The following comes from a Sept. 30 story in the Deseret News.
On Sunday, the Roman Catholic Church’s Synod of Bishops will begin a two-week conference designed to investigate how church doctrine impacts families.
Although any decisions made during the sessions will only formally impact Catholics, a new letter to the synod from conservative intellectuals and religious leaders indicated the conference could potentially influence a larger debate over the institution of marriage.
The letter, addressed to the “Holy Father (Pope Francis), eminences and excellencies” of the Synod of Bishops, was sent directly to officials in Rome, as well as posted online. Titled “Commitment to Marriage,” it applauds the Catholic Church’s efforts to revisit and enliven its teachings on family relationships, referring to marriage and the family as “vehicles of salvation and as bulwarks of human society.”
The conservative signatories — including Rick Warren of California’s Saddleback Church and professors at high-profile American and international universities — emphasize the numerous ways marriage appears threatened in the contemporary world, citing high rates of divorce and cohabitation among unmarried people, among other concerns.
Crux, the Boston Globe’s dedicated Catholic news site, noted that, while the letter does side-step specific issues like gay marriage, its message is clear: “Now is the wrong time to go soft (on established teachings.)” In other words, the letter calls for the synod to find new ways to strengthen established teachings rather than pave the way for dramatic changes.
“Overall, the thrust of the letter appears to be to suggest the synod’s time would be better spent considering how to support couples striving to live church teaching on marriage, rather than debating amendments to that teaching,” Crux reported.
Fourteen married couples were invited to join the synod, composing just 11 percent of the 253 total participants, America Magazine reported in early September. The pair from the U.S. are Jeffrey and Alice Heinzen. He serves as director of natural family planning in the diocese of La Crosse and she is a member of the natural family planning advisory board of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The letter ended with several suggestions for discussion topics, including finding a way to incorporate research on the “social benefits of marriage” into seminary courses and sermons or paving a path to reconciliation for “married couples who are separated or have been divorced by civil courts.”

Somewhat ironic that a non-Catholic pastor would be more forthright in defense of the Faith than most bishops and priests IMNSHO.
Thanks Pastor!
Remember that CRUX is the blog of the Boston Globe, and that John Allen recently/formerly of the heretical “National Catholic REPORTER” is its main author.
We do not need to rely on heretical publications including “America” or “Reporter”, or CRUX for our news. They will always put their own spin on articles, and sometimes advocate against Church teaching.
Here is the list of participants of the Synod from the VATICAN web site.
It does include some non-Catholics.

I saw Rev Rick Warren on EWTN.
He and his wife love Mother Angelica, and they pray the ‘Divine Mercy Chaplet’ with EWTN almost daily.
There are some good Christian Protestants who follow Jesus better than some Catholic Cardinals/Bishops – such as heretics – Kasper, Danneels, etc,.
– “Thou shall not commit Adultery” – God’s Commandment
– “Thou shall not covet thy Neighbor’s wife” – God’s Commandment
– Teachings of Jesus about divorce and remarriage – Mk 10:6-12; Mt 5:32.
– Teaching of Jesus about adultery, mercy, and required repentance – “Go and Sin No More” Jn 8:11.
.
It is NOT MERCIFUL, or CHARITABLE, or PASTORAL to ignore, condone, or confirm people in their Mortal Sins.
(In this case Adultery – choosing to continue a sexual relationship with the valid spouse of another. And Sacrilege against the Body and Blood of our Lord.)
Un-repented mortal sins send Souls to Hell for eternity.
Cardinals and Bishops who support people in their Mortal Sins – will join them for they are wolves in sheeps’ clothing.
Kasper, Danneels, and Wuerl and Cupich, etc., all support Sacrilege against the Eucharist in violation of 1 Cor 11:27-30.
CCC: ” 1868 Sin is a personal act. Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them:
– by participating directly and voluntarily in them;
– by ordering, advising, praising, or approving them;
– by not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so;
– by protecting evil-doers. “
Oscar,
You rightfully name the dissenters Kasper, Danneels, Wuerl, and Cupich, but where does that leave P. Francis I who has elevated them to high positions?
“the truth shall set you free” Jesus Christ. He did not say that burying our faces in the sand would set us free!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika!

OSCAR,
It is good that you have rightfully named the dissenters Kasper, Danneels, Wuerl, and Cupich, but where does that leave P. Francis who has elevated them to higher more influential positions in the Church and demoted and crucified true defenders of the Faith?
Our Lord said: “the truth shall set you free”. He did not say: “putting your heads in the proverbial sand will set you free”!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika!
Viva Cristo Rey!

Headline should read:
“Protestant Ministers more Faithful to Jesus than some Catholic Cardinals.”
The only reason that some Cardinals/Bishops can get away with their heresy
is because they do not actively encourage those within their Diocese
to read a Catholic Bible and the ‘Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition”.
Their people are ignorant of their Faith due to their Bishop’s lack of teaching. So whatever heresy the Cardinal wants to promote becomes their new Faith.
The Pope needs to excommunicate Cardinals/Bishops who advocate against the teachings of Christ and His Church.
Code of Canon Law 184 – 196
” LOSS OF ECCLESIASTICAL OFFICE ”
” My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;
because you have rejected knowledge,
I reject you from being a priest to me.
And since you have forgotten the law of your God,
I also will forget your children.”
Hosea 4:6.
The “CRUX” SPIN separates Catholics – trying to call them Conservatives, Moderates, and Liberals.
This is a carry-over from the heretical “National Catholic REPORTER”.
They love to label people and cause division and confusion.
In reality, there are only two kinds of Catholics: – – – “Faithful” vs “Heretics”.
The Faithful (to the teachings of Christ and His Church) are labeled “Conservatives” by John Allen of the CRUX.
A “Moderate” is Bishop Cupich (who supports Sacrilege – receiving Holy Communion while in the state of Mortal Sin) according to John Allen’s label.
And God only knows what he considers a Liberal / Progressive.
Oh a new line for the Greek Chorus: Calling people by what they are – conservative, homophobic, liberal or whatever is simply divisiveness and not reality, and only ultra conservatives are truly catholic.
hogwash
The Greek Chorus, in case you do not know, is the part of the Greek Tragedy that can ‘see’ the tragic action that the main characters are blinded to…. hence the tragedy, mous. The Chorus attempts in vain to warn the protagonists who are ‘doomed’ to carry out their role.
So in this case, if you’d like to be one of the tragic characters headed blindly toward the cliff while the Chorus warns of the splat at the bottom, go for it.
God bless Fr. Bob B for introducing such an elevated term to give significance to the ignored characters in the play. Because ‘ignored’ is precisely what they are to the doom of many. So tragic.
Only those who follow the teachings of Jesus and His Church as stated in the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church are truly Catholic.
Those Catholics who do not adhere are Catholic HERETICS.
One way in which the Church could help married couples is by valuing, not marginalizing, the single vocation. The unmarried brothers and sisters who are truly single–not in “relationships”–become the aunts and uncles who fill in so many gaps, not least taking care of the elderly parents. And all without special tax benefits! Yet the church, as does society, seems not to know what to make of them or what to do with them. Imagine a synod, even an encyclical, on the single vocation.
Agreed.
FANTASTIC POST, Caroline! Those living a pure, single life in the world is blessing to the entire Church! A walking witness to grace in action.
So much for Tradition.
“…So much for Tradition.” Not sure what you mean by that. But there is nothing ‘untraditional’ about being a chaste, single person.
Ann Malley, Tradition had 2 vocations-matrimony and Holy Orders.
Later, the vocation of a single life dedicated to God has been welcomed. It is not just about being chaste. See this from the Diocese of Green Bay website:
Life as a single person can be a vocation from God! It is not simply reserved as the last “default” option, but the single life can be the way we serve God and one another.
“The vocation to the single life is a vocation to generosity. Single women and men usually have more freedom than those in other vocations. They tend to have more time, energy, and sometimes money to give themselves in service of God and others. Single people can become examples of great service and generosity. Often it is single people who do so much to make things happen. The vocation to the single life is a gift to the Church!
With their freedom, a single person has a vast array of possibilities in front of them. We encourage you to explore this diocesan Web site to discover ways in which you can become involved and give your life in generous service!”
Anonymous, there have always been single maiden aunts and the like. And, yes, purity of life would be expected for said person to be giving good example to the Faith. So whereas you may be advocating for some new idea of a calling to the single life – some manifest vocation intended to make single feel special – my reference was that there is nothing inherently disordered or dismissive that can be said of the single life. The term vocation in truth was only traditionally intended to mean the ‘calling’ to the religious life with marriage being the ‘natural’ default. In the Church, however, all are called to live in accordance with their state in life, being fruitful in the ways that are open to each.
As to your post, I don’t know who the ‘we’ is who is supposedly encouraging me. Whoever that may be, however, I’m not single and therefore not at liberty to pursue a single vocation.
God bless! And if you are single and living in accordance with your state in life, great!
As to your post, I don’t know who the ‘we’ is who is supposedly encouraging me. Whoever that may be, however, I’m not single and therefore not at liberty to pursue a single vocation.
Seriously? You did not understand that?
I wrote that, Anonymous. And I’m writing this too, in all sincerity:
Be well. And you may want to take Fr. Bob B’s advice and rethink your intentions for health’s sake if nothing else.
God bless.
Mary our Mother, pray for us.
This is a comment on Caroline’s post. Before Vatican II, single Catholics past the usual age of marriage, would often say, “I am married to the Church.” Some would eventually marry– but if not, they felt very dedicated to the Church, regardless! At that time, our Catholic Faith was very strong, and we also had a very stable society! Most young Catholics chose either marriage, or religious life. I think the biggest problem, is that our society disintegrated, after the hideous, diabolic 1960’s— and Christian morality and family life were no longer sacred. Also, when the modern “rat race” began, the fast pace of daily life, (in the post-war era)– life was no longer at a natural pace, nor socially-oriented, and family-oriented, with good values. Many people had lots of money, “freedom,” and desired dreams- come- true– but were lonely and miserable! I think our modern way of life is unhealthy, and the Church is too corrupt and undependable, to support good, practicing Catholics– single, married with families, or widowed! (It is very hard and lonely, for widows, and widowers, too, of all ages!!)
I will make one more reply to Catherine’s post. I think the greatest thing the Church could give to everyone, single, married, widowed (etc.)— is a good, honest, dependable, “practicing Catholic” Church! With no more excuses for refusing to practice her Faith, as laid down in the Bible, Catechism, Code of
Canon Law, etc. Give us only good, solid, “practicing Catholic” popes, bishops, priests, and nuns! Give us only good, solid, “practicing Catholic” schools, hospitals, charities, and other Church endeavors! Then, no matter what your marital status is– you will find lots of worthwhile things to do, to serve God, together with others who are dedicated Catholics! People will be integrated deeply into the Church, as they once were, although our society fell apart, and they will again have a place! Our society then, can slowly recover, as more and more Catholics, Protestants, and perhaps others, recover their strong religious faith, Christian morality, and traditional marriage and family life.
Sorry– but when I made my second reply– it was to Caroline’s — not “Catherine’s” post! I am now thinking of Mormons, who try to maintain a strong church, despite the evils of the modern world, and Southern Baptists, who do likewise, as well as strong evangelical groups, Billy Graham’s organization, and people like the Amish, who live a restricted, rural life, apart from our modern world, to preserve their religious and family values.
What does it take, to live a good Christian life, as a single Catholic, in the corrupt Church and corrupt world, of today?? A strong, dependable, “practicing Catholic” Church, with excellent, dedicated leadership, is what we need, to start off with!
SINGLE VOCATION –
1 Cor 7:32-35
” I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to please the Lord; but the married man is anxious about worldly affairs, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided.
And the unmarried woman is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit; but the married woman is anxious about worldly affairs, how to please her husband.
” I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord. ”
CCC: ” 1658 We must also remember the great number of single persons who, because of the particular circumstances in which they have to live – often not of their choosing – are especially close to Jesus’ heart and therefore deserve the special affection and active solicitude of the Church, especially of pastors.
Many remain without a human family often due to conditions of poverty.
Some live their situation in the spirit of the Beatitudes, serving God and neighbor in exemplary fashion.
The doors of homes, the “domestic churches,” and of the great family which is the Church must be open to all of them. “No one is without a family in this world: the Church is a home and family for everyone, especially those who labor and are heavy laden. ”
CCC: ” 2349 People should cultivate [chastity] in the way that is suited to their state of life.
Some profess virginity or consecrated celibacy which enables them to give themselves to God alone with an undivided heart in a remarkable manner. Others live in the way prescribed for all by the moral law, whether they are married or single.
Married people are called to live conjugal chastity; others practice chastity in continence:
There are three forms of the virtue of chastity: the first is that of spouses, the second that of widows, and the third that of virgins.
We do not praise any one of them to the exclusion of the others. . . . This is what makes for the richness of the discipline of the Church. ”
JESUS was Single.
Mary remained a Virgin.
Paul wrote (1st Cor 7:1-5) : “It is good for a man not to marry. But since there is so much immorality , each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband,”
I have never married, partly because I never found the right woman to complement my somewhat eclectic personality; but Also because I believe it is the Duty of a Father to provide the basics for his Children (Shelter, Clothes, Food…) – even if he must severely compromise his conscience.
As one made a Pauper (repeatedly) by targeting pogroms of the Gaystapo Alliance – stalked and retaliated against for failure to sing praises of the ‘Emperor / Empress’ New Clothes’…
– It mattered not how Outstanding my Job Performance (widely recognized even by detractors) -but because I will not bow down before their Evil and pretend to be politically correct when they demand obedience to the ‘Eichman Rule.’ – Termination has been my lot.
Eichman was a Homo-Nazi Clerk who sent untold millions to horrid deaths from his cozy office, and defended himself in the traditional way of Pilate washing his hands; saying along with so many of his cohorts “Es War Mein Befehl” (It was my Duty – I was only Following Orders).
My Duty is to God – and if God ever provides me a Good Woman (Herself Undaunted by Gaystapo Retaliation) I may change my mind, even when entering late innings in the game.
BTW – Any Yentas for Courageous Gamblers still out there?
May God bless Rev Billy Graham, and Rev Rick Warren.
I am finding it very interesting that what the Catholic Church does is of interest and concern to non-Catholics, not only in this article but in secular articles as well as posted comments all over the internet.
It appears that the Church is considered a bell-weather regarding morality, and principles, and following the teaching of Jesus.
I hope the Church does not let them (or us) down.

Thanks for your posts, Michael McDermott, and standing firm in speaking out about that which we must be aware. I would say it amazes me how many would seek to distract from the very real issues which you outline, but then, I’m not surprised at all. Those are the same that seem to enjoy wallowing in the evil odors if only to ignore the source. Just another hi-jack.
Have ya ever noticed how malley takes a word used to describe conservative posters here, then just for the fun of it uses it to describe the person who used it in the first place. I call it Malley Bingo. She does this almost every time. This time, it was a two-fer: “wallowing” and “hi-jack”. Play along with the small minds here. It’s FUN!!!
I don’t think it’s fun. I think it is depressing.
Thank you, mous, for showing your colors yet again. Absolutely not conservative, and absolutely not coming to the defense of anything Catholic or supportive of Catholic moral teaching, but wallowing in hijacking, absolutely. That and standing firm in the dismissal of and the distraction from truth.
Sadly, the FUN of pandering to small minds and smaller hearts is precisely what Rick Warren and the like are praying the Catholic Church will ignore. Don’t let the ability to post, much like the ability to speak, at the ongoing Synod fool you.
See now we are “wallowing in hijacking”. And she throws in my discussion of “small minds”. Ann’s good at this malley bingo thing. I got three on one tiny thread. One more and I got the diagonal!!!
Thank God for the non-Catholics who see more clearly the ‘mous’ attempts to hijack Mother Church. Even the rocks will cry out soon enough.
Thank you AGAIN Michael McDermott for exposing the rotted underbelly that is even now determined to shut down even a simple post on CCD with denial.
The myriad ‘mous’ or ‘us’ are showing just how threatened they are. Good :)

Card. Kasper: Christ’s adultery language is offensive! Fr. Dodaro: No, it’s Christ’s tough love. POLL

I find it very disconcerting that Pope Francis would appoint Kasper, Danneel, and other heretics as main presenters at the Synod.
And now we are being told that none of the prepared statements made by anyone at the Synod will be made public,
and that those attending will have to vote the entire document up or down – even though there will be good and bad included.
And today at the last minute, they announced the entire Synod will be in Italian rather than the Latin.
Then they have the nerve to state that this is all in an effort to be transparent !
Do they think we are stupid, or that things can be hidden with today’s instant media ? Or maybe we don’t know what the word “transparent” means ?
How can they expect us to “trust” them (when they allow some of their contemporaries to go against the teachings of Jesus, Himself.)
GAG RULE in effect regarding written prepared statements –
” There were several complaints from journalists about the new (gag) rule, which many said demonstrates a lack of transparency.
Frustrated by repeated pointed questions about the matter, Cardinal Baldisseri replied to another reporter who pushed on the matter, “You should come up here if you know everything, maybe you should be a Synod Father.”
https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/you-should-come-up-here-if-you-know-everything-cardinal-fires-back-as-press
Thank God for freedom of the press.
All this and the fact that the Pope appointed a Commission prior to the SYNOD to streamline annulments –
Is the fix in ?
Pray for the Church, my friends there could another schism in the making.
Thanks for posting the link, Catherine.
You are welcome Ann Malley!
Many people are called by God to give witness to His Word and to His plan for the salvation of Mankind, and many are not Catholic. Rev. Rick Warren and many others including Rev. Billy Graham, Rev. Walter Hoye, and the like, are certainly men of God, given their public devotions and “putting it on the line” attitudes about many critical things, such as abortion. Instead, we have a largely feckless group of bishops and many Cardinals that often give great scandal to the Church and to God by their behavior and craven, weak-kneed attitudes on virtually every issue that requires them to stand in the public spot-light and proclaim that God’s way is different from what is daily proclaimed in today’s media. Thanks to Rev. Warren for his courage and leadership.
I fully agree. There are some Protestant leaders who follow Christ much more closely than some Catholic Cardinals and Bishops.
This is truly sad, since all Catholic leaders have
1. The Bible;
2. The Catechism of the Catholic Church;
3. Code of Canon Law;
and many other official documents from the Church.
It should be a no- brainer for them.
Pope Francis, this morning, called for bold discussion at the Synod. He also called for willing listening. He is very much interested in making the Church more Synod-centric rather than a church run by the Curia alone. We as members of the flock need to be prepared to listen to that with which we don’t agree, to propose that with which we do agree and know that in the end Christ will reveal the direction we should take. But, if are to become a Syndicalist church, there will be many more opportunities for these discussions about diverse subjects. Pope Francis has even hinted at the idea of some Curia departments being located out of Rome, perhaps in Africa, etc.. He has suggested that some Curia positions could be held by lay people. Discussion we will have. Changes we will have. I wish I was fifty years younger so I could see where this all ends up. We are still trying to implement V II, imagine what the church will be like in another hundred years.
Only the Curia gets to vote.
And that is appropriate.
With the exception of his heretical speakers – Kasper and Danneel, everyone else only gets 4 minutes to speak to the Synod.
Pope Francis agrees with some Bishops that Bishops should have just as much authority as the Pope.
That is not what Jesus taught.
If God gets fed up enough, there might not be another 50 years.
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;
because you have rejected knowledge,
I reject you from being a priest to me.
And since you have forgotten the law of your God,
I also will forget your children.” Hosea 4:6
God promised there would not be another world-wide flood; He did not promise there would be no other type of destruction – nuclear, earthquakes, astroids, or something we can not even imagine.
Jesus said we will not know the day nor the hour.
The further implementation of Vatican 2 will bury the Church once and for all….undo Vatican 2
Jesus appointed a Pope as head of the Church, not a Synod.
If it is God’s will and people go against , there might not be an earth in 50 years.
God only promised it would not be by flood – so all you climate change folks can relax.
But it could be earthquake, nuclear war, asteroid, or anything else we can not imagine.
Jesus said we will not know the day or the hour.
“Bob One”: History will show Vatican II “implementation” to lead to our present circumstances of being a time of great crisis in the Church. (Bishop Athansius Schneider called our times as representing “one of the four great crisis” in the Church’s history.) The present Synod is a structure that can only lead to significant decay in the already fragile transmission of the Faith. People are now becoming radicalized in that almost all Catholics understand that the World is demanding that the Cathoic Church conform to the “new paganism” that now rules Mankind. Pope Francis needs our prayers; he seems lost and inattentive to the Holy Ghost. In fact, Pope Francis is among the “first fruits” of Vatican II, being entirely a creature of its design and philosophy. Remember, we do not worship a Pope — although a Pope is very important. And, we have had a fair number of men that simply did poor jobs as the Supreme Pontiff. Yet, when the chips were down, you could see the insistence of the Holy Ghost in having His way with the Church: “Humanae Vitae” is a prime modern example, coming as it did under a disastorous Papacy of Paul VI. Francis may want to move the Vatican to Copacabana Beach, but that does not make it right and proper. Look at the foolish men that the Pope is listening to: Cardinal Kasper, who is reviled by many other cardinals; Cardinal Wuerl, who refuses to follow Canon Law in giving out communion to political leaders that laugh at the Church while demanding that all of us respect their “Catholicism”; and many others. (How, for example, does it work that Nancy Pelosi can put herself forward for communion while referring toe the right to abortion as “sacred ground”; ditto John Kerry and Joe Biden, who favored abortion rights and homosexual sexual demands?) Your post is unanswerable: one of us is in the wrong Church.
Bob One,
How do you know the Pope wants to turn his power over to the Synod? (All the Curia works at the will of the Pope.)
Isnt’ this against what Jesus wanted?
We all profess to follow the teachings of the magisterium. That is made up of the Pope and the Bishops. We know have a meeting, Synod, of the Pope and Bishops trying to discuss family life.
Bob One, most will agree that the Bishops need to discuss their own Sins of Omission (and sometimes commission), in not teaching the Faith accurately and completely.
And the best ways to get the Word out to ALL the people.
They do not publically, actively, and frequently encourage all literate Laity over age 15 to read a “Catholic Bible” and the “CATECHISM of the CATHOLIC CHURCH, Second Edition” at home.
Instead in changing their own ways – which requires WORK – some want to change the Faith to suit their own sins of not teaching – accurately and completely.
” My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;
because you have rejected knowledge,
I reject you from being a priest to me.
And since you have forgotten the law of your God,
I also will forget your children. ” – Hosea 4:6
Little did Rick Warren realize that one day the reason for his ‘Purpose Driven Life’ would be to charitably remind the shepherds of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church founded by Jesus Christ to always remain loyal to the teachings of Christ. One can only imagine Rick Warren’s or Walter Hoye’s words after receiving the Blessed Sacrament. There is a time for each purpose under heaven. God writes straight with crooked lines.
Epistle of ST. Paul to the Romans Chapter 8:28]
“And we know that to them that love God, all things work together unto good, to such as, according to his purpose, are called to be saints. [29] For whom he foreknew, he also predestinated to be made conformable to the image of his Son; that he might be the firstborn amongst many brethren. [30] And whom he predestinated, them he also called. And whom he called, them he also justified. And whom he justified, them he also glorified.” – Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible
