The following comes from a Jan. 21 release issued by Californians for Life.
“Thursday, January 22nd, marks the 42nd year of Roe v Wade, which when combined with the Supreme Court decision Doe v Bolton, legalized abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, resulting in over 50 million lives lost and millions of women hurt. Our California legislative focus this year will be to pass parental notification, which would allow parents to be notified when our teenage daughters undergo a life-ending, life-changing medical procedure such as abortion”, said Wynette Sills, director of Californians for Life, a coalition of pro-life voters throughout the state. The public is invited to participate in the Advocacy Day at the Capitol on Thursday, January 22nd, with 9:30 registration in Room 447 of the Capitol, 10:00 am training workshop, and legislative office visits from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
“Each year, over 16,000 girls less than 18 years of age undergo an abortion here in California. Teen girls are not allowed to be given an aspirin at school, get a flu shot, have a cavity filled, enter a tanning booth, or go on a school field trip without parental involvement, yet they are left all alone to undergo life-changing, life-ending abortion procedures. 39 states outlined here in blue, already have parental involvement laws in place to protect teen age girls”, according to Sills, as their organization, Californians for Life, will be asking each state assembly member and state senator to sign on as co-author to this “reasonable, common sense legislation”.
According to the Public Policy Institute of California, a majority (68%) of Californians favor parents to be notified before a girl under 18 can get an abortion, with majorities across party lines. 55% of Democrats, 66% independents, and 77% of Republicans support parental notification. Latinos are the most likely group to support Parental Notification, with 81% approval. 70% of the California Asian community, 68% of blacks, and 58% of whites support Parental Notification. “California demographics have changed since the last vote on parental notification in 2008, when over 6.2 million people (48%) voted in favor of Parental Notification, despite the multi-million dollar ad campaign by the abortion industry to oppose parental involvement in teen abortions” said Sills.
At least half of the California teen pregnancies are fathered by adult males 20 years or older. Secret abortions enable the sexual exploitation of young girls, including girls who are enslaved by sex traffickers. Sexual predators destroy the evidence of their criminal behavior through secret abortions. This Constitutional Amendment will deter dangerous, devastating exploitation of young girls.
Parental notification will give parents an opportunity to provide post-abortion care, especially for serious, even life-threatening, physical, emotional, or psychological complications which may result from abortion. Parent involvement is even more important now that midwives, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, who aren’t medical doctors, are allowed to perform abortions. “For the sake of our daughters, parents need to be notified before any medical procedure is performed on a minor child. Parents, not the abortion business, have the best interest of our daughters at heart” explained Sills.
We applaud Californians For Life and their leadership under a dynamic Catholic,
Wynette Sills.
If we are ever to stop the killing of unborn babies, policies must be changed—and that means politicians must change and start voting prolife.
If you are pro-life, you are obligated to know where candidates stand before you vote. EVERY elected Democrat is now strongly pro-abortion. They are now the Party of Death and violence.
The California Democratic Party Platform for 2014 promotes as their goals:
Abortion;
Euthanasia (Death with dignity);
Sex change operations with hormones and accompanying care for life;
Contraception;
Homosexual marriage;
Embryonic Stem Cell research.
Finally, we have a statewide organization that wants to make change—not just keep the status quo with counseling and ineffective marches.
For Catholic Citizens:
All Catholic Citizens are required to Vote (CCC 2240).
Those who vote for pro-abortion and pro-euthanasia politicians may NOT receive Holy Communion.
(There is no proportionate reason in the USA today, to the murder of approx. 1 MILLION innocent human beings each year through abortion.)

Again, you are completely misreading those documents. Benedict specifically wrote in his NB that voters may vote for politicians who hold and vote those views, provided they do not vote for them BECAUSE of those views.
YFC and providing there is a proportionate reason. And while it can be permitted, it is not desirable. Again, there would have to be a serious reason.
[N.B. A Catholic would be guilty of formal cooperation in evil, and so unworthy to present himself for Holy Communion, if he were to deliberately vote for a candidate precisely because of the candidate’s permissive stand on abortion and/or euthanasia. When a Catholic does not share a candidate’s stand in favour of abortion and/or euthanasia, but votes for that candidate for other reasons, it is considered remote material cooperation, which can be permitted in the presence of proportionate reasons.]
Cardinal Ratzinger
YFC, you are being dishonest. You may NOT vote for any politician who supports abortion or euthanasia without PROPORTIONATE reasons.
There is nothing in the USA today that is proportionate to the torture and murder of approx. 1 MILLION innocent human beings through abortion each year.
Read this again, and retract your statement.

Clearly, Sandy, some people including possibly the Cardinal who wrote those things did so because he thought there were proportionate reasons. He wasn’t writing in the abstract, but in a very concrete way about the way people may vote. You are completely mistreprenting his writing if you simply say that Catholics may never vote for a politician who supports the right to an abortion. Please be honest in your postings.
Are you just trying to be contentious or are you so misinformed as to believe what you write?
“Regarding the grave sin of abortion or euthanasia, when a person’s formal cooperation becomes manifest (understood, in the case of a Catholic politician, as his consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws), his Pastor should meet with him, instructing him about the Church’s teaching, informing him that he is not to present himself for Holy Communion until he brings to an end the objective situation of sin, and warning him that he will otherwise be denied the Eucharist.”
There are NO proportionate reasons in the USA – TODAY – to the torture and murder of approx. 1 MILLION innocent human beings each year through Abortion.
Sandy is correct – regarding voting in the USA – at this time in history. One may not vote for someone who supports Abortion or Euthanasia.
For those who may not know, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger wrote:
“Worthiness to Receive Holy Communion, General Principles” when he was PREFECT for the CONGREGATION of the DOCTRINE of the FAITH in 2004.
As we all know, he later became Pope Benedict XVI.

One may NOT VOTE for any politician who supports Abortion or Euthanasia.
If both choices of candidates support abortion or euthanasia – Catholics must strive to put in place candidates, laws, and political programs that are in full accord with non-negotiable moral values. Where a perfect candidate, law, or program is not on the table, we are to choose the best option, the one that promotes the greatest good and entails the least evil.
NON-NEGOTIABLES: These current issues concern actions that are intrinsically evil
and must never be promoted by the law.
Intrinsically evil actions are those that fundamentally conflict with the moral law and can never be deliberately performed under any circumstances.
It is a serious sin to deliberately endorse or promote any of these actions, and no candidate who really wants to advance the common good will support any action contrary to the non-negotiable principles involved in these issues.
Effectively EDUCATING Politicians requires brief handouts to leave with them.

I wrote to my Congressman, as many did, to vote on stopping elective abortions after 20 weeks but the GOP caved.

60% of Americans oppose late term abortions, the GOP has a majority and still they cave. What more can we do??
Thanks to the political pressure brought about by between 500,000 and 650,000 marchers in Washington DC today., consistently pro-life Representative Chris Smith was able to get the following passed after the first bill failed.
The bill hat passed will STOP all taxpayer funding for ABORTION.
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/jan/22/house-votes-ban-taxpayer-funded-abortions/
“ The House voted Thursday to cement a ban on taxpayer funding for abortion through Obamacare or in other cases, a turnaround bid to save face after Republican leaders were forced to pull a groundbreaking bill that would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
The 242-to-179 vote reopened the fight over Obamacare and whether it subsidizes abortions, despite President Obama’s promises that it would not. ”

There was 1 Republican and 178 Democrats who were evil in their votes.

Not only do they want us to have taxpayer funded abortion, but want to take away our religious freedom by forcing us to pay for evil through our taxes.

Sandra, again, you say “We may NOT VOTE for anyone who supports Abortion and/or euthanasia, and still receive Holy Communion.” which is a COMPLETE MISQUOTE of the citation you provide. Indeed, Catholics MAY vote for those who support abortion and/or euthenasia and still receive Holy Communion, SO LONG AS THEY DO NOT VOTE BECAUSE OF THAT SUPPORT. Please do not misquote your sources. This is disingenuous at best.
When it comes to voting for candidates for political offices– I have always done it in a very simple and practical way. I DO NOT VOTE for any candidate, who is immoral! PERIOD!! That includes candidates living an immoral life, or believing in supporting immorality of any kind at all! NO COMPROMISE, in the voting booth! If all of the candidates are immoral– then, I DO NOT VOTE AT ALL! I LEAVE MY BALLOT BLANK, AND CAST IT ANYWAY— and I make a big complaint! I DO THIS ALL THE TIME!! I tell the people in charge of elections, and tell the leaders of the political parties, that they have NO MORALLY-ACCEPTABLE CANDIDATES!! And thus– they are RUINING OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES, and RUINING THE WHOLE NATION!! Next, I remind them, that such evils as ABORTION, SAME-SEX “MARRIAGE,” PRE-MARITAL SEX, PORNOGRAPHY, EUTHANASIA, EMBRYONIC STEM-CELL RESEARCH, ADULTERY, DRUGS (including MARIJUANA), and a great many other evils– are MORALLY UNACCEPTABLE!! Our country is in DESPERATE NEED of GOOD, MATURE ADULT POLITICAL LEADERS!!
I will add one more thing to my above post. This is a very simple truth. A good American citizen is a person with good moral training, who lives a good life, and is a good and trustworthy neighbor, in their community! This should be taught, in all American schools! A good American leader must have good morals, be honest and trustworthy, and serve a higher purpose, for the optimal good of society– and be accountable to God! Otherwise– our Nation will ultimately fail!
