A group of abortion-rights activists is working to enshrine the right to abortion in the Arizona Constitution, hoping to get the measure on the state’s ballot ahead of the 2024 elections.
The political action committee Arizona for Abortion Access on Tuesday filed the Arizona Abortion Access Act, a “proposed constitutional amendment that will enshrine the fundamental right to abortion in the Arizona Constitution for generations to come,” the group said in a press release.
The group claimed that Arizona’s current 15-week ban constitutes “a significant barrier between patients and essential care,” one that allegedly “deprives pregnant [women] of their liberty and autonomy to make choices about their own health care.”
The proposed amendment, a copy of which was obtained by Catholic News Agency, would forbid any abortion regulations from being imposed prior to “fetal viability,” or the ability of the unborn child to survive outside of its mother’s womb. At current levels of technology and health care, viability is usually at about 22-24 weeks.
Among the groups supporting the effort are Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona, NARAL Arizona, and Healthcare Rising Arizona….

This is democracy in action. The majority can vote into law whatever it wants. Whether it’s good or right isn’t the point. It’s majority rule.
There are checks and balances.
A government of the people, by the people and for the people is only as good as its people.
Abortion of the unborn is outright killing. Repent Arizona before it’s too late!
They don’t care. Look who they elected as governor: someone who refused to debate her opponent. Arizona is a blue state now. They’ll elect Anyone (D) on the ballot. Good thing is that they’ll get their comeuppance when the state runs out of water. Buying property in Arizona is for fools now. Think ahead to 20 years from now when the water runs thin. The Arizona desert is unlivable without water piped in from the Colorado River.
Isn’t “abortion of the unborn” a redundant expression? Abortion is killing someone who is unborn. You can’t abort someone who has been born. So there’s no need to say “abortion of the unborn.” Maybe some parents wish there were retroactive abortions, but that’s not possible.
It’s possible, but it’s called “murder”.
