A San Mateo County official is pushing to stop a Chick-fil-A restaurant from opening up in Redwood City,” reports CBS Local news. “The McDonald’s restaurant on Whipple could soon be tuning into a Chick-fil-A, making it the chain’s 13th restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area.”
San Mateo County supervisor David Canepa told reporters he is seeking to prevent the restaurant from obtaining an “architectural permit” due to its founder, Dan Cathy, previously expressing support for traditional marriage and for donating funds to pro-marriage groups.
“This would not go before the city council — because it’s an existing use, it would just be administerial for the planning commission,” Canepa said. “When people think of the Chick-fil-A logo — what they think of is anti-LGBTQ.”
Canepa hopes the community pressure will be strong enough to persuade Chick-fil-A away from doing business. “What we are trying to do is to make sure Chick-fil-A — if they want to do business here — that there is a lot of pressure here and that they should do the right thing and withdraw their application,” he said.
Craig Wiesner of the San Mateo County LGBTQ Commission supports Canepa in his quest to stop Chick-fil-A from opening in the city. Ironically, he told reporters in the very same sentence that city government should not prevent companies from conducting business while simultaneously calling on the community to prevent Chick-fil-A from conducting business.
“I don’t think that we should necessarily be regulating what businesses can open in Redwood City, but I do think that as a community, we can stand up and say we don’t want this particular business which has taken a very open stand against LGBTQ people and spent millions of dollars against us at the heart of our county,” Wiesner told reporters.
The CBS report noted that Chick-fil-A’s in the Bay Area have faced scores of protests in recent years. Advocates have even suggested that a future restaurant outside Mineta San Jose International Airport should be forced to hang rainbow flags in solidarity with LGBTQ pride.
A Chick-fil-A spokesman told the outlet in a statement: “We are committed to earning the respect and business of all our customers, and one day hope to serve guests in Redwood City.”
The above story comes from a June 6 story on the Daily Wire.
Forced to hang flags abetting filthy behavior? Like the Austrians had to fly swastikas after the Anschluss? What country am i living in?
Hang tough, Chick-fil-A!
“When people think of the Chick-fil-A logo — what they think of is anti-LGBTQ.”
When I think of the Chick-fil-A logo — I think of morality.”
I think of chicken and some of the funniest ads run during college football season :)
…and I think of a company that’s aligned with family values.
Um, I just think of chicken.
Well we all know what people are called who insist on telling people where they can buy and cannot buy, and how they can think or not think. They are called dictators. And we all know what happens to dictators. People sooner or later get tired of them dictating, and they get thrown out.
Going to buy myself some chicken, even though I am not crazy about chicken. I do wish Chick-F-A had kept their chicken salad sandwiches, though, as that was one of my favorites.
I called San Mateo County at (650) 363-4653, and told them that all people should be treated with equal dignity, love and respect– however the “LGBT” agenda is very dangerous for the community! Wonderful that Chick-fil-A stands for Christian values and Traditional Marriage!– a tremendous help, for the community! Many kids and teens eat at fast food places, or work at them– and this could be a good influence for them! Things like drugs, pornography, promiscuity, and gay sex– all destroy lives- and destroy a community! Let’s have more Bay Area businesses that promote good values, regardless of the owner’s religious beliefs!
I, myself, am an animal-loving vegetarian— but will make a point to get lunch, or a snack– at Chick-Fil-A– because they stand publicly, for Christian values!– specially Traditional Marriage! I will request their fresh lemonade, cole slaw–and a veggie sandwich!. (Maybe no french fries– unhealthy!) I will write to their home office, praise them for their good Christian values– and see if they might have plans to market a yummy “Vegan Chicken” sandwich, for future menus– McDonald’s, Burger King, and other fast food places, are all doing that!
For lunch, I made a mock “chicken” salad sandwich– delicious! I bet Chick-fil-A could do that, too– and their marketing dept. could give it a cute name!
There’s nothing wrong with eating animal meat.
And there is also nothing wrong from refraining from eating beloved animals! I have a lovely plaque in my kitchen, with Dr. Albert Schweitzer’s beautiful “Prayer for the Animals” on it He was a Lutheran doctor and missionary– and animal-loving vegan.
Well– for right now– there is really almost nothing for me, on the Chick-fil-A menu… but I still think it is wonderful, that they stand up publicly, for Christian Marriage! Who else does? Every single restaurant and other place of business in this country, should stand for Traditional Marriage– and wholesome, CHRISTIAN family values! The REAL America!! Safe, wholesome– good enough for kids of all ages!
Great idea. I would buy that on Fridays especially instead of meat or fish.
And the people who are against Chick-fil-A going into Redwood City think they are tolerant people!!!!!!
HOWEVER, they are the MOST INTOLERANT people around!!!!!!
exactly
The “LGBTs” just filed another lawsuit against Christian baker, Jack Phillips, in Lakewood, CO! Horrible! I am careful with sugar and baked goods (unhealthy!) but I will see if he has any mail-order goodies– and order from him regularly– for holidays, and to add his goodies to gifts for special occasions! Good for him, for standing up for Christ!
To paraphrase abortion on demand supporters-government needs to get out of restaurant business, having Chick-Fil-A in our city is between Chick-Fil-A and its customers. Let women (and men) make their own decision about what they put into thier bodies.
San Mateo County:
bastion of Heterophobia !
ugh
and truthaphobia
Redwood City can suck it!!!! I know hundreds of people who want to see a Chick fil a come to the bay area.
Who cares what their beliefs are. People are always thowing the word TOLERANCE around when they don’t have it.
The Chik-fil-A folks must love this sort of thing. Not only do they receive the graces of being persecuted for righteousness’ sake, but they laugh all the way to the bank when they inevitably do open a restaurant as the others being similarly persecuted spend lots and lots of money there.
