Yeah, everyone who puts a Ukrainian flag on their profile pic gets the Nobel peace prize this year.
God loves both the Ukrainian and Russian people. One of the most beautiful Russian chants is “In the Dark Night”. One can find it on line sung in Russian with the English text by googling “English Words to ‘In the Dark Night’, Russian chant”.
St. Nicholas of Myra, you who helped save three young women from prostitution by your giving of alms, pray for the Ukrainian and Russian people, and all of us, and for an end to this war.
Correction to my last post. “In the Dark Night” is a Ukrainian chant, and the “Hymn of the Cherubim” a Russian chant, both fantastically beautiful.
Sounds wonderful Anne. Is there a link to a version that you find particularly moving? I came into the room as the Ukrainian national choir was singing their national anthem – on SNL no less, and it was quite moving. Thanks in advance.
No favorite as all the websites have the same black-haired, black bearded, lighter skinned tenor monk from our schismatic brethren (aka Othodox) cantoring, whether in the actual church or used as a video in another church. Regarding “Hymn of the Cherubim”, the one with the stained – glass windows of a church has the best sound on my computer and the most basso profundos. Probably sung by the Soviet choir, but my hope is that the meaning and beauty of the music will soften and convert hearts no matter their past sins, and they become more Christlike in the future..
There is also a website of a man with a deeper voice singing “In the Dark Night”, but the one I was referring to was the monk from the Svetogorskaya Monestery in the Ukraine. The same monk sings Orthodox chants on another website with a frontal view of him instead of side view. There are also beautiful Christian chants in all languagues online. Just anything one would want to hear.
