The following comes from an April 15 posting from Vatican Radio
Below we publish a communique issued Monday by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith concerning a meeting with the Presidency of the Leadership Conference of the Women Religious in the USA.
Today the Superiors of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith met with the Presidency of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) in the United States of America. Most Rev. J. Peter Sartain, Archbishop of Seattle and the Holy See’s Delegate for the Doctrinal Assessment of the LCWR, also participated in the meeting.
As this was his first opportunity to meet with the Presidency of the LCWR, the Prefect of
the Congregation, Most Rev. Gerhard Ludwig Müller, expressed his gratitude for the great contribution of women Religious to the Church in the United States as seen particularly in the many schools, hospitals, and institutions of support for the poor which have been founded and staffed by Religious over the years.
The Prefect then highlighted the teaching of the Second Vatican Council regarding the
important mission of Religious to promote a vision of ecclesial communion founded on faith in Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Church as faithfully taught through the ages under the guidance of the Magisterium (Cf. Lumen gentium, nn. 43-47). He also emphasized that a Conference of Major Superiors, such as the LCWR, exists in order to promote common efforts among its member Institutes as well as cooperation with the local Conference of Bishops and with individual Bishops. For this reason, such Conferences are constituted by and remain under the direction of the Holy See (Cf. Code of Canon Law, cann. 708-709).
Finally, Archbishop Müller informed the Presidency that he had recently discussed the
Doctrinal Assessment with Pope Francis, who reaffirmed the findings of the Assessment and the program of reform for this Conference of Major Superiors.
It is the sincere desire of the Holy See that this meeting may help to promote the integral witness of women Religious, based on a firm foundation of faith and Christian love, so as to preserve and strengthen it for the enrichment of the Church and society for generations to come.

To put this in perspective, it would be good to remember that the Vatican has investigated many groups that needed…well…investigating. Not just women’s groups.
For example, the Holy See examined American seminaries some time back. The Vatican also looked closely into what the Legionaries of Christ were doing, after certain issues came to light. The Society of St. Pius X is still undergoing scrutiny for its own errors — as is Dignity, the homosexual group in Catholicism.
Rather than accusing Rome, or the Holy Father himself, of being “anti-woman” or any such thing, we should realize it is an essential part of his ministry to try to keep us on track, in communion with the WHOLE Church, not just our own peculiar neighborhood.
Sometimes we get a bit crazy, thinking that the American way is the only way, and need to come back to our senses. Sometimes we get carried away by the latest fad and demand that the Church ordain women, and need to be reminded this has never been our practice, even as using leavened bread has not been. Sometimes we get stuck in our traditions with a small “t” like the Pharisees and need to listen to the Magisterium and grow up.
Michael,
Not all Churches of “The One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church” use unleavened bread!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Stay the course Holy Father!
This group of radical feminist ‘sisters’ need to be reigned in!!!
The LCWR “Gong Show”
“THE B-MOVIE CATECHISM Sunday, August 19, 2012 Outtakes”
The fall from grace of so many orders occurred as a consequence of the “liberal” interpretation of the decrees emanating from the second Vatican council. It gave the green light to many who felt stifled by the ancient traditions. The first sign was the abandoning of traditional habits and a sharp drop in vocations. Nuns active in charitable work gradually came to regard themselves as social workers. Increasing government support for their work inevitably led to their adopting liberal political attitudes. The embrace of Obamacare by the Catholic Hospital Association is a perfect case in point. I shall never forget Sister Carol Kane proudly accepting the pen with which Obama signed the document that now mandates that Catholic organizations abide by immoral rules and regulations. It will be difficult to rectify what should not have been allowed in the first place.
People cannot be programmed to believe in Catholicism.
Any organization that calls itself ‘Catholic’ must adhere to the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition” in entirety.
All Orders of Catholic Nuns should immediately withdraw from the LCWR (Leadership of Catholic Women Religious), and NETWORK (Nuns who opposed the Bishops regarding the evils in Obamacare such as taxpayer dollars paying for abortions, contraception, euthanasia, against freedom of religion, etc.)
It is not the job of Nuns (or Priests) to be involved in politics, or to define the Catholic Faith as they personally see fit.
If they do not like the Faith and repent – which would include publically fixing their scandals , then they should leave. Heretics and schismatics are not wanted or needed.
It would be a good service if the names of the Nuns and their Orders who belong to the LCWR and NETWORK were posted for all to see. We must be able to know the wolves in sheep’s clothing.
The Church did better for centuries without the Catechism than it does now with the Catechism.
Baloney. The Church for centuries has had “The Catechism of the Council of Trent” (still for sale on Amazon) (published in America as “The Baltimore Catechism”), and now has “The Catechism of the Catholic Church” , which was called for by Vatican II.
Mr. Juergensen, thank you.
Skai, there have been only two Catechisms of the Catholic Church in its 2000 year history.
The first is the Catechism of the Council of Trent (1566 AD), and the current 20 year old “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition”.
Our Church Fathers who have promulgated these know better than you, and understand the needs of the Faithful.
Several times you have made disparaging comments about the CCC that allow us all to know the truth accurately. This is critically needed since most of us do not get the catechesis needed for accurate adherence to the Faith. I’m disappointed in your heretical and schismatic posts.
It is clear you have never read the “CCC 2nd ed”.
Any woman who is contemplating the wonderful and holy vocation of becoming a Bride of Jesus (Nun), then she should make certain the Order or leadership that she joins is NOT a member of the LCWR or Network.
She should also make certain that the Order requires the adherence to the ‘Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition’, and that all members are required to know its content.
One can not pass on the Faith, when they do not accurately know the Faith.
Just shut down this Nun alternate magesterium. Let the sisters go back to their respective religious orders.
Is the “second edition” the last edition?
Yes.
In the USA the “CATECHISM of the CATHOLIC CHURCH, Second Edition” has a green cover.
On the cover it also states: “revised in accordance with the official Latin text promulgated by Pope John Paul II”.
The “CCC 2nd ed’ is available on line at most Catholic catalogue stores.

Whenever I view nuns/sisters in the community wearing street clothes, I am saddened. Why are these religious not wearing their religious habit? Years ago, it was unheard of for sisters, brothers and priests to be seen in the community, without wearing their habit, roman collar…and for most nuns, a “full whipple”! Recently I was with family who were in from Europe, and we visited the Long beach aquarium…I saw a group of nuns from a religious community , “ALL WEARING THEIR HABIT”! Wunderbar! I approached one of the sisters, who was from Latin America and told her how appreciative I was to see these pious religious in the community, serving as a witness to the world, that they are Catholic and sisters, who are living a counter-cultural, and contemplative life. This should be the norm…not an occasional, yet wonderful surprise…
