word “Corrupt” in the moniker was misspelled!
Just another tone deaf, un-self aware progressive bureaucrat. The bubble they exist in prevents them from being aghast at what they address to real, everyday people. But I’m guessing this guy knows that the parents he’s addressing are low income mostly disenfranchised parents that have no power against him and his fellow bullies.
But what is really telling is the lack of critical thinking skills when he draws such a false equivalency between a parents right and obligation to socialize their child and an ‘educational’ bureaucracy’s desire to indoctrinate them.
“tongue in cheek”? Tell me another one.
why do parents hand over their kids
to abject delusional losers like this?
Should parents have a say in what is taught to their kids in schools, public or private? That’s easy. Yes, of course! What is complicated is determining what should be taught, how it should be taught, when it should be taught, who should teach it, and who should audit to make sure everything is going along as planned. We try to make it easy for ourselves. We elect a school board to run the schools. We are a republic, remember? The board hires the principals who manage the teachers, who teach the kids what the board decides should be taught. So, if parents don’t like what the school is doing they can complain to the board and/or vote the board out of office. Step one, however, is knowing what is being taught in schools. CRT isn’t taught in our schools, it just isn’t. Parents who complain, it is their right to do so, at least owe it to those to whom they are complaining to know what they are complaining about. I’ll just guess that 99% of those who complain about CRT don’t know what it is, couldn’t identify, or recognize it. What most don’t like is the fact that our history isn’t being taught the way it was when the parents went to school. It is no longer taught as a white-European history, but as it really happened.
Ah Bob One and his leftwing talking points. ” It is no longer taught as a white-European history, but as it really happened.” You Bob One like so many other liberals are filled with such self hatred it is staggering. CRT basics come down to this blacks good and oppressed, whites evil and oppressors its really that simple .
